24.01.2022 Did you know that Jiu-jitsu brings benefits to the heart? BJJ is a great way to raise your heart rate, which strengthens the heart. The heart is a muscle that needs to be worked for the body to perform better. Jiu Jitsu also lowers your blood pressure. High blood pressure is the leading cause of heart disease and by making your heart stronger it allows your heart to pump more, lowering the overall pressure. As stated previously, Jiu Jitsu can help you shed weight, which in turn lowers the bad cholesterol in your bloodstream. Since the bad cholesterol is less present, it makes it even easier for your heart to work properly. Tag your friends and let them know more about BJJ benefits #bjjsavedmylife

15.01.2022 If you are planning to compete we have got important tips for you : . Make sure that you arrive at the venue 2 hours prior to your fight schedule. Google the place on the day before and see how much time youll need to get there and parking options. . Your Gear: Having a IBJJF legal GI is mandatory. Check with your coach to make sure your GI meets the requirements. Your gi cant be worn out, have holes in it etc and must look clean. Your belt needs to have a black bar ...at the end, even white belts need this. you must wear underwear of some sort. Guys cant wear a rash guard under your GI, No Shoes, but you will need shoes or sandals to wear to the edge of the mat and toilet. Dont take your GI off until you are out of the competition area. They can and will disqualify you if you do this. Also having your team patches is a way not only to support your team but also its another option for the referee to identify you . Technology makes things better. At the AFBJJ tournaments, there are monitors that are updated with the changing schedule and what mat you are going to be on. This is a huge advantage. You can plan your meals for the day. Complete your warm-up. You can also let your coach know which mat and what time you will be competing. This is a huge advantage, make sure youre using it. Access smoothcomp.com . Bring plenty of water and some light and healthy snacks. Everyone is different and food can affect your performance. The comp will be busy and the schedule may change, keep an eye on it thru smoothcomp.com . The Warm-Up: We would encourage you to try to max out your Heart for a few seconds. A couple ways to do this are sprints, running stairs, jump squats. Whatever it is that will bring your heart rate up. And then bring it all the way back to a resting heart rate before you step on the mat. This way you are way less probability of getting hurt . Do you have more tips to share . Have a great week everyone See you on the mats See more

15.01.2022 Do you usually tape your fingers? Here are 3 different ways to use BJJ finger tape and avoid injury 1X-Taping - It provides great support while allowing the fingers as much mobility as possible. It is very durable and much tighter than single joint taping. The X pattern allows the wrapping to support itself along with the fingers. The X-taping pattern requires long pieces of tape, which is what must be considered when choosing a tape. The wrap starts on the side of a knuck...le and after a couple of circles around it goes on to the other side crossing over the palm side of the joint. After a few more circles it goes back forming the X 2Тhe Buddy System - Buddy taping is the best method to support really bad finger joints. It can be used with both single joint control, or X-taping as the base. In simple terms, the buddy system means you tape two of your fingers to one another. This provides extra support, much like a sling does for a broken bone. Despite being the preferred method for competitors, this is the safest method to use for rolling as well. The small finger is a great example of a disaster waiting to happen. It gets caught inside a sleeve or pants so often that it can get really painful really fast 3Restrictive Taping - This method is great to tightly immobilize fingers. It’s intended to allow injured fingers to heal, rather than provide both support and mobility for chronically hurt ones. The problem with immobilizing only one finger or toe is that it makes it easier to get caught in a Gi. The best advice is to stay off the mats until the pain subsides and then use x-taping and/or the buddy system. If you’re intent on training with a fresh injury, though, your best bet is to use restrictive taping and enforce it with the buddy system. Layers are more important than single strips, but do not overtighten the tape. If you restrict circulation you’ll only make things worse, so provide support without cutting blood flow off Leave your comments if this post was helpful for you . #legion13cannington #legion13perth #legion13family . 14.01.2022 Do you like X-Guard The X Guard is one of the most popular guards in Jiu Jitsu today. There are several reasons that make the X guard an incredible option for the open guard player. It has incredible sweeping power, and it is one of the best guards to play for attacking the lower body. The X guard was popularized by Marcelo Garcia who utilized its effectiveness in the highest level competition.... The benefits of the X guard include how functional it is in both gi and nogi, the high percentage sweep success, leg lock attacks, and the defense. There are a few submissions that may present themselves from X guard, but at the highest levels of competition, it is rare to see them. . 09.01.2022 How important is Jiu-Jitsu for teenagers? Jiu-Jitsu is an activity that has so much to offer, and has long lasting benefits. It is not just an activity like your organized sports. It is much more than that. It is a change of mindset, and a lifestyle. It evolves as you evolve, and just when you think it has nothing to offer your teen, some other personal skill just seems to start improving within them. It is amazing to see, and it is life changing. It Keeps Them Active ,... and away from the TVs and phones, and give them something constructive to do. It Makes them Social - BJJ clubs is also a social environment. When teens train jiu-jitsu, it places them into a community with a common goal, and interest. So, there isnt a struggle, and an awkward grasp for a topic of conversation. You talk about your moves, and your jiu-jitsu. And this helps teens tremendously with their confidence and social abilities in their young lives. It Gives them something to learn and work on - You have to work hard in BJJ and spend the time on the mats. And this is a great skill to develop early in their lives. Give them something that they cannot cheat. Something that gives them a great reward but also makes them keep after it to achieve. This will radiate throughout their lives, from school, to other sports, to friendships. It will teach them that everything isnt easy, and there isnt always a go-around. And hard work and discipline are what it takes to achieve great things It empowers them with the knowledge of self-defense, which is very useful for life If youre a teenager or if you have a teenager at home dont hesitate to give BJJ a go, its never late to start . #legion13family #legion13perth #legion13cannington

07.01.2022 Having your child compete at a young age is a great way to not only build Jiu Jitsu skills but also to develop personal skills such as character, sportsmanship, and confidence. Below is a list of 3 things we think are important for you and your kid before the tournament : Consistency:... Its important to stay consistent leading up to the competition. Have your child get as much practice, and attend as many classes as possible in the weeks leading up to the tournament. This will ensure that your child feels confident in their abilities, so they can go out there and do their best. Its not about you, its about them: Dont put pressure on them to win. Let them go out there and just fight hard. The best thing you can do as the parent is to be supportive, and leave the coaching to their instructor. The tournament should be a positive experience, and a chance to learn and improve. Its not just about the medal, its about the experience. Keep it fun: How do you keep any kid interested in anything? You need to keep it fun and exciting for them. This needs to be a joint effort for you and your childs coach. While they are training hard for competition, take time to make sure they are enjoying the class. During the tournament make sure they are having a good time, win or lose. After the tournament, take them out for a treat. The best way to keep kids engaged and always wanting more is to end every experience on a high note, whether its a fun game of dodge ball after practice or team pizza and ice cream after a long days tournament. Did these tips help you? If you have any more tips feel free to share them in the comments
