10.01.2022 Playing with sounds! Here is an activity you can use to develop reading and spelling skills. Draw a word in any play/messy material (rice, water, sprinkles, Lego, playdoh, paint), and say the sounds when writing it instead of letter names.... DID YOU KNOW? Letter names do not help us sound out words. Letters are symbols that represent sounds. Saying the sounds helps us to develop confident reading skills which are useful when we come across an unfamiliar word. For example, some may write the letter ‘u’, when asked to write the word ‘you’ if they only learn the letter names. By drawing the words in different textures and materials, you are also helping with learning through making the activity fun, play, and sensory based.

10.01.2022 Easter Bingo Activity Pronouns. Using pronouns like he, she and they (sing./plural) can be tricky for our little ones to get the hang of, but learning pronouns are just as important as other types of words. What better way to learn them than to do an easter themed activity and maybe have a few easter choccies afterwards.... This is a short and simple activity you can do at home: 1. Print out bingo sheet and give to the person playing 2. Read a sentence a) She has an easter egg b) He has an easter egg c) They have an easter egg 3. They then have to listen carefully and cross of a picture that relates to the sentence you have read 4. Once the whole page is crossed off time to get some chocolates in your belly. Then you can say I have an easter egg Remember, everyone has their own pronouns and it's essential to respect and use each person's pronouns correctly. They may share this with you, or if you are unsure you can always respectfully ask.
