22.01.2022 As South Australia heads back into lockdown, and other states take extra COVID-19 precautionary measures, we know this may be a difficult time for many. Earlier this year, Diabetes Australia launched the Be Healthy campaign to help people manage different aspects of their physical and emotional health during the pandemic. Working with healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes, we developed a number of helpful resources, from mental health support to easy and fu...n ways to stay active while at home. You can check out the available resources here: https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/living-with-diabetes// Our helpline is also available on 1800 637 700 . Give us a call and speak to one of our healthcare professionals. We will get through this together, just like we have been, as a community.

07.01.2022 Lions Clubs International Foundation proud to support Lions National Resource Centre for Eye Health. Below Story of how Crucial support is needed.... Bibiane suffers in isolation with cataract blindness. As a respected elder and the matriarch of her family, she should be enjoying time with her grandchildren and her community. Instead she is completely dependent on her grandson to lead her around for even the most basic daily activities like going to the toilet or getting to the river for a bath. But Bibiane’s condition is completely curable. The problem is that there are not enough eye doctors in Papua New Guinea. For a population of 7.2 million people there are only 9 eye doctors. As a result people like Bibiane have been living with blindness for years. The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ is working to change this. From its clinic in Madang, The Foundation is training local eye doctors and nurses to help people like Bibiane.

04.01.2022 Dr Barry Kirby AO was a 40-year-old carpenter working in Papua New Guinea (PNG), when he witnessed a traumatic incident that resulted in the death of a woman in labour. This life-changing incident was the moment he decided that PNG needed more doctors than carpenters. He enrolled in study at Griffith University and upon completion, returned to PNG to implement his learnings, making him an unlikely hero in a landscape of overburdened and unsupported PNG health workers. In 2011... he went on to establish the not-for-profit organisation 'The Hands of Rescue' (THOR).The foundation’s focus is on achieving safe motherhood for women in PNG. Their mission is to reduce maternal mortality throughout the Milne Bay Province and the wider PNG community. Barry also provides extra staff training, drug supplies, equipment and a bonus for local health workers - 20 kina ($9) for every baby delivered above the previous year's average. See more
