21.01.2022 Words have energy and power in any language! They can make us feel better or make us cry. They can change someone else's day or even their life. Yesterday I sent my regular newsletter to my students and followers. I invited them to my new project: Polish for couples. You can imagine how you would feel, when you start something new and have a million doubts and fears even if you know it is a good idea.... This morning I woke up to read a powerful email. 17.01.2022 I remember years ago my friend told me a funny story. Now I always share this with my students when it comes to practicing the opposite verbs. So my friend went for holidays to Spain, to a destination that is very popular among Polish people. She attended to some morning yoga classes where an instructor already knew a few Polish words. Unfortunately, despite all of his kindness, his... wdech - wydech - wdech - wydech sounded exactly the same. If you imagine this, holding the breath for longer, only because you are confused if you should breath in or breath out, must look pretty funny. So yes, there are a couple of verbs where a similar prefix makes a huge difference in the meaning. For example, Wej - Wyj Wdech - Wydech Wjecha - Wyjecha Wczy -Wyczy In our July calendar we will place more attention on the movement verbs and different prefixes which change the meaning. 13.01.2022 If I wanted to make this t-shirt more personal I would add only one more line become a Polish teacher 9 years ago, when I bought a one way ticket to Australia I didn’t have any plans in my head. After many years of working in my Public Relations business and lecturing at the university in Poland - I had only one new resolution: to follow my dreams. Sitting on a Gold Coast beach I was planning my future using a simple 5 question technique. ... I asked myself: Where I am now - in what point of my life? What do I have? What do I know - what skills, knowledge I have? Who can help me - who can be my support team? And where do I want to be? What do I want to achieve? It is easy to guess, that I decided to teach Polish as a foreign language in Australia! Why? 1. I was in Australia and I had lots of free time 2. I had a master degree in Polish philology, business experience and also experience in teaching and creating courses 3. I had friends from my Uni, who helped me with the books and materials I needed before I started to create my own 4. Generally, I am a very social person - it definitely helped me to work with students 1-on-1 5. It always excites me to help people in reaching their personal goals. Why am I sharing it with you? Because the same techniques of those simple questions I use during my trial lessons before I enrol each student. Each time I ask: 1. Where are you now? Why do you want to learn? What are your reasons? 2. What do you know? Here I review your level, because even knowing 2 words - it is something. 3. What do you have? - Do you own any books, audio, access to apps? 4. Who else can help you? - partner, friends, family - they all can support between lessons 5. Where do you want to be in 10 weeks with your Polish? - it helps me to tailor every course. 13.01.2022 There is one advantage of the current global pandemic situation. We are able to participate in many cultural events without leaving our couches. And even if it is not the same as going out nicely dressed up, it definitely brings a ray of sunshine to our tough year. Today, I would like to invite you for the Brisbane Music Festival, especially on the 15th of August, for at least two reasons.... 1. There are not many opportunities when you can hear a Polish opera, or aria, sang on the big stage in Australia. 2. Jeszcze has many meanings in Polish and that is the reason you can hear it so often in many situations. You can use this when you want to say: yet, not yet, some more, still, again, even, else (when you want to compare something). Similarly ju can be use as: already, no longer, no more.

13.01.2022 #mampytanie Many students are confused about it and often ask what is the difference between DUO or DUY. Do you have the same problem? Let's work it out. ... DUO is an adverb and it means "a lot (of)", "many". Good news, as an adverb it doesn't change the ending. DUY, DUA, DUE - they are adjectives and mean 'big", "large". Very similar words, but with different meanings. Examples: Duo pracuj i mam mao czasu. Codziennie duo biegam. Duo jem, a teraz mam duy brzuch. Duo czytam i mam duo ksiek w domu. Australia jest bardzo dua.
