25.01.2022 Update 2 http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21033.shtml

25.01.2022 Appeal for information after NSW SES property damaged Lake Cargelligo Police are appealing for information after multiple vessels belonging to the NSW State ...Emergency Services (NSW SES) were damaged in the state’s Central West at the weekend. Between 5pm on Saturday (21 November 2020) and 7am Sunday (22 November 2020), seven flood boats and rescue equipment belonging to the NSW SES was damaged at Lake Cargelligo. The vessels had been anchored to the lake foreshore following a rescue training day. Officers attached to Central West Police District attended and conducted a canvas of the area. Police established each boat had been damaged, nine fire extinguishers had contents emptied and thrown into the water, and a lifejacket containing a safety kit, radios and a box of flares were stolen. Exhibits have been seized for forensic examination. An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident, including dashcam or CCTV footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.

19.01.2022 Heads up for the weekend! The Bureau of Meteorology says we may be in for some unsettled weather across the state over the next few days. That means from today..., there is the potential for showers and thunderstorms across the south and eastern parts of NSW, and a strong southerly change travelling up the coast. Get prepared now by: Moving your car undercover and away from trees Securing or putting away loose items around your house, yard or balcony For emergency help in floods and storms, call NSW SES on 132 500 For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) Need more information on the simple things you and your family can do to prepare? Head to: http://bit.ly/2xJYae1 #GetReady #stormseason #storms

19.01.2022 The Bureau has confirmed that a La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific, with climate models suggesting it's likely to remain until at least the end of 2020.... La Niña typically brings: A wetter-than-average spring and summer to northern and eastern Australia; Cooler-than-average days and warmer-than-average nights; Increased tropical cyclone numbers; An earlier start to the monsoon and wet season; Average fire risk; and Less intense but more prolonged heatwaves across southern Australia. But every La Niña event is different. Once La Niña develops it usually finishes the following autumn, but some events have lasted 2 or 3 years. Rainfall can also vary considerably. During the last big event of 2010-2012 rainfall was above average across most of Australia (we saw Category 5 tropical cyclone Yasi devastate far north Queensland communities during this period), whereas rainfall during the La Niña event of 2008-2009 was much more patchy. 16.01.2022 Hot off the press!! We aren’t ‘kitten’ around! The Griffith and Leeton SES Units responded to a call tonight to rescue a feline who had a bit of a ‘cat’-astroph...e, finding itself trapped in a drain. Our members used an Arachnopod and a vertical rescue roping system to lower a rescuer into the drain to retrieve the ‘cat-sualty’. We called on the expertise of Griffith Fire and Rescue NSW to provide a gas detector for atmospheric monitoring and an air extension line. Our community is really lucky, as Griffith Fire and Rescue NSW and Griffith SES regularly train and practice together to ensure we can perform any Rescue required in the Griffith area to save lives. How ‘claw’-some is our team!! If you are interested in becoming a Rescue volunteer, pop in to our information evening at 6.30 pm on the 18th of January. More details on our page!!

01.01.2022 Need some puppy love? The Griffith SES can not only assist you in times of storms and floods, but did you know we can also help with animal rescue? Our unit ha...s a internationally recognised Large Animal Rescue trainer as part of our team, as well as a veterinarian, and we are able to assist you when your cow ‘udderly’ fails and falls into a hole, or when your horse gets stuck in a ‘neigh’-bouring muddy dam. We can also help move livestock during a flood event. Here are some of our team members practicing their rescue skills, and a couple more with a puppy who decided he could get under a house, but not get out!! Interested in learning more?
