25.01.2022 Coercive control laws are long overdue, and will be an important step in reducing domestic violence. Well done to Katrine Hildyard MP for leading the way, and bringing this to Parliament. Also to The Advertiser's Lauren Novak for her long-term commitment to this issue. South Australian Labor

25.01.2022 Out in the weather this morning with Emily Bourke - Labor MLC and the rest of the South Australian Labor team, reminding commuters that Steven Marshall promised that he didn't have a "privatisation agenda"! Peter Malinauskas and Labor have a plan to take back our trains and trams.

25.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government told us that privatising the maximum security Adelaide Remand Centre would be safe. Barely a year after a private company took control of the prison, a dangerous remand prisoner has escaped.

24.01.2022 Steven Marshall has just announced that he is handing over $2.14 billion of taxpayers money to an overseas company to run our train network. So much for 'no privatisation agenda'!

23.01.2022 A few familiar names here...

21.01.2022 39 years ago today my parents brought me and my sisters to Elizabeth, and gave us opportunities we would never have had back in England. Thanks Mum and Dad. Good call. Elizabeth That Was

20.01.2022 "He will be released after one year on a commonwealth recognisance order requiring supervision for two years. "On the child exploitation material offences, he was sentenced to one year, two months and 13 days behind bars with an eight month non-parole period and fined $2000." Is this sentence adequate? What do you think?

19.01.2022 There is nothing more important as the Minister for Child Protection than keeping children safe that are under your care. What has happened to this vulnerable 1...3 year old girl is nothing short of abhorrent. Child Protection Minister Rachel Sanderson must explain how this was allowed to happen and what actions she has taken to make sure it doesn't ever happen again to a child in State Care.

19.01.2022 Paula Luethen MP - Member for KING has resigned from the Environment, Resources and Development (ERD) Committee in less than 24 hours into the job! The ERD Comm...ittee examines important issues concerning the states environment and planning laws - their decisions have a very real impact on our neighborhoods. This resignation is yet another Liberal blunder in the first week back from break.

18.01.2022 I have written to Facebook Australia/NZ Managing Director William Easton requesting that he immediately removes restrictions on important government pages that ...broadcast public safety messages. I am appalled that pages like SA Health are shut down in the midst of a public health emergency and the Bureau of Meteorology when we have Very High Fire Danger Ratings in parts of South Australia. It is totally unacceptable.

18.01.2022 I don't have a dog, but over the last eight months, we have all grown to love Dusty the Kangaroo Island Kelpie!

16.01.2022 These aren’t just meaningless numbers: these are people - thousands of South Australians who have been let down by Steven Marshall's failed economic response to the recession.

16.01.2022 Incredible work as always from our SA State Emergency Service crews last night, responding to over 125 jobs across the metro area last night. Salisbury State Emergency Service

16.01.2022 As Shadow Minister for Police and Road Safety, it's my job to listen to you, and work with you to make our streets and suburbs safer. I get heaps of calls from Hillbank about crime, hoon driving and anti-social behaviour, so this Saturday morning I will be holding community safety listening posts at two locations in Hillbank. Me and my volunteers delivered the last of the invitations today. It's pretty windy up there!... If you can't make it and you have some concerns, let me know below or by private message. And tag your Hillbank friends and family. South Australian Labor Labor for King The Bunyip Newspaper Peter Malinauskas Hillbank, 5112

15.01.2022 The SA CFS is yet to fully understand whether there'll be any implications on our ability to share information from this page, in light of Facebook's block on n...ews sites. As always, we encourage you to ensure you are able to access multiple sources for information in the event of a fire and on days of dangerous fire weather. 15.01.2022 With the Shadow Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison MP at Elizabeth City Centre this afternoon, talking to locals about Steven Marshall's axing of the Adelaide 500, and Peter Malinauskas's plan to bring the race back.

15.01.2022 Is there anything Steven Marshall won't sell off?! Now he plans to privatise the service that manages the maintenance of government buildings - police stations, schools and hospitals. This will have a devastating impact on the many plumbers, builders, electricians and other contractors who gathered at Parliament House today, to call on Steven Marshall to scrap his privatisation plans.

14.01.2022 At Elizabeth Park Shops this morning, one thing which came up time and time again was the impact (and perceived inconsistencies) of COVID restrictions in local businesses and licensed premises. If you are a local business owner or customer, let me know your views below.

