24.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - Pancake has found herself in the sick bay tonight. It’s the usual egg laying issues these poor hens suffer from constantly. She isn’t happy to be inside. Photo Two - Kek Kek didn’t do it!... Photo Three - My personal face checking assistant is Cookie Monster. She makes sure my face is acceptable to be seen by the public several times a day. Photo Four - This handsome man just moved in today!

22.01.2022 Bobby Bob Bob really does like her new stickers, even though it looks like she doesn’t. *These will be going out to people who donate OR if you really want one.

22.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - The view I see when I look down all day, everyday. Photo Two - Parsnip lives in the special needs flock. It’s a flock without a rooster. Big Boss Babe dances around their enclosure each day and all the hens inside hate him. No men allowed.... Photo Three - The Babes waiting at the door for old Bowie who is slowly fading each day, but putting up one hell of a fight to stay on this earth. Photo Four - It was all so innocent until Kevin headbutted Jackson in to the gate. This was photo was taken ten seconds before that happened.

22.01.2022 No news tonight except that Wrinkles loves everyone - including Kevin.

21.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - Little Gecko had an ultrasound this morning. Sadly her uterus is full of egg matter, she’s been laying internally. She’s on the long road to recovery now though. Photo Two - Robyn won a competition and she won 100 dollars worth of hay. Even though Robyn has her own sheep, she donated it to Lefty’s. How lovely is that. Thanks to Robyn and to Bobby Kerr who ran the competition. ... Photo Three - Mr Biddle loves the Pom Poms! Everyone loves to have some cheerleaders on their side. Photo Four - Kek Kek’s current hobby is hoarding eggs.

20.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Spring and summer mornings walks are our favourites. Photo One - Jackson (who I’ve called Justin by accident three times in the last two days) waiting for that gate to swing open.... Photo Two - My beautiful boy, Righty. Photo Three - Peaches, Sherbet and Eddie still hate my guts. Photo Four - Waiting for the gate to open.

19.01.2022 Bob is quite busy this morning.

19.01.2022 Good Morning from The Little Babes. The Babes came from a hatching program that was in my grandfather’s nursing home earlier this year. I took seven chicks - Big Boss Babe, Crinkle Cut Babe, Cornjack Babe, Manny Babe, Adam Ant Babe, Eyeliner Babe and Blue Light Disco Babe. All seven are the most divine little individuals who are so excited by everything. Hatching programs deny chicks of everything a mother gives them - love, lessons, safety and wisdom. They are such a cruel ...thing. My grandfather passed away last week and I will always remember him nodding off next to these newly hatched babies who were so lucky to find a good home, most don’t. Chickens aren’t on this earth for our entertainment or our food, they are actually here for themselves.

19.01.2022 The three new musketeers here. All orphans. Brought up for the first few months by Happier Pets. From left - Logan (aka Ted Theodore Logan), Melanie (aka Amelie) and Finn (aka Bill and Finnigan).

16.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - Scrunky has been traumatised. A morning hair cut and bottom trimming has got her googling counsellors in the area. Photo Two - Leggy Blonde is not sharing her piece of bread. Not now. Not ever.... Photo Three - I picked up two new residents today and before I could get them out of the car Manny Babe and Blue Light Disco Babe had to inspect the situation. Photo Four - This is the first time ever Old Gregg has been locked in the yard for a few minutes. We are slowly learning that it’s not all super scary. He did shake uncontrollably though, the poor boy, but he’ll get better each day. He wouldn’t accept my Weetbix, but Greedy had no trouble taking it off my hands.

15.01.2022 Oh Yennifer! Sweet old Yennifer has seen a lot in her days. Passed from home to home and then advertised on gumtree when she was no longer wanted because she wasn't laying eggs. Chickens that get one home all their lives are so lucky, most chickens are passed around like a borrowed book and then discarded when they are no longer of use. No different to a dog or a cat, chickens bond with their people and it must be so scary and so unsettling for chickens to find themselves in... different backyards and dealing with different people constantly. Luckily for Yennifer, she has a home here until she leaves the world. She will never have to pay for her accomodation with eggs ever again.

14.01.2022 Today's Lefty's Place News! Photo One - He can sometimes be a little overwhelming and confrontational, but my Big Boss Babe is so good at his job looking after his girls. He's such a character <3 Photo Two - Bobby Bob Bob trying to copy Leggy Blonde.... Photo Three - Mr Finnigan (aka Bill) looking shocked about the sunset behind him. Photo Four - Kevin meets Ted Theodore Logan. They aren't friends just yet.

14.01.2022 Our gentle giant, Old Gregg, lifted his head and let the soft icy snow fall on to his face on one magical day in September.

