24.01.2022 HAPPY NAIDOC 2020. Always was, Always will be! NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community throughout WA.... We start the week with the beautiful official NAIDOC poster, 'Shape of Land' (from Naidoc.org.au) created by Perth based artist, Tryrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. In Tryrown's words: "The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time always was, and always will be Aboriginal land".

16.01.2022 Today we acknowledge the Transgender Day of Remembrance and honour the memory of transgender people lost to acts of discriminatory violence. Legal Aid WA aims to provide support and safety to all people, regardless of where they fall on the gender and sexual orientation spectrums. Our family and domestic violence teams help people get legal and social means of protection. Our social support workers help link people into valuable support groups and programs. And our civil tea...m can advise victims on how to apply for criminal injuries compensation. Gender and sexual orientation are not a barrier to accessing justice and we urge those in need to come forward. For more about how we can help see: https://www.legalaid.wa.gov.au/get-legal-help"

05.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day. It's an opportunity to pause and honour our service personel, our veterans and their families, and to stand beside them and say thank you for your service. We pay our respects to fallen Australians who have given their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we will remember them. Lest we forget
