03.01.2022 This lady won’t need to climb her kitchen bench to change the globes anymore! These LED downlights last for years. Check our post on why LED is so much better for your house

02.01.2022 Your home gets older every year, and so does your electrical system. Electrical safety at home is important, so we prepared this quick checklist to help you prevent and protect your home and family from any electrical hazards. Outlets & switches: if they are warm, discoloured or you hear a buzzing or see a spark, an unsafe wiring condition might be the reason. Call your electrician. Cords: Make sure all electrical cords and wires are not damaged or frayed and are not runni...ng under a rug or furniture. All this represents a fire hazard. Your cords shouldn’t be more than 10 years old as well. Blown fuses / tripped breakers: Frequently blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers are a sign that there are electrical system issues. Contact your electrician. Wattage of bulbs: Make sure the bulbs in your lights match what is safe for your lamps, there should be a sticker with the maximum wattage. All bulbs should have a globe around them for protection- they can get very hot and cause a fire. Switchboard: Test your safety switch. If you are unsure, send a photo of the switch board to your electrician, we are happy to help. Smoke alarms: Check the placement of the smoke alarms and test each one of them, clean and replace the battery. Flickering / dimming lights: If lights are flickering, it could be the sign of a bigger issue. Call your qualified electrician. Power boards: Plug only one heat-producing appliance in each outlet to prevent the wiring from overheating. Electric outlets shouldn’t be overloaded with plugs. It is not safe to use the power boards as a permanent wiring. Call your electrician to install the correct outlets. Downlights: It’s time to upgrade to LED, if you still have the old halogen globes, you should check inside the roof that all the down lights are clear of dust, insulation or timbers.