11.01.2022 This is Savoy. She came via Melbourne Chicken Rescue and spent her first years stuck in a little cage on an egg farm. These days Savoy has the job of my knee chicken. Absolutely anywhere I sit down, she is there ready to get to work sitting on my knee ( and often my arm). She jumps up and gets comfy. It’s a big job but someone has to do it. It’s pretty gorgeous and I love her

10.01.2022 Albus Dumbledore and his magical ladies dance around in the late afternoon light. There are currently four different flocks of chickens here and all four are allocated different times out of their enclosures during the day. Albus and company get the late afternoon shift and if I'm late, they stand at their gate jumping up and down, screaming and I'm always sure I can see Albus concentrating and trying to conjure up a magical spell to make me appear and open the gate.

08.01.2022 Beautiful Melody is the sweetest of hens. She knows my routine and is right at my feet when I'm dishing out the bowls at 4.30pm. Melody is next in line for a vet check and most likely a suprelorin implant. She's starting to struggle laying like they all start to at some point. Not all hens here have implants, I don't believe in implanting healthy hens, but I do get the hens implanted who would otherwise die from reproductive problems without them. Spring brings on all the egg... laying related issues and right now I'm swimming in no funds and lots of hens who need help. If you'd like to help a rescued hen here recover from her reproductive ill health, you can donate over here: https://www.tamarakenneallyphotography.com/leftysplacedona/ This is a list of the prices of medications I desperately always need - 1 Suprelorin 6 month implant $152 1 100ml bottle of Meloxicom 100ml $108.80 1 100ml bottle Metacam 20 - $193.80 (this is sheep pain relief) Also, thank you to those of you who donated overnight! You will help me buy feed today. Thank you so much! <3

08.01.2022 Peaches, Edie and Sherbet experience the long wait for the gate to be opened.

07.01.2022 Good morning from The Three Little Musketeers.

07.01.2022 This morning was so beautiful here at LP. Throw in an almost three year old magnificent mare and it was picture perfect. Pictured - Ruby.

06.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - Today’s hate face is proudly brought to you by Banjo. One bottom crutched and one bad fringe cut and I am the devil. Photo Two - Mr Biddle, Dragon (aka Knives Chau) and Ghecko moved in on Sunday. They were all rescued from Dandenong poultry auction in 2016 and Dragon and Ghecko are Kek Kek’s sisters.... Photo Three - Two new girls via Melbourne Chicken Rescue are settling in, but taking a while to tell me their new names. Photo Four - Kevin walking the plank.

06.01.2022 Today's Lefty's Place News - brought to you today by Bobby Bob Bob. Photo One - Bob was pretty busy this morning licking this bag. Photo Two - Bob was pretty busy early this arvo giving me stink eye over her computer screen.... Photo Three - Bob was pretty busy working on her computer late this arvo. Lots of chicken business to attend to. (this computer is one of my old dead computers and it's all hers now, so she can do what she likes with it - and she does). Photo Four - Nighty night from Bobby Bob Bob. It was a huge day of pretty tough work for Bob.

04.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! The sheep just wanted to say - SHEEP RULZ 4EVA! Photo One - Banjo. Rescued from the side of the Hume Highway as a newborn, 2015.... Photo Two - Reggie. Rejected by his mother in 2019, this little orphan tested my patience big time as a lamb. I used to call him Please Stop Screaming. Photo Three - Greedy. Rescued as a newborn, freezing to death in a paddock in 2013. Photo Four - Pancho. Pancho was rescued from the Bacchus Marsh abattoir on the eve of Australia Day, 2013.

04.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - Screamer owns the look of hate for today. Fringe and bottom trim coming up. Life’s hard for sheep here. Photo Two - The Love Coop has not progressed at all, in fact it’s got sillier.... Photo Three - We have a new fence up and Kevin was the first sheep through the gate today. Photo Four - Kevin checks on Screamer even after her new haircut.

03.01.2022 Kek Kek in protest!

02.01.2022 Today’s Lefty’s Place News! Photo One - I was up at 5.30am and did my coops, medicated everyone, tended to the horses, walked the dogs and took some photos. I got back inside at 7am and she was still in bed and was disgusted with me for disturbing her sleep in. Bobby Bob Bob. Photo Two - Pom Pom spam!... Photo Three - Beautiful chestnut mare spam! Photo Four - Dragon and Gecko are spending the first night back together since they arrived. Gecko has been too unwell to be outside in the cold night, but tonight is quite nice and the sisters are back together.

01.01.2022 Pringle and Tea Bag are new here and Pringle wasn’t expecting the stalker to rush the fence like he did and Tea Bag had no idea what was going on!

01.01.2022 Kino and Twinkle Toes. Sisters who are always together. These two look out for each other. They do everything together. Sometimes they squabble and sometimes their fights carry on in to the next morning, but at the end of the day, Kino is always there to protect Twinkle Toes and vice versa. Chickens have families, have friends and have enemies just like we do. We aren't so different really.
