23.01.2022 There may be a decline in people studying traditional courses at Unis & TAFE's; but there is also a boom in people studying microcredentials. The microcredential phenomenon may simply an adjustment in the education industry. People really are not studying less, they are just studying differently - more short courses, more often rather than degrees or diplomas only at the start of a career. https://vimeo.com/369478285

18.01.2022 Is learning less sustainable today? There's been a trend for years to shorter courses. Shorter courses enable information to enter shorter term memory, long enough to pass an exam: but to sustain learning for years in long term memory, you need repetition and reinforcement. In this context, learning today may be becoming less sustainable. A short course can work if narrowly focussed, with repetition & reinforcement built in; but let's stop tricking ourselves to thinking a 40 hour course can teach us as much as a 400 hour course. https://vimeo.com/showcase/5862622/video/357964833
18.01.2022 We are all heartbroken to see so much devastation and destruction to homes, lives, wildlife and land with the bushfires around Australia. The sheer ferocity and size of the fires are terrifying. We have many staff around Australia and are fortunate that none have been directly affected by the fires. 16.01.2022 Learn how to identify birds: Lovebirds are small, solid birds with a rounded tail and small, but strong, beak. They exhibit a large variety of colourful mutations resulting from years of selective breeding. Popular types of Lovebirds kept as pets are the Fischer’s Lovebird, the Masked Lovebird and the Peach-Faced Lovebird. They are spirited, energetic, curious and witty, making them a happy cheerful, bird they are not big talkers but can emit a loud, piercing scream if the...y want to. They love to snuggle and will happily tuck up in a small, cosy place such as your pocket. They can be great companions if given enough human attention and kept singly if kept with other birds they will bond with each other instead. They are much easier to tame if done so from a young age. Generally, the greater amount of black colouration on the beak, the younger the bird is, with the black colouration usually gone by the time they reach 4 months old. To raise a family-friendly Lovebird they will need to be hand fed and socialised from a young age. Lovebirds usually live until around 8 to 14 years, with well looked-after ones able to reach their 20’s. See more

07.01.2022 Where does the education dollar come from and go to? How have things changed? In the 1980's most of my colleagues talked about (give or take) spending mostly on developing and delivering courses -perhaps 10% marketing, 10% profit, 10-20% admin (incl. compliance). Today I hear stories of agents being paid up to 50% to sell courses; 30+% on marketing, compliance costs of up to 50% sometimes. Is it any wonder we see colleges and unis under stress? We left the accreditation syste...m, don't use agents, and minimise marketing - which leaves us more to develop and deliver student resources. LearnHowTo is a result of that policy. What's more important - compliance and marketing or delivering learning opportunities? Clearly the balance has shifted.
