25.01.2022 Have you noticed that your child has difficulty sitting still in a chair? Learning Connections understands that moving and fidgeting isnt simply boredom this kind of behaviour often occurs because children need sensory input to wake up their brains, or because of developmental delays in the sensory system. Our online parent module will provide many helpful tips for parents to help them understand the underlying causes behind certain behaviours. We can help you to get the most out of this homeschooling time. #TeachingFromHome #Homeschooling

24.01.2022 If you are hearing "Im bored!" a little more often during #lockdown, dont worry, there is no need to rush to entertain the kids. Here are some things to try instead.

23.01.2022 What your dyslexic child may be thinking when they see b and d as the same letter. No matter where the chair is positioned, it is still a chair!

20.01.2022 Is your child ready for prep next year? Unfortunately being bright does not necessarily mean being ready for school but there are lots of things you and your child can do to help prepare them. According to the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) in Australia:... 21.7 percent of children are developmentally vulnerable in one or more domain/s 11 percent of children are developmentally vulnerable in two or more domains In Queensland the figures are higher 25.9% (1 or more) and 13.9% (2 or more) These AEDC gures are identifying those children with delays in their sensory motor development and who are at risk for learning and behaviour problems. Developmental readiness, addressing any underlying immaturities, creates a smoother passage towards reading and learning. To learn to read and write a child should be able to: pay attention and sit still in a chair for a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes-without needing to wriggle or sit on their feet. be able to balance on one foot, arms outstretched (palms facing up) with both eyes closed for 10 seconds without falling. reproduce a pattern of abstract lines and curves, shapes and geometric forms be able to hop on both legs and skip using alternate legs. If a child is unable to do these tasks easily, important pathways essential for successful learning have not been integrated. 16.01.2022 Primitive reflexes are crucial for an infants survival however, if retained, they can hinder physical and neurological development. For example, if Plantar and Babinksi reflexes are still present beyond their first birthday it is possible a child will have difficulties with balance, coordination and trouble learning in the classroom later on. Luckily, there are many ways to help overcome and integrate these primitive reflexes and to encourage healthy development. https://ilslearningcorner.com/2016-03-plantar-reflex-reaso/

02.01.2022 great article explaining how toe walking is often associated with developmental delay due to a poorly developed vestibular system. We often see some of these symptoms in children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Asperger’s. However, there are several mainstream children that may struggle with toe walking and vestibular issues as well.
