16.01.2022 So when is the Uptick now? Back in March the general consensus was the impact of Covid-19 might be 6 months before we got to the other side. Now July, much of the world is still deep in the so called wave and in Victoria we may well be having a second! If this means a slow down or worse for your business, then I recommend you do some "planning by doing" so the time spent is valuable for when things do improve....and they will! 14.01.2022 Worry those things in Your control I cannot develop a vaccine nor can I influence the Dow Jones, the $A, solve world poverty or stop people texting while driving (or walking or running or cycling too close in the park these days!!). Some of the best advice I have received is worry those things in your control as this will reduce the worry for those things outside of your control.... From a business point of view those things in your control are things like visualising the other side of this massive disruption. Choosing to now review and adjust aspects of your business that could be in better shape for when the Uptick comes. It is clearly business as UNusual so do not expect that your Proposition will fit our new abnormal. 12.01.2022 The perception about Planning is that it will be a waste of time as they are complex, time consuming and theoretical and I have too much work to do in any case! The reality is that you do not know where you are going or whether the direction is the right one in the first place unless you step back and remind yourself what you are in this for and what problem am I solving for others. Everything flows from this start point.

Time to respond not just rotate the worry beads.... Here are some thoughts: - Staff: o Lead by communicating with them, do not go radio silent. o Put yourself in their shoes and know what they will ask then: Brain storm other forms of client nurture (ask how they are and how you can help) and acquisition that responds to lower foot traffic. Think about clients/customers being at home or isolated so how to ramp up on line sales and marketing, do not discount, add extra value Think about other tasks that Staff can do now, if sales related work has fallen Think about rostering Leave without Pay or lower pay for a period (but has to be voluntary not forced) - Tax: o Check the relief now available for PAYG withholding tax up to $25k in the June Q o Stay alert to potential relief for BAS-GST payments coming - Bank/landlords: o Seek 3 months relief on repayments now o Seek 3 months relief on rent even if a % of the rent - Get help to Scenario a Cash Flow projection to align your planning/activity to, so reduced income and expenses are at least matched to your cash resources/overdraft - Tap your network and road test ideas, everyone is in the same boat and will welcome the contact and interaction and sharing - One step at a time and concentrate on those things in your control See more

Networking tip- Make sure you arrive early to events, and rather than checking your phone or going to the bathroom, talk to the organisers and find out who is coming and who they can introduce you to.
07.01.2022 Have I told you the story of David? David has to wear many hats He has been running his business for over four years now. He left corporate world when he had the chance of a redundancy package and grabbed it with open arms, deciding that working for himself was a much better option. ... It has been quite a journey! The first year David was very busy. He had plenty to learn as he set up his home office and was responsible for every day to day administrative task. If the printer had ran out of ink, or there were invoices to send out, he learnt it was all up to him. Very little income came in that first year, but he was not worried. He needed to establish himself. Register a business name, create a business plan, get advise from an accountant, organise business cards, printing, a website and arrange a LinkedIn Profile. In fact, he found the list went on and on. Everyday he faced a new challenge. David found working from home, made him feel quite isolated. Sometimes, he had no idea how to find the help he needed. He knew he needed to generate leads. He had heard he should write a blog and create a funnel, but had no idea how to go about it. He had never used used social media for business. He felt like a duck out of water, even though he had held a responsible job as a Senior Executive. Now there were so many hats to wear....