13.01.2022 One of Australia’s top infection-control experts has joined calls for a COVID-19 hotel quarantine rethink, saying moving infected people away from population centres "just makes logical sense".

13.01.2022 Hows Steven Marshall going? This probably says it all.

13.01.2022 Tell me what you think.... I will be at the Park Shops tomorrow from 10-12 to chat about what is important to you. If you can't get there and you'd like to tell me about a local issue leave a comment below or send a private message.... (Please respect social distancing)

13.01.2022 New Police Minister Vincent Tarzia needs to move quickly on gel blaster regulation. Importers and recreational users need certainty and, more importantly, the public and the police need to be kept safe. The Advertiser Gabriel Polychronis

11.01.2022 ** Save the Adelaide 500 ** Tomorrow Zoe Bettison MP, Shadow Minister for Tourism, and I will be at Elizabeth City Centre, rallying support to bring back the Adelaide 500, axed by Steven Marshall. A future Labor Government is committed to bringing the race back.... From 9, outside Qbd Bookshop Elizabeth. SAVE Adelaide 500 South Australian Labor Peter Malinauskas

10.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who came along to my Community Safety Listening Posts in Hillbank. Several local crime issues were raised, but the topic of hoons on trail bikes dominated the conversation. I will be talking to the local police, and local councillors, about ways we can tackle this problem, both in Hillbank and more broadly.... (And thanks all for social distancing)

10.01.2022 News has come out this week that premises where Hindley Street Police Station is currently located is up for lease. Little detail has been revealed about what i...s happening with police presence in Hindley Street once the lease is up. There must continue to be a police station presence on Hindley Street and it must continue to have easy access for the public and there cannot be any disruption to a police station presence in this precinct.

10.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Legislation to STOP hefty sentencing discounts have stalled in #saparli again because the Marshall Liberal Govt refused to deal with the Bill in ...the Legislative Council. The Liberals shut down the Legislative Council at 5:45pm something Labor opposed. Paedophiles and other serious offenders will be pushing each other out of the way to plead guilty and take advantage of the governments inexcusable lack of action. Tell Steven Marshall to STOP the delays: https://changesa.org.au/sentencing

10.01.2022 I spent the afternoon talking to Adelaide residents, on behalf of Lucy Hood - Labor for Adelaide, about what matters to them. Lucy will make a great local MP, because she doesn't just show up, she follows up on people's concerns. South Australian Labor

09.01.2022 Steven Marshall needs to do more to support our local tourism industry.

09.01.2022 The hard lockdown is over, but we still need to be careful with our hand hygiene and social distancing, and follow the restrictions. Remember, it is advisable to wear a mask where social distancing is difficult, like public transport.

08.01.2022 The motorbike road safety Bill on the left was introduced by me in May 2019, and reintroduced by me in March 2020. The Liberals have consistently opposed it. The Bill on the right was introduced by the Liberals today. They are almost identical! ... Why the 18 month delay?? #roadsafety

08.01.2022 When the Marshall Liberal Government proposed to close three Service SA Centres, I knew it was something worth fighting for. South Australian Labor stood with p...eople like Campbell to gather over 15,000 signed petitions against these cuts. And in June, we won - with the Government backflipping on its plans to close three Service SA Centres. Everyone deserves a fair go with better services - and not have services reduced or closed. Which is why we fought so hard with the community to keep it open.

08.01.2022 Yesterday I wrote to the Premier advising him that Labor will take urgent action regarding the investigation into the Country Members Travel Allowance when Parl...iament resumes on Tuesday. From when this issue first came to light I issued a clear direction to my MPs that they must fully cooperate with the ICAC investigation and they must not claim parliamentary privilege on any documents requested. Steven Marshall failed to do the same. This must be resolved as soon as possible to ensure ICAC can conduct its investigation unimpeded Labor will move to demand MPs handover all documents requested by ICAC within 48 hours, so they can be independently assessed by a retired judge. We are talking about a criminal corruption investigation into MPs this is a matter of the utmost importance, which goes to the heart of the integrity of Parliament.

08.01.2022 The Liberal Government wants new laws for itself to declare 'National Emergencies' yet it still won't commit to a national aerial firefighting capability! The Royal Commission recommended an aerial capability, and it was one the most practical things it could have done in the short term. This is a real missed opportunity.

