24.01.2022 Nursery and Toddler Christmas Parties 2020: This year we decided to have room celebrations instead of 1 big Christmas party. Nursery kicked it off yesterday with a very relaxed high tea put on by Julia and Nat. Tinsel (Tayla) from Bippity Boppity Brish provided the facepainting. It really has been a lovely way to spend the afternoons
24.01.2022 Today some of the children went up to Joondalup by train to see the Shaun the Sheep movie, Farmaeddon. They walked down to the train station to catch the train up to the cinemas. The children had a picnic lunch before heading into the movie. By all accounts it was a very good movie and enjoyed by everyone.
24.01.2022 The kindy children have been very interested in sea creatures since Science Week so today some of them walked down to Kailis Bros in Leederville for a behind the scenes tour and lunch. They posted some coffee pods on the way down before being met by Mickey who showed the children where they would be having lunch. Dan showed them the fish and they were allowed to touch them as they were wearing gloves. He also showed them how to cut up fish properly. Dan was very patient and ...answered all of the children's questions. Then it was time to sit down and have fish and chips for lunch with prawns and squid rings! Sounds delicious. As you know there is lots of building going on in our neighbourhood so the children watched the builders who waved from up high. Next week on Thursday the rest of the kindy children will go down as we all adhere to COVID safety plans. See more

22.01.2022 Today is the last day for many children at Leederville Early Childhood Centre. Christina organised a disco for them complete with a disco light. There was great dancing and lots of singing along to Dance Monkey The children also enjoyed a game of Pass the Parcel. Good luck to all the children starting school next week. We hope you have enjoyed your time with us at LECC. Feel free to drop in anytime
21.01.2022 Today we were very lucky to have Abi come in and spend some time with the children. Abi, who is a parent in our service, came armed with lots of clay and the children set out to create some clay owls. It was fascinating to see them create the wings by folding the clay. They then added texture to the wings by using different utensils. The owls are now drying out before Abi takes them to fire them in the kilns. Thank you Abi for sharing your artistic skills with us all.
21.01.2022 Kindy trip to REMIDA: The kindy children visited REMIDA this morning to see an amazing story telling space that they created. It is an enchanted forest with giant spider and webs and dark, dark trees. The children caught the bus to REMIDA and, once there listened to Paul tell the story of the spider creating the moon. After the story, the children were able to explore the resources that are there. They all chose something to bring back to LECC. Another bus ride brought the children safely back in time for lunch.

After lunch, they explored the shipwreck gallery, the park and also went dinosaur hunting. It was a very quiet train trip back with some of the children having a quick nap on the train. A lovely day in our port city.

19.01.2022 Last night the team gathered to hear Jenna Price from Cannington Physiotherapy & Pilates Studio speak to us about back care and safe lifting. Jenna visited the service last week and had observed some some of the educators at work. She discussed last night the importance of stretching and being mindful of repetitive actions such as picking up hats and moving equipment. Thank you Jenna for coming to speak with us.
19.01.2022 Today's adventure was to the Telethon Discovery Centre in Perth Children's Hospital. We caught the number 96 bus from near the train station, which dropped us off in the hospital precinct. After a short walk through the hospital we found the discovery centre. We were greeted by Lisa who happily took us into the centre. We split up into 2 groups to explore all the different things on offer. We could look into a research laboratory, see inside our bodies with xrays and ultras...ounds, complete puzzles, look in microscopes and follow the journey of food in the body. Lisa gave all the children a "Little Scientist" sticker as we left. We had a picnic lunch and a run before we caught the bus back. The Telethon Discovery Centre is a free centre and information about visiting in a large group is available on line. See more
18.01.2022 It has been a tough few weeks but we still can find joy in the simplest of things. Our kindy children on Friday just started painting rainbows as some had seen them out on a walk with their families. You can see their creations as you come into the service and it will definitely put a smile on your face. The Rainbow Trail makes a way for children to be creative and find others creations on their walks. All you have to do is create Rainbow pictures and stick them in your window. Look out on Educa for some more rainbow inspired ideas.
18.01.2022 Today we went up to Leighton Nursing Home and Aged Care to see the residents and give them the bags that the children had decorated. Tanika read a great story by Mem Fox called "I'm Australian Too" before they played the parachute game. The residents were very happy to receive their gifts from the children and they passed on their best wishes to the children who are leaving us for school. The visits to the nursing home will continue on a monthly basis throughout 2020.
18.01.2022 We would like to say Merry Christmas to all our families and friends. Please be safe over this festive season and have a very Happy New Year. We will be back in action on Monday 6th January 2020. See you then
17.01.2022 What better way to spend a hot, summers afternoon, than with a bowl of freshly made gelato? Today, the foyer transformed into a Gelateria and the Kindy children made their own gelato using frozen fruit. The flavours included lamponi, (raspberries) cocco, (coconut) banana and frutti di bosco, (mixed berries). The children devoured their cold and delicious treat for afternoon tea, along with a fruit muffin. I wonder what Italian treat awaits our next adventure.
17.01.2022 Today Ermanno came and made pizza with the children . Christina also made a blueberry cake and smoothies with them. Ermanno is a chef who has worked at different pizzerias in Perth. He also has the natural dessert business Brothers in Nature.. The pizzas were eaten very quickly for lunch and the cake looks delicious. Roll on afternoon tea
16.01.2022 Today's adventure was to the Ivey Watson Playground in Kings Park. We walked over the freeway to catch the green CAT bus to Kings Park. We explored the area by playing on the plane and fire truck, racing through the maze, jumping on the pirate ship and reading all the amazing books that are throughout the playground. We then stopped for lunch before heading back for a movie and afternoon tea.

