25.01.2022 Welcome to 2016 Savvys! Did anyone here get a new iPad to play with for Christmas? Need help working it out? I was lucky enough to get a new iPad Pro. Its awesome. I just need to get myself a iPencil to go with it.
24.01.2022 R U OK? Sometimes we are asked the question, but dont know how to answer, so we say Yes. If someone is asking you if youre OK, you should assume they care enough to hear the truth. So if you are asked the question, and youre less than OK, speak up! The act of just unburdening yourself of NOT being OK is the first step to healing. So, are you ok?
21.01.2022 What model iPad do you own? My family has a 3 different models - the iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad 2. Have you used 2 different models - what was your preferred one? #iPad

20.01.2022 Good morning Savvys! I have a quick question and would appreciate your input. Q: Would you prefer your iPad training conducted at your home / community centre, or at our offices in Macquarie Park?
20.01.2022 If you've ever wondered what else you can use your iPad for, here are some pretty nifty ideas! http://www.businessinsider.com.au/secret-useful-ipad-tips-a
20.01.2022 The Center for Digital Transformation has written a paper on Seniors and The Internet. Its a very interesting read, and the Abstract has me wondering if this is your take on all things internet for the over 55s. Whats your opinion? Ive copied and pasted the Abstract below, and would love to hear your thoughts. Do you agree with it? To read the full paper, go to http://www.crito.uci.edu//seniors%20and%20the%20internet.p "Seniors and the Internet: Consuming Technology to ...Enhance Life and Family Involvement While seniors are increasingly adopting computers and the Internet, they face unique barriers to usage. Most did not use computers in their workplace before retirement and many have physical limitations that make computers and the internet harder to learn and use. Yet, seniors who do adopt are enthusiastic. We find that these seniors express strong openness to learning, are willing to look foolish and to be slow while they are learning, and strongly desire patient and knowledgeable teachers and mentors. Bricolage or play is important in learning, and they often maintain written lists and instructions to help them remember websites and procedures. Interestingly, the most frequently mentioned reason for adoption was to maintain cultural currency."
20.01.2022 Do you have trouble reading the text on your iOS device? There are many options available to you to help. One of them is Speak Screen, which will read whats on your screen to you. To access this, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech and then turn on Speak Screen. There are a few options you can change to customise it to suit you, e.g. speed of speech.
20.01.2022 Have you got Family Sharing set up on your IOS devices? Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in a family to share each others iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases. Whenever one person buys something, family members get immediate access. Another new feature is Ask to Buy, where parents/grandparents can get notified when children want to buy something from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Storethen choose whether to approve the purchase. ... Its also easier for you to share family photos, a family calendar, locations, and more. For example, a family photo stream is automatically created to share photos, videos, and comments. In Calendar, a family can add events to one shared calendar and set reminders that appear on everyones devices. With the Find My iPhone app, family members can use their devices to locate one thats lost and have it play a sound even if the ringer is turned off. In a nutshell, with Family Sharing you get immediate access to your familys content without having to share Apple IDs or passwords. Ask to Buy gives you confidence that your children wont make unapproved purchases. You can feel reassured by knowing where your family members are with location sharing
19.01.2022 My father, who is in his early 70s, has had his iPad for just over 4 months. Over the last 5 - 6 weeks, he hasnt been able to use it much and is just rediscovering it now. Ive reintroduced him to FaceTime https://www.apple.com/au/ios/facetime/ as well as to iBooks. These were the two apps he used the most and enjoyed the most. What would you say your favourite apps are?

19.01.2022 School holidays are coming up, and we know that that often means that the grandkids come and stay with you for a day or two, which is GREAT! ... but it can also mean that youre sometimes stuck for things to do. If youve got movies on your iPad that you would prefer to have up on the big screen, (or not so big screen, depending on the size of your TV), heres an article on how to connect your iPad to your TV. http://ipad.about.com//How-To-Connect-Your-Ipad-To-Your-Tv