08.01.2022 Privatisation doesn’t work. When the Adelaide Remand Centre was publicly run, it was a safe and secure facility, it went decades without an escape. Then Steven Marshall privatised it.... It has taken less than 15 months for a dangerous prisoner to escape.

08.01.2022 Happy Father's Day! Lovely day to wander down to Grandad's for a lazy afternoon.

05.01.2022 At this time in South Australia it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended to wear a mask when out in public and you can’t physically distance (1.5m fr...om others). Please note: children under 12 years of age do not need to wear a mask, as they may not be able to handle it safely. The term ‘face mask or mask’ includes reusable cloth masks, and single-use face masks (commonly called surgical masks). At this time, ‘fitted’ face coverings, such as bandanas, scarves, or neck gaiters can be used if you are unable to find a cloth mask, or single-use surgical face mask. Face masks that have unfiltered one-way valves should not be used. Important things to remember about wearing masks: 1 Once your mask is on, it is important that you don’t touch or adjust the front of it while wearing it it’s the part that’s protecting you from COVID-19. If you do touch it by accident, wash or sanitise your hands right away. 2 Before putting your mask on and after taking it off, remember to thoroughly wash and dry (or sanitise) your hands. To learn more about face masks: www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVIDmasks

05.01.2022 Salisbury State Emergency Service would like to introduce you to our volunteer of the month for August: Stephen Green. Stephen is one of our deputy team leaders... and a much respected member of the unit. How long have you been involved with SES? I have been involved for almost a year now. I initally became interested when my son's scouts visited Enfield unit. I had been out of the defence force about 3 years and felt I still had valuable skills to pass on What is your role and what training have you undertaken? My current role is a Deputy Team Leader for Team Bravo. I take this role very seriously and want the best for 'my team' and the unit. I say 'my team' because I feel proud to be able to represent the members of my team and coordinate their ideas, skills and work ethic into an effective and valuable asset. So far this year, 2020, I have completed the 'chainsaw' course and re-qualified in first aid and are currently studying for rescue operations. I'm keen to become a more effective member of the unit by expanding my SES skill base to be able to compliment the crews we send out to assist the community in emergency situations. What do you do outside of SES? (work and hobbies) Currently I am unemployed/semi-retired, but wish to work again once I have completed my rehabilitation. I am keen to undertake a training role with TAFE SA or similar organisation, but will settle for a role where I feel I can contribute. My hobbies are many and varied, I enjoy working in my shed on various projects, I enjoy bush walking and hiking, however my body doesn't like it too much anymore. I very much enjoy riding my motorcycle on long trips and seeing all that our beautiful country has to offer. I enjoy spending time with my pet parrots, dog and cat. What do you love most about SES Salisbury? I'd have to say the members are what makes the unit. The commitment of the general members to the community and the ability of the leadership group stitch all of these different people with different skill sets and diverse backgrounds into a cohesive and functional unit is impressive. I love the way we all work together with a common interest in mind. Do you have any words for those interested in joining? We are all different people with different life experiences and diverse backgrounds, yet we all sacrifice a portion of our valuable time to assist our community and those in need during emergency situations. This type of community service can be fulfilling, exciting, fun, scary and sad, however because we share these experiences together we grow as a group and support each other through the good and the bad times, the only other group that comes close to this type of dedication is a family. Life is difficult and challenging at times and whenever you feel most alone and sad, there is always someone in our weird little family that can help pick you up again.

05.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY: It was 20 years ago today that we won our first premiership!

04.01.2022 If you tend to get most of your news from Facebook, you may have missed this:

04.01.2022 Police are seeking assistance from the public to help locate missing boy Julian Wheeler. Julian, 13, was last seen at the Elizabeth Interchange about 6.45pm Thu...rsday 12 November. Police are concerned for his welfare. Julian is about 150cm tall, slim build, short brown parted on the left. He was last seen wearing blue shorts, black zip-up jacket and black and white sport shoes Anyone who sees Julian Wheeler is asked to call the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131444.

02.01.2022 Steven Marshall's promise to send sniffer dogs into schools is a farce. One search in two years. No offences. Education minister blames COVID and SAPOL resourcing... but SAPOL say they have all the resources they need!?

02.01.2022 Absolutely shocking. We must have a full independent inquiry into how this could possibly happen. Anything short of that is completely unacceptable.

01.01.2022 Yesterday, Parliament had another chance to fix the law, and secure longer jail terms for pedophiles. It is unbelievable that the Attorney General is blaming the Greens for these delays.
