25.01.2022 My goodness. What a week it's been. Much like everyone else, it's been pretty crazy for us as we once again remember to take a deep breath, look after one another and .... adapt . As usual, when I'm no longer able to connect in person I turn to connecting online ... This time it's a pop-up FB Group for women who want to approach the last weeks of this crazy year with intention and positivity. If that sounds like you, I'd love to see you at Hacks for her https://www.facebook.com/groups/hacksforher

23.01.2022 Great article about gender equality in The Adelaide Review featuring an interview with Diarmid in which he eloquently describes the impact of masculine corporate cultures.

23.01.2022 Like a lot of people, we've been reading, hearing, talking and thinking about how living through a pandemic might change us, our work, our lives and maybe even the world for the better. If any of that's going to happen, it will need focused effort. So yesterday I (Anna) flung self-doubt to the wind and started a private Facebook Group - High Return Habits for Leaders - which aims to provide support, accountability and tools to ***actually make*** the changes that matter, rat...her than ***reading, hearing and talking*** about the changes that matter. If that sounds like something that would be useful for you, I'd love you to join me: Ihttps://www.facebook.com/groups/highreturnhabits We're only 1.5 days old and there's already some great conversation happening between awesome people . I'd love to see you there.

23.01.2022 Did you see the story from the The Project on Monday night about the Helping Hands program? It's a great initiative and something we are very proud to have been a part of over the last 12 months. If you're looking for a team building activity with real meaning, the Helpings Hands activity has a profound impact! If you missed The Project you can watch the story here: http://tenplay.com.au//the-pr/extra/season-7/helping-hands

23.01.2022 This is me about to click 'Publish' on the webpage of our brand new leadership development program - High Return Habits for Leaders. That smile is a weird mix of excitement, relief and yes, just a wee bit of trepidation. I've been planning this Program for months, and was all ready to launch in mid-March - venue booked, marketing material designed, program fleshed out ... and of course like so many other plans for mid-March, mine came crashing down around my ears. BUT Covid h...as given me an opportunity to tweak the Program content to reflect the even greater level of uncertainty in which we find ourselves and to plan the learning experience in meticulous detail. With five weeks of daily support and a relentless focus on implementation (using the Tiny Habits method and other tools of Behaviour Design), this is a program that will result in immediate benefits for participants and their organisations. I hope some of you will join me for the inaugural program, which kicks off with a full-day (in person !) workshop on 27th August. Full details at: https://leedconsulting.com.au/high-return-habits

21.01.2022 Some post Book Week musings - it seems to me that while girls' options for 'acceptable' costumes are ever-expanding, boys' possibilities become narrower as they age. And that's not good news for anyone. https://www.linkedin.com//what-book-week-tells-who-our-c/

20.01.2022 *Live sessions on Cultivating Gratitude in Challenging Times (30 minutes, free)* Hi folks Anna here. At the start of this month (seems a lifetime ago...), we launched the Think Better. Do Better. Membership Site as a side project. Our aim is to help answer questions related to the shenanigans of the human brain, such as: why do I worry about stuff I can't change? Why can't I make myself do stuff that is so obviously good for me? Why do I constantly underestimate how long ever...ything will take? The site provides tools, resources and live online masterclasses that help people: 1. make wise decisions about how they invest limited resources such as emotional energy, attention and time. 2. bridge the gap between good intention and sustained action 3. proactively manage the demands of the digital age on overwhelmed brains and underused bodies. Given how many of our workshops and programs have been postponed, we're going to have a lot more time to devote to TBDB in coming months - (everything on TBDB will remain 100% free for the duration of the pandemic). I'd love you to join me for a 7-day Gratitude Challenge starting on Monday - we'll have people from all over the world joining us, which I think will make it an especially positive experience at this point in time. Register here: https://members.thinkbetterdobetter.com/. And/or, join me for a 30-minute live Zoom session on Tiny Habits for Cultivating Gratitude in Challenging Times: SESSION 1: Friday March 27th 1.30pm https://tinyhabits.zoom.us//tJMkdu-prTMiiXC4dcDnHtCCRu6RZt SESSION 2: Monday March 30th 8pm https://tinyhabits.zoom.us//uZcucOmsqDsiauclPZXaEP_yqjZc8g SESSION 3: Tuesday March 31st 9.30am https://tinyhabits.zoom.us//v5YlcumpqDkj6F73Qm4PgmXWTTRzMG Take care and hope to see some of you at: https://members.thinkbetterdobetter.com/.

20.01.2022 Last Thursday I launched the very first High Return Habits for People Leaders Program with a full-day F2F workshop. The photo below is an excellent representation of just how good it felt to be in a room with other (wonderful ) human beings exploring and learning and laughing. The sun shone as we planted the seeds of high return habits, which we'll be watering and fertilising in small group coaching sessions over the next month ... No better time than springtime to be tending the garden (literally and metaphorically ).

