24.01.2022 The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

17.01.2022 Police have renewed an appeal for public assistance as investigations continue into a public place shooting in Balmain East in August 2019. About 9pm on Thursda...y 29 August 2019, police were called to Pearson Street, following reports of shots fired. Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries under Strike Force Bemix. At the time, witnesses reported hearing gun shots before a white hatchback was seen speeding off after hitting a parked vehicle. Two men were also seen running from the scene. A white Hyundai Accent hatchback was recovered on The Terrace, Birchgrove, the following day (Friday 30August 2019). The vehicle had bullet holes in the passenger side and crash damage. Following a forensic examination, blood was also found inside. As inquiries continue, strike force investigators have released CCTV vision of a red Mazda seen driving in the area shortly before the shooting. Police are continuing to seek assistance to identify a man seen loitering in a nearby underground car park, who may be able to assist with their inquiries. The man depicted is described as being of medium build, with short dark hair. He is shown wearing black clothing, black shoes and carrying a shoulder bag. Police are also appealing for any witnesses or any person with information relating to the occupants of the red Mazda to contact Balmain Police Station on (02) 9556 0624 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. You would need to be able to prove it's your ring by giving us details of the ring and/or photos of you wearing it, when and where you lost it.
