24.01.2022 Have you ever wished there was a step by step approach to holding the neck of the violin? Now there is. In this simple video you'll find the FUNDAMENTAL POSITIONS for your wrist and hand to be in to have a stable, but relaxed hold of the neck. Holding the neck in this way will set you left hand up for advanced finger and hand positions that are used in CHORDS and TENTHS such as what you might find in PAGANINI and BACH. ... The SUCCESS of these feats lie in the fundamentals, so don't miss these CRUCIAL steps! Stay tuned for my upcoming video where I will delve into understanding the mechanism behind this hold. 21.01.2022 Does your bow hold LOOK right, but not WORK right? Throughout my teaching journey I've tried many different approaches to helping my student's develop a FUNCTIONAL bow hold that doesn't just look right, but works efficiently and effectively. I've tried rubber grips, I've tried using pencils, I've tried mobility exercises - all without immediate results. ... HOWEVER... This is the ONE exercise I've used to develop the core function of the bow hold for my students that has creates immediate and lasting results. Discover the trick. 20.01.2022 Are you frustrated with constantly readjusting your instrument in rehearsals? Do you struggle NAILING that high note? Is shifting down from high positions a NIGHTMARE for you?... Do you find your violin sitting completely differently after 5 minutes of playing? Does your LEFT THUMB get SORE from holding the violin? Do you get a STIFF NECK during practise? Is your BOW not STRAIGHT on the string from nut to tip? You may not realise, but these difficulties and many, MANY more are often connected to how you hold your violin. I spent YEARS of practise trying to fix these problems. It wasn't until I took a look at the CAUSE that things changed. Check out this video on how to hold your violin and watch as your technical challenges fade away. THIS IS NOT ONLY FOR BEGINNERS! ENJOY. -Jamie Full Vid HERE: https://youtu.be/gvoQs5uh074

15.01.2022 Bow holds come in all shapes and sizes. I often see bow holds that have held back violinists at all levels from achieving a relaxed and refined sound. There's no doubt that with poor technique you can still achieve a high level of playing if you put enough work into the outcome. ... BUT... You can fastrack your results through efficient use of your body and productive technique. If you know better, you can DO better. Develop a bow hold that serves you. 06.01.2022 How long can you continue to play before you start to 'feel' it? 1 hour? 2 hours? 30 minutes? 10 minutes? Less? Do you get a sore neck or a sore thumb after a period of playing? ... For some of you, you might find that you're having to stop playing every 15 minutes to stretch or rest. For others, it might be a sense of discomfort and instability when manoeuvring around the fingerboard. This is NOT normal and it can be resolved! As a violinist you'll want to continue to play comfortably without rest for minimum of over an hour, and certainly without pain. Why might so many violinists struggle with this even at an advanced level? The answer... Your setup. If you don't fix your setup, you'll continue to struggle playing for long periods without pain or tension, you'll continue to have to readjust your violin in your playing and compromising your performance and practice. Imagine feeling comfortable shifting high up the G string and stability shifting down WITHOUT gripping with your thumb. Or being able to relax your arms more because your violin is secure by your neck and shoulder. Often my students/clients find after their setup has been resolved, they're shifting and vibrato improves, they're able to play for hours without rest, their pain and discomfort subsides and overall practice satisfaction increases. Talk to your teacher today about how you can adjust your setup to eliminate pains and maximise stability and technical efficiency. Book a free call on Facebook to talk about how Learn Violin can help you resolve your setup for a better playing experience. The fundamentals go a long way. #violin #strings #music

04.01.2022 Recently I've had a few students express confusion around tuning their instruments and the inconsistencies of doing it by ear compared to tuning with a tuner. In this video I'll cover: 1. Equal and Pure temperament 2. Why we tune our open strings the way we do... 3. In what context do we tune our strings differently to normal: I.e. With a piano, solo, string or orchestral ensemble See more