15.01.2022 This article raises some interesting points about the dangers of focussing solely on strengths. 13.01.2022 I try not to brag about my gorgeous brother Diarmid, because it seems almost unseemly to have this awesome man as both a brother AND a business partner. But Diarmid is Chair of his kids' School Council, and spent his holiday Monday afternoon baking brownies as a 'thank you' to the teachers for their great work during Covid. And as this was such a perfect illustration of both why I adore this man AND how we need men to lead, I couldn't resist sharing it. If we want gender equa...lity - in our communities, our workplaces and our society - we must recognise the importance of traditionally feminine traits (like investing energy in making people feel good) to great leadership. And we must encourage and support all leaders to draw on the full spectrum of human qualities - strength, vulnerability, compassion etc. - regardless of gender. Yes, I know that in 2020 a man baking brownies for teachers shouldn't be a big deal, but we all know that the provision of baked goods for schools still falls largely to women. And that the leadership of Boards, Governments, Parliaments and companies falls largely to men. So here's to my little brother and all the other leaders who remind us that baking brownies and top tier leadership can belong to everyone.

10.01.2022 If you’d like a feel-good, rather than a feel-frenetic, festive season, the following tips from our resilience programs are worth considering over your morning beverage of choice: - Work out what you actually WANT to do over the break. If you don’t consciously plan how you spend your time, money and energy, you’ll find other people doing this for you. - Ask yourself 'what's really important to ME?' Now is not the time to catch up with your third cousin once removed. If these ...are genuine priorities for you, schedule them now for early next year. - Think about a positive emotion you would like to feel more deeply or more frequently this time of year. It could be joy, excitement, calm, or contentment. Schedule in at least one activity per week that you know will bring you that emotion. Whatever you have planned for the festive season, we hope it brings with it some rest and renewal for your mind and body. Anna, Diarmid and Katheryn

06.01.2022 My first in-person workshop for months is this Thursday, and I can't wait. Yet last night while contemplating how to facilitate engaging ice-breakers, paired discussions and decision-making scenarios with 24 participants while adhering to social distancing measures, I suddenly felt ... ... overwhelmed.... My excitement at returning to the work I love was sideswiped by the realisation that we're still a pretty long way from 'normal'. Not since the early weeks of shutdown have all those unanswerable questions assaulted me with such force - When will this be over? What will it mean for us all in the medium and long term? How will we all be changed? I was tempted to pick up my phone, lie on the couch and scroll mindlessly. Instead, I put the phone on silent, lay on the couch and beckoned our cat Luna onto my chest for a cuddle. Ten minutes later I felt fine. And I had coined a new term: COVerwhelm*. I think it will probably visit me from time to time for the foreseeable future. When I can't sit down for a coffee in my favourite bookshop. When I watch movies and everyone's shaking hands and hugging willy-nilly. When I hear the news from friends in the UK and US. No doubt it will visit me from time to time for the foreseeable future. While Covid has left me feeling deeply grateful for so much, at times it's also filled me with anxiety, despair, guilt and sorrow. And that's okay. If a cat and a sofa are sufficient to remedy my COVerwhelm, I'm incredibly fortunate. If you, too, find COVerwhelm sneaking up on you, be gentle with yourself. And remember: it's okay to feel messy sometimes. * New to me. I Googled it and a Paleo blogger came up with it months before I did.

04.01.2022 I hope this latest Think Better. Do Better. blog post about how to stop inadvertently messing up relationships proves useful to some of you!

04.01.2022 A couple of years ago a 22-year old German entrepreneur told us that we were mad not to be offering some of our programs online. I thought ‘I’m old enough to be your mother and definitely waaayyyy too old to get my head around that stuff’ and then gave myself a good talking to. Diarmid and I launched Think Better. Do Better. less than a year later. We’ve loved the small group work, strong relationships and 1:1 elements of TBDB, but wanted to experiment with an affordable o...nline offering that gets results quickly. Here's what we came up with. We’d love to get grateful with you next week! https://members.thinkbetterdobetter.com/plans/23993

03.01.2022 Many of you know that much of our work in diversity and inclusion involves exploring the impact of unconscious biases such as stereotyping, confirmation bias and the in-group effect. What you may not know is that our fascination with unconscious biases extends beyond the organisational context to their impact on individual decision-making, relationships, performance and wellbeing. Think Better. Do Better. is a side project we've been working on for a while, and we're finall...y ready to release it into the wild. The website includes free how-tos, guides and worksheets that will help you translate aspiration into action, spend the limited resources of time, energy and attention wisely and safeguard against biases that frequently derail good intentions. We hope you’ll join us in our quest to turn our longing to be better into *actually* being better, by following us on Facebook, subscribing to our blog and checking out the website. If you like what you see, please tell your friends and colleagues.
