25.01.2022 Great celebration at The Alcott Lane Cove for our student Alex Peters from St Ignatius Riverview, HSC 2020. Despite such a difficult year, Alex achieved a 99+ ATAR, and 96 in English, a substantial lift from earlier in the year. The English paper was challenging as never before, and so congratulations are even more in order. Thank you Simone Launt-Peters for inviting me. ... Proud of you Alex.

21.01.2022 The value of individual attention, encouragement and subsequent academic improvement now formally recognised by the NSW government. A good tutor makes an enormous difference, especially with time lost due to COVID.

18.01.2022 Congratulations MLC.

07.01.2022 Hmmmm.......my pet gripe at the moment is the widespread misuse of less and fewer. Now they’re the same it seems.

05.01.2022 This article examines the incorrect use of the term Orwellian and how George Orwell really opposed the manipulation and minimisation of language as a means of control. Above all, 1984 is an appeal for transparency, clarity of expression and how words, once removed, diminish our power as individuals.

04.01.2022 An interesting discussion on the need to reassess the value of homework in primary school. As parents we all know the stories of helping our children with projects, dioramas, spelling lists and so on. The suggestion here is that homework should begin in Year 5 and not before.

03.01.2022 Next up in our tutor profiles, we have Daniel: Education: BA Dip Ed (Secondary Teaching), MRes (English). Interests/Passions: Playing and watching sport, primarily soccer or Daniel’s favourite sport - American football (NFL). Cooking and sculpting are also interests.... Favourite Works of Literature: ‘Revolutionary Road’ by Richard Yates, ‘Ransom’ by David Malouf and the ‘Harry Potter’ series Teaching style: Having taught English and Modern History in NSW schools for five years, Daniel’s firm belief is that the last thing someone needs when they come to tutoring is to feel that they're just going to another lesson. So, he likes to make his lessons relaxed, fun and engaging Plans for the future: Daniel is very excited to be getting married this year, whilst also hoping to finish his PhD in English and move into the tertiary sector.