19.01.2022 Wow, its been over a month since SeniorSavvy last posted! Ive been away on a camping trip with family and friends, crossing the Simpson Desert and visiting many historical outback towns along the way. The kids and I kept a photo journal using our iPad and some free journalling apps. It definitely took the burden out of them journalling as they always enjoy the freedom and creativity of using the iPad. How have you used your iPad lately?
18.01.2022 I, for one, love my sleep! Heres a really interesting TED talk about sleep. Its a long watch (around 21 minutes), and really doesnt have much to do with iPads or technology BUT it is interesting, so please enjoy! Maybe grab a cuppa for this one... Russell Foster is a circadian neuroscientist: He studies the sleep cycles of the brain. And he asks: What do we know about sleep? Not a lot, it turns out, for something we do with one-third of our lives. In this talk, Foster shares three popular theories about why we sleep, busts some myths about how much sleep we need at different ages and hints at some bold new uses of sleep as a predictor of mental health. http://www.ted.com/talks/russell_foster_why_do_we_sleep

15.01.2022 Hi Savvys. Its been a while since this page has posted anything. SeniorSavvy has been on a break, and I want to start it afresh. To do that, I want to know what it is YOU would like SeniorSavvy to provide. Providing iPad training is our main thrust, but what would you like to know?? There are a zillion aps out there that you could be benefiting from, a whole world awaits. Is there a particular area / niche that youd like to know how to use better? Maybe its watching Netflix, maybe its photography, social media, games downloads... As Frasier would say, Im listening!
15.01.2022 Is your iPad getting too full? Folders can help you organize your iPad and avoid searching through page after page of apps to find the right one. http://ipad.about.com//How-to-Create-a-Folder-on-the-iPad.
13.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all our SeniorSavvy mums!
11.01.2022 Thanks to #AutomtedHome for this cheat sheet on the latest offerings from Apple. Amazing. http://www.automatedhome.co.uk//our-cheat-sheet-from-apple I just love the new iPad.. a tad expensive but WOW.
10.01.2022 We inherited a baby conure (small parrot) this year, who is apparently a very intelligent and easily trainable bird. Sure enough, theres a few apps to help me train him! https://itunes.apple.com//teach-your-parrot-t/id561524406 is just one. Has anyone had any experience with animal training apps that they use on their ipad?
09.01.2022 Hi Savvys. Sorry I havent been too active on this page of late. What would you like to see more of on the SeniorSavvy FaceBook page?
09.01.2022 A little while ago, a member of the SeniorSavvy site voiced her frustration with listening to music through an app called "Pandora". Pandora is a great app that allows you to listen to music based on a certain style / persuasion of music, but not necessarily from one particular artist. Instead, you type in an artist that you like, and Pandora chooses music from that and other similar musicians. Below is a list of 3 other great apps that you can download and use to listen to y...our music, along with links to their websites that will give you more information about them. The beauty of these apps is that you dont have a large music collection loaded on your iPad and you can create unique radio stations that are customised to the music you love. The iPad has good speakers, but more importantly, it also supports Bluetooth. This makes it a great match with wireless headphones, and with many new television soundbars supporting Bluetooth, the iPad can essentially become your home stereo. 1. iTunes Radio - https://www.apple.com/au/itunes/itunes-radio/ This ones FREE and already installed on your ipad in your default MUSIC app. 2. Shazam - http://www.shazam.com/apps A music discovery app without the streaming music. Instead, Shazam listens to the music around you and identifies it, so if you hear a really cool song while drinking your morning coffee at the local cafe, you can find out the name and artist. 3. TunieIn Radio - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tunein-radio/id418987775 TuneIn Radio has a simple interface that is easy to start using. One nice aspect is the ability to glimpse what is playing on the radio station -- the song title and artist is displayed below the radio station. And TuneIn Radio packs in 70,000 stations, so youll have plenty of choice.

08.01.2022 If youre interested in using Voice Over on your iPad, heres a great audio demonstration of how to use it. (This goes for almost 50 minutes, so grab a cuppa and get comfy!)
08.01.2022 A VERY interesting read. Grab a cuppa, take a look at this article, then grab your iPad and start using it!
08.01.2022 A very interesting article about how we CAN make our homes our castles. More and more people are turning to home automation and making their house more user friendly, rather than leaving it and relocating to a nursing home or other accommodation.
