16.01.2022 ***ROAD SAFETY FOR THE 2020 GRAIN HARVEST*** The 2020 harvest time is almost upon us in the Riverina and all indications are that the harvest will be one of the biggest in a decade or more. This will result in more heavy trucks, harvesting machinery and B-doubles on local and surrounding roads than have been experienced for some time.... The Riverina is looking forward to a bumper grain harvest season and Leeton Shire Council would like residents to remain safe as farmers and motorists share the road during harvest season. All motorists and road users are asked to be more aware on the roads over the next few months during harvest season in the region, which also coincides with school holidays and increased traffic over the Christmas holiday period. Transport Companies are reminded: *That NOT ALL ROADS are B-DOUBLE routes and require NHVR access approval before commencing travel. *To use alternative routes if available. *To use the designated farm entry and departure gates. *To follow the road rules and comply with the chain of responsibility requirements. *To be mindful of rural school bus stops and children. ALL road users are urged to: *Remember that trucks take longer to STOP and require more room to manoeuvre. *Be aware that there will be more trucks and harvesting machinery on the road and to drive to the conditions. *Drive with your HEADLIGHTS ON Be Safe, Be Seen. *Avoid distractions whilst behind the wheel.
