25.01.2022 Beautiful Rin come for a session to help with some reactivity to people. We had a really good session with progress. Rin is wearing a jacket that clearly says I need space, but it’s important to remember never to approach any dog without asking the owner first. Dogs when on lead can feel very vulnerable as their is no escape route for them, this can add to their fear. ... Unfortunately some people allow their dogs to race up and approach other dogs on lead. You should never allow your off lead to approach an onlead dog and you shouldn’t when out walking allow your on lead dog to just go up and greet dogs on lead unless you ask permission . It can be confronting for dogs to be rushed at on and off lead by another dog. Humans often outstretch their hand to a dog to sniff, this habit although widely practiced can also be confronting for a nervous dog and should not be done. Nervous dogs find sudden movement scary and an out stretched hand suddenly coming towards a nervous dog can be a target to be bitten. As humans if a stranger comes too close we automatically move away and if they invade our personal space bubble we feel uncomfortable but a dog on lead can’t move away but people constantly come in close and lean into a dogs face on lead and think that’s okay. Anxious dogs often display reactive behaviour to communicate that they are scared. Always ask before you pet a dog. Always ask before you allow your dog to approach another dog. Be respectful and responsible.

13.01.2022 It’s great to teach dogs to sit calmly or lay calmly on a mat. Many greyhounds find sitting uncomfortable so for Scarpa a lay down is encouraged.

13.01.2022 Alfie a gorgeous boy who can display a little lead reactivity around other dogs. We had a fantastic session with Alfie using my Alfie. Our session worked on calm, lead walking, recall and how to work with Alfie’s reactivity and to counter condition his response . It was a great session .

Special thanks to Clover who handled him beautifully to gain his first place in masters jumping and his title. Many of my clients have met my flying fluff ball before . 07.01.2022 Gorgeous Astra come to Leaps & Bounds today to work on building motivation in to her training. Astra’s mum Jessica hopes to do agility and other performance sports with her dog. They are already doing great with the basics. We keep training sessions short. We make it fun. We play games, we use game play to build value for us , motivation and self control. We work on building toy drive. Rewards can be anything your dog finds exciting and rewarding.

06.01.2022 Smile and the whole world smiles . Meet Rosie who gets a tad excited and likes to jump and nip. Rosie also missed out on that critical socialisation and can be anxious around new and different things. Rosie has recently been adopted by a new family and pardon the pun but they wanted to nip some of her challenging behaviours in the bud. Rosie is a sweet girl and I’m sure she will learn fast.

05.01.2022 Archie, such a handsome boy . He had been a little reactive around other dogs and moving objects but we are seeing progress .

05.01.2022 Aster, breed unknown but my guess is a staffy x koolie . Definitely has the herding traits . Aster was adopted from a rescue organisation and is such a beautiful girl.
