25.01.2022 The kids and I finished listening to Wonder on audiobook. Aside from getting teary-eyed too many times to count, I highly recommend it. My kids are 9 and 6 and they loved it. Each character was narrated in a different voice. It made the movie afterwards so much better as well. What’s a good book or audiobook you’ve read as a family?

11.01.2022 Is screen time going through the roof right now? If you’re looking for a way to decrease the amount of time the kids are spending on screens, but still be able to grab an hour of peace to get stuff done, then here’s your answer. As a mother of three and literacy expert, I’ve put together these 5 activities that will guarantee at least one hour of peace for each activity.... As an added bonus, the best part of this free download is that they will actually be improving their literacy skills along the way! But don’t tell them. It’s our secret ;) Download your free activity pack here: https://mailchi.mp/3e4c1cd3e470/one-hour-of-peace

10.01.2022 Imagine if your child could develop a lifelong love of reading and writing? And all it took was spending 30 minutes in a fun and relaxed way each week? Sound good? Hi, I'm Dr. Alison Greenland, the founder of Leap into Literacy. Leap into Literacy is a PhD designed program that helps students ages 5-12 become engaged in reading and writing through fun and creative techniques. Classes are fun, which means that students are more engaged and more motivated. As a result, they ar...e more likely to retain the information for life. Incredible, right? You may already be familiar with our popular classroom workshops. However, we have decided to bring these to you online! This means that students can access them whenever and wherever it's convenient for them. Now, no matter where you are in the world, we'd like to offer you a free trial class to see if Leap into Literacy is a good fit for you and your child. Just visit our website at www.leapintoliteracy.com for more information.

09.01.2022 This is an Essential Kids article from back in April in which I was interviewed in regards to spelling mistakes from teachers. Have you had this happen and if so, what did you do?

09.01.2022 I was contacted by a lovely producer at Endemol Shine who asked if I could help spread the word. Please contact me or Prue on 0401 086 384 if you are interested or know anyone who may be. I’m working on a documentary for SBS around adult literacy problems. With 42% of Australians falling below standard literacy levels, we’re hoping to shine a spotlight on this issue and change the stigma surrounding it. Low literacy levels aren’t a sign of a lack of intelligence it’s a sign... of someone who has missed out on their basic human right of receiving the right education, something everyone deserves. So, we want to set up school for 9 weeks with teachers who specialise in this area, to teach people who may be interested in improving and developing their reading and writing. The school is filmed and it will air in the 3 part documentary. The focus won’t be on skill levels, it will be about people reaching their own individual goal. It could be someone who may want to be able to read a book to their child or someone who wants to improve these skills to get a driver’s license so they can get a job, everyone’s goal will be their own.

08.01.2022 Last month, Australian Tutoring Association wrote this press release regarding Naplan 2020. As a member of ATA, I wanted to share the document with you in case you are interested in reading it. As a parent or educator, what are your thoughts? NAPLAN for all in 2021, education experts say. "Evidence is required to inform decision-making especially when it comes to our children’s future. Given the disruption to regular schooling this year, there has never been a greater...Continue reading

03.01.2022 October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, which is a global movement that shines a light on students who struggle to read, write and spell. This month, Leap into Literacy will acknowledge those children and adults who have dyslexia, as well as their families. We will also recognise the support that teachers and tutors provide to the many children who have dyslexia. We will be sharing everything that we can on social media as part of October's Dyslexia Awareness. Please feel free to tag us as well.
