04.01.2022 HISTORY OF LEICHHARDT ENCAMPMENT PRECEPTORY, No 18: The first Regular Meeting of Leichhardt Encampment Preceptory, No 18, was held in the Freemason’s Hall, Simpson Street, Mt Isa, Queensland, AUSTRALIA, on Friday, 9 November, 1990.The Degree work for that evening was an exemplification of the Installation of a Brother as a Knight of the Temple. The Preceptory was probably unique in Knight Templar Masonry as it worked the English Degree of Knight of the Temple but the Scottish... Grade of Knight of Malta. Quite distinctly different! Mt Isa is situated in North West Queensland, AUSTRALIA, was and still is very much an industrial city. It is believed that the majority of Brother Knights were employed by Mt Isa Mines. The downsizing of employees by Mt Isa Mines resulted in the loss of a significant number of valuable Leichhardt Encampment Preceptory Members. The consequence of this was that, at a special meeting of the Preceptory on 27 March, 1994, a decision was made to place the Preceptory in dormancy. In 2009, with the approval of Grand Master’s Council, the decision was made to restart Leichhardt Encampment Preceptory, No18, as a Scottish only working Preceptory. The Grand Master and his Officers opened Leichhardt Encampment Preceptory, No 18, a Past Grand Master was proclaimed as Venerable Preceptor and the Officers invested in traditional Scottish form. This meeting took place on Wednesday, 5 August, 2009, at the Masonic Centre at Sherwood in Brisbane, Queensland. With the closure of this Masonic Centre, the Preceptory has now relocated to the Masonic Centre in Ipswich. In 2015, Leichhardt Encampment Preceptory, No 18, is celebrating 10 years of Scottish Knight Templar Masonry. Happy Birthday! See more
