25.01.2022 We are loving our Teletherapy sessions! We have been working online with children all over Melbourne this week in an attempt to flatten the curve. Our clever OT Betty is teaching parents how to make their own iPad stylus using a Qtip- simply dip the end in water and VOILA, youre ready to go! Note: we wrap the stick in foil and mould into a triangle to encourage a tripod grasp

25.01.2022 Autism Awareness month! I only recently discovered that Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenager leading the current climate change movement, is Autistic. Amazing girl. Amazing brain. Go Greta!

24.01.2022 Sesame Street have just introduced a new character, Julia, who has ASD! What a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn that we are all different, interesting and unique.

20.01.2022 Just in case anyone needed reminding...

20.01.2022 Does your child/ student struggle with their pencil grip? Never throw away broken crayons! Colouring in/ drawing with tiny pieces of crayon or chalk will help to build the important handwriting muscles inside your childs hand... with these they have no choice but to use their index finger and thumb. Remember- kids hold their pencil awkwardly because of the way their muscles have developed... in little ones you can change this with the right activities and practice!

20.01.2022 Anyone tried making their own paint? Now seems like the perfect time to experiment! I see a fun weekend of finger painting coming on

20.01.2022 The rubber band pencil grip trick! One of the simplest pencil grip strategies for students who struggle to rest the pencil in their webspace. This Immediately promotes active movements of the fingers and works to build fine motor control. You dont need to be an O.T to try things like this with your students, give it a go!

19.01.2022 Mat Man- such a great way to teach body awareness and spatial/ perceptual skills to young kids! Every ELC would benefit from purchasing or making some Mat Man resources as part of their teaching tool kit. FYI Australian suppliers available! https://www.lwtears.com/resources/mat-man-world

19.01.2022 Have an anxious child starting or heading back to school? Summer holidays can feel like a loooong time for little people...this long weekend head down to your school and have some fun! Play on the playground, find the water bubblers and toilets, have a wonder around and get familiar/ reacquainted with the grounds. Make it a positive experience and keep the mood fun and relaxed. If you have kids who benefit from visual cues, take some photos so that you can add to them to yo...ur visual schedule. Youll be amazed how much some preparation can help to ease worried little minds and calm behaviours. Good luck!

19.01.2022 How good are these LEGO hacks! Particularly love the one under the table- great for building shoulder strength and fine motor control

Thanks to technology, we can now "visit" homes and schools across Australia and provide high quality therapy to kids who would otherwise miss out. Send us a message or email [email protected] for more info. And please share this to anyone you think may benefit from our services.

09.01.2022 Anxious child? Try a Fitbit! Wearing a Fitbit will monitor your childs heart rate throughout the day, helping to identify when/if they are feeling anxious as shown by increased heart rate. It can also be used to help kids focus on their breathing in periods of acute anxiety, by breathing slowly to make the numbers go down. Would love to hear from people who have tried this out!

05.01.2022 This is a great visual reminder of how anger is a product of many raw feelings, and can be super hard for kids to make sense of and express. Remember to always look below the iceberg!