13.01.2022 It was lovely to have May back from leave last week. She took down all our Easter decorations and has put up a very simple ANZAC Day display. Please see below for information on the 2020 ANZAC Day commemoration. ANZAC Day 2020: Embracing the Spirit of Mateship... RSLWA is encouraging all Australians to get creative in a show of mateship this ANZAC Day by standing in quiet contemplation at the end of their driveways, or on their balconies, at 6am on April 25. RSLWA has listened to its followers on social media and will run with this beautiful tribute to our fallen servicemen and women, and those who have or still serve today, with a collective show of respect in the wake of the first cancellation of our ANZAC Day services since WWII, due to the COVID-19 crisis. We invite the community to get behind our new-look, resilient ANZAC Day by: Watching out for our moving community service announcements on TV and social media in coming weeks . Starring some of WAs most inspiring Veterans, as well as the WA Governor, His Excellency Kim Beazley AC, State Premier Mark McGowan and RSLWA CEO John McCourt. Sharing our mateship-themed Veteran video profiles and articles on the web and social media. Having children draw beautiful poppies with rosemary to post on our Facebook page. Light a candle at 5.55am and join our ANZAC Day driveway Dawn Service for 6am on April 25. Tune in to the ABC to hear The Ode, The Last Post and join in the one-minute silence. Fire up the barbecue for a traditional gunfire breakfast of bacon, eggs and sausages plus a mug of (rum-spiked) tea or coffee to toast the fallen. Post all your ANZAC Day tributes and photos to RSLWAs Facebook and Instagram pages. We trust that you will be inspired by the mateship, courage, and resilience of our ANZACs to join us in the special commemoration. For at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget!

Thank you Mary for sharing your soap making knowledge with us.
10.01.2022 The educators regularly reflect on events going on with the children. In the photos you will see a copy of the recent reflection from the kindy room. Rebecca shares with her colleagues her observations about the children's play and how they have been using the environments and resources. So today the large outdoor space was set up with lots of loose parts for the children to explore. Rebecca spoke about how the material was used as capes, tower blocks were built that were as high as the children, tubes were binoculars....the list goes on. The day has demonstrated the creativity of the children when given open ended materials.

09.01.2022 It really has been a busy day today. Jarrad came to visit with his pet snake Misty. Misty is a 3 year old Carpet Python. Jarrad spoke with the children about what Misty likes to eat (large rats), what she does all day (rest) and how long she is (over 2 metres). Jarrad was first introduced to snakes at his Poppa's house when he was 10 years old and he loves how calm and cold Misty is. Jarrad also told the children that it was important to tell an adult if the children ever see a snake as it could be venomous. You can chat with Jarrad at our Christmas party next week as he is part of the jazz band we have :)

06.01.2022 Normally when the National Simultaneous Storytime happens, we walk up to the City of Vincent library to hear a story, usually read by the Mayor, Emma Cole. Things are a bit different this year and we just read the book here at LECC. Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas is a gorgeous tale of chickens, singing and lots of bling. Written by Australian author Lucinda Gifford, it is a quality addition to any child's library.
