14.01.2022 Today our Acting CEO, Nicky Davies, Acting Senior Director, Legal Practice, Peter Delibaltas, and our Senior Policy Officer, Margaret Hornagold, attended the Annual NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony at the QEII Courts of Law Forecourt on George Street. Speakers included The Honourable Yvette D’Ath MP, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Leader of the House as well as Uncle Les Malezer and Kristal West (grand-daughter of the late Eddie Mabo). 11.01.2022 Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and it also marks the first day of UNHCR’s UNiTE campaign - 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, which finishes on 10 December, Human Rights Day. UNHCR reports this year’s COVID pandemic has seen an alarming increase of domestic and family violence as everyone has retreated indoors and this year’s theme is "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!" It's an opportunity for us all to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against and girls. #orangetheworld #16days #legalaid

10.01.2022 Due to the greater-Brisbane Covid-19 lockdown, our Caboolture, Inala and Woodridge office front counters have closed to the public and our Brisbane and Ipswich office front counters will close early today (8 January 2021). Our specialist youth lawyers will give you free, confidential legal advice about your legal rights, bail, diversionary options, getting legal representation, being charged with an offence, applying for legal aid, concerns about talking to police and other youth justice issues. Call us 7 days a week: - Monday to Thursday 8am to 9pm - Friday 8am to Sunday 5pm (except for Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day).
