16.01.2022 Happy Valentine's Day from all our children at Step by Step Learning Centre in Arusha, Tanzania! We want to send our love & appreciation to our friends, especially those in China and elsewhere still battling the Covid19 virus. We are so happy to have received a visit from Anna, Ivan & little Irene who came to meet our artisans whose beaded handicraft they have been helping to sell in Guangdong province, southern China. They also brought a beautiful finger-printed paintin...g from the children of Dongguan Nancheng Kindergarten, as well as a generous donation from their friend, Ray Du, which contributed towards partially fixing our damaged access road to the school. Our children can now walk the 300m from where the school bus is forced to stop, up to the school gate, without their feet sinking ankle-deep into the soft, black cotton mud! We continue to raise funds to fix the rest of the road so our bus can drive into the school compound. We are blessed to have such good friends in China, and we welcome further support from all well-wishers! Visit us at www.sslc-tz.com See more

11.01.2022 Hello, Hello, I'm back! It has been a wild and wonderful experience volunteering in Tanzania for a year. "Back to basics" is how I can best summarise the living conditions, and it is a wonder how little one needs to survive. But thank our universal God for our rich blessings in the "advanced world" where we indulge in fresh piped water, electricity, great wifi and abundant supermarket supplies (until the current panic runs!) On this note, before we get back to "business as ...usual" (which could take a little while, given our priority to survive the ravage of COVID19), please take care of yourselves and loved ones. Please also spare a thought for those less privileged than us, such as in Arusha, Tanzania, where the outbreak has just started! An opportunity to support the community of the school where I was serving until last week, Step by Step Learning Center, has arisen. GlobalGiving, a US-based crowd-funding platform, has invited Step by Step to compete for a permanent spot so it can continue to receive support from anyone, anywhere, in the future. To qualify, we will need to raise as much as we can in a 3-week period ending on 25th March 2020. If you have spare change, please donate it on this secure GlobalGiving link: https://www.globalgiving.org/proj/march-2020-accelerator-2/ More news soon, but meanwhile, THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING STEP BY STEP, where I have left my heart (as you would too, if you knew the lovable kids and young adults there!) Cheers, Soo May

04.01.2022 Lilian's Scholarship Fund (my family's charitable fund in memory of my mother, Lilian Lee. Join us on Facebook.) has received a request for urgent help. These beautiful children at Faraja Orphanage Children's Home are at risk at the best of times. In a Covid19 crisis, they are more vulnerable than ever. They just lost a little girl this morning! Please read on and join me in supporting this orphanage through the current crisis! Thank you, Soo

04.01.2022 THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH to those of you who have answered the call to donate on the GlobalGiving crowd-funding site. Your quick and helpful response at this... difficult time is much appreciated, especially when you may also be in communities facing similar Coronavirus challenges! Step by Step has been able to buy some emergency rations to help the school's community of staff, students and families tide over the imminent stay-at-home requirements. There is also a reserve fund now to help the school to move forward in the coming months when the situation improves. Your support has meant so much to us! If you are happy to support Step by Step in any way in the future, please go to its website for news: www.sslc-tz.com. You can also follow its updates on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/StepByStepLearningCentre/ I am pleased to let everyone know that I have now returned to Australia after completing my volunteering with Step by Step. I am keeping safe with my son in Darwin, and hope that you all are, too. I will continue to support Step by Step as much as I can, through my family-based charity, Lilian's Scholarship Fund, which you are all welcome to follow: (https://www.facebook.com/groups/127307204750924/). But I will not be in a position to post further updates about SSLC. Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones, wherever you are, and do keep in touch! Signing off for now, with very, very best regards to all, Soo
