24.01.2022 We are often asked, why choose PRACE? With a new course starting soon, we asked one of our Certificate III in Education Support teachers, Steve, to share his thoughts on what makes the PRACE experience unique. "It's a very supportive environment, PRACE really understands its students and treats everyone as an individual. 23.01.2022 What an incredible day Victoria has recorded no new cases of COVID-19 and ZERO active cases! That's our first day of ! Victorians have worked together to make this happen. But, it's been tough and challenging on so many levels. At Prace we have missed seeing all our students in class, missed our community groups and volunteers. We have missed running into friends in the corridors, making coffee together in the kitchen and connecting with other organisations to bring ne...w projects to life, in real life! Thank you to everyone for playing their part! We hope you all take the time for a little celebration today :)

16.01.2022 Returning to study as an adult can be daunting. Today we share Tania’s thoughts on studying at PRACE. Tania came to PRACE in late 2019 to study the Certificate III in Education Support. Like many adult learners returning to the classroom, Tania was a little apprehensive and as she had not studied for many years. From the beginning you are made to feel comfortable and like an important contributing member of the community. This course is a great experience to know yourself a...nd learn. I enjoyed learning together with other students and found the classes extremely valuable with information obtained through group discussion explains Tania. The PRACE classroom is designed to be a supportive and inclusive environment. Tania credits the feedback and support from her teacher for giving her the confidence she needed to work through challenges during the course. They gave me more confidence each time to move forward and move myself out of my comfort zone to achieve the results I wanted. I would recommend anyone wanting to work in Education Support to attend PRACE. The team involved are friendly and supportive - they are ready to assist you in reaching your goals.

14.01.2022 Become a Teacher’s Aide and help kids reach their full potential! Enrol today in the Certificate III in Education Support and gain the skills and knowledge required to provide support in a range of education settings, including specialist schools like Jacana School for Autism (JSA). The Prace team maintain strong industry connections and presentations from professionals in the field provide invaluable insights for our students. Here’s what our class had to say when our class ...met Daniel Maloney from JSA. Daniel clearly explained the main responsibilities and challenges an education support member has to take up when working in a special school, giving us lots of examples and opportunities to ask questions which made the session enjoyable and very useful. We were provided with valuable information that covered plenty of key topics that will help with our assessments and future work-placement. It gave me a great insight on what it would be like to work in a special needs school. Daniel has expressed how rewarding it is supporting Autistic students as well as being open minded and to be able to see life through their lenses. Daniel provided a further and deeper understanding of how their school runs, and the benefits of working with those students both in giving and receiving. Education Support graduates are in demand and there is no better time to start! Call 9462 6077 to book your enrolment interview and start in February 2021! 12.01.2022 Time has become a little fluid here in Melbourne. But one thing is set in stone, Term 4 starts on Monday! We can't wait to see you all back in the "classroom"!

12.01.2022 Today we’d like to introduce you to PRACE graduate and volunteer, Kaniciura! Kani completed an Introduction to Bookkeeping and MYOB course at PRACE in 2019. During her studies she was referred to our Career Planning and Pathway Program where she gained practical skills and career mentoring. I found the Cover Letter Workshop very useful because I had a lot of doubt about how to start and finish a cover letter. I also learnt to tailor cover letters to the criteria in the job a...d every time I applied explains Kani. During her time in the Career Planning and Pathway Program, Kani volunteered as an administrative assistant at PRACE - adding new skills to her resume. She has since found employment with a not-for-profit organisation working in their Digital Technology Department. Kani came to Australia from Sri Lanka with her husband and children in 2010. On arrival in Melbourne, she spent the first four years looking after her young children. In 2015, she completed her Certificate IV in English as an Additional Language followed by a Certificate in Laboratory Techniques and a Certificate III in Business Administration. She completed a number of student placements and volunteered in organisations aligned with her employment goals. We are proud of Kani’s determination and commitment to her learning journey. We wish her all the best in her new role! - The Career Planning and Pathway Program is funded by a Melbourne Airport Community Grant.

09.01.2022 During term 4, the Work Directions and Focus on Employment learners have been working with the team at the RMIT University Skills and Jobs Centre. RMIT Skills and Jobs Centre provide up-to-date guidance and advice on the current job market. The workshops they provide, complement and enhance the skills and tools our learners are building during their courses. Nicole Shuler from RMIT has presented virtually to the classes and so far, she has provided practical and encouraging ...tips on; writing winning job applications, approaching employers with confidence and strategies for adapting to a changing job market. Nicole’s knowledge and research coincides with what the participants are learning in class and therefore she reinforces class learning and provides insight into how they can further apply these tools when they are working on a job application. Participants from the Work Directions course have recently finished working on their interview role plays. So, at the end of the term 4, the learners will attend an additional workshop with RMIT to extend and reiterate their knowledge of face to face and virtual interviews. We look forward to hearing how they go!

09.01.2022 Last week our Focus on Employment participants received a virtual visit from Migrant Workers Centre representative, Wallace Huang! Wallace gave a comprehensive and engaging presentation about minimum wage, entitlements, casual work rights, and how to handle bullying in the workplace. Ensuring our students are informed about Australian Work Rights. A huge thank you to Wallace who graciously took the time to answer all our questions!

04.01.2022 Tomorrow is World Homeless Day. #WorldHomelessDay aims to draw attention to #homeless people's needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness in their local community. If you are able to help make an impact, we urge you to seek out local opportunities or join us in supporting Backpack Bed for Homeless, Australia, an organisation PRACE has worked with over a number of years. Based in Melbourne, Backpack Bed For Homeless revolutionised the question of what to do when homeless have no shelter - the Backpack Bed gives dignity to homeless people without shelter backpackbed.org

03.01.2022 While our physical doors are currently closed, we're still welcoming loads of special guests into our virtual classrooms. Recently, Kelli Williams from Metro Trains Melbourne dropped in to share information on public transport with our English language students. Using Public Transport is an integral part of living in Australia and therefore, an important part of the EAL curriculum. Integrating our curriculum with a "visit" from Metro Trains created a dynamic opportunity for our students to practice their language skills and build confidence. Kelli was able to answer student questions about using myki, concession entitlements and planning journeys on Melbourne’s public transport.
