25.01.2022 Japan. Do it. https://www.couriermail.com.au//9d13d4a896a78725898fe4b9cd

24.01.2022 Take a walk on the frontline with COVID-19 nurse and mum Sam Gray. You think you've been living with restrictions.

24.01.2022 Beechmont in the Scenic Rim, just in from the Gold Coast, is one of the prettiest little mountain hamlets you'll ever visit. After a couple of months' good rain, most of it is back to its picturesque self - so, so green and lush. Six months ago, it was so, so dry. It was one of the first districts in Australia to lose houses - and much of the historic Binna Burra Lodge - to bushfires in an unprecedented season. This Saturday, in QWeekend, I meet some of those who helped fight... the fire, lost houses and are still dealing with the trauma and the rebuilding. What can you do? Go and visit, book a B&B, have a meal at the Headmasters Cafe or the Flying Bean Cafe. And think deeply about climate change and what you want your politicians to do about it. (In The Courier-Mail tomorrow or read it now online. Subscription required). Binna Burra Lodge Headmasters Café QCWA Beechmountain https://www.couriermail.com.au//fec88f685899326ca00d04ff32

21.01.2022 COVID-19 has meant tough times for producers - but we can help. Just eat! With export markets and restaurant trade down, specialty producers look to domestic kitchens to take their gourmet delights. 20.01.2022 If you have lungs, you can get lung cancer, just as if you have breasts, you can get breast cancer. Sam Bladwell has never smoked but was diagnosed at 36, when 30 weeks pregnant. The incidence is rising in young, female never smokers. Yet funding for research is abysmal compared with other cancers. The stigma of it being a smoker's disease is so strong...as though people with a smoking addiction are lesser and don't deserve help...and the non smokers who get lung cancer are bundled in with them. End the stigma, support the research!Lung Foundation Australia Lung Cancer Network - Lung Foundation Australia Cancer Council Australia Lung Cancer and Caregivers Support Group Lung Cancer Research Foundation

18.01.2022 Here's the link to my piece on Joanne Connor and her incredible Bohemian Rhapsody love affair. Bohemian Rhapsody - The Movie & More Guinness World Records

15.01.2022 We talk about "puppy farms" and our minds, logically, go to the cute little pups. But those fellas get out of the farms early and begin a good life, mostly. It's the mothers that stay, caged, unsocialised, treated like chattels made only to breed, that are the real victims. RSPCA Qld let me and photographer, Mark Cranitch, go on a raid and follow the rehabilitation and rehoming of some of the dogs. Meet Gracie, Molly, Lexi, Scout and Cleo.

14.01.2022 Spent a bit of time at UQ looking into the Hong Kong/China protests on the campus and the funding conundrum facing unis. It's a complex world these students have to navigate. Inside the Hong Kong protests at UQhttps://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/qweekend/state-of-hong-kong-matters-at-queenslands-sandstone-campus/news-story/4666084fbd707094a4171d6c459db06f

13.01.2022 Straddie. Go once, you'll go again. Its natural beauty is compelling...and the politics are pretty intriguing as well. Take a look at what's afoot on Straddie as the local Aboriginal people who have lived here for 20,000 years reassert their right to guide its future. https://www.couriermail.com.au//c7698afc40f5024eec28fb4d26

11.01.2022 And the sun sets on another day at the magnificent O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. Some people think the fires reached here...they didn't So come on up and get the Scenic Rim pumping.

11.01.2022 I remember splitting off into our denominations for religious instruction...Cattleticks, Presbuttons and Lunatics all teasing each other about..well, I don't think we really knew. Long time ago now and I was surprised to learn while writing this feature on RI in state schools how organised the teaching of RI (at least Christian teaching ) is nowadays. And that kids who don't do RI can't be taught new curriculum work while their mates learn scripture. Time for a change? Some active parents think so. https://www.facebook.com/1443949422533019/posts/2297602953834324/

11.01.2022 I sat in the lounge room filled with pictures of Joshua Tam as his grieving mum and dad, Julie and John, told of their love for him and their hope for change in the way drug use is discussed and policed. Josh died late last year after an MDMA overdose at a music festival. He was much loved and a good bloke. After reading research and talking to experts, the Tams have changed their minds on a lot of issues since Joshua died: on drug checking/pill testing, drug education, decriminalisation. They want other parents to be more informed in the hope no other family will experience their pain. https://www.couriermail.com.au//9620aff53123c325e4862483b5

10.01.2022 Talk about tenacity. Running has never been my thing but spend a bit of time with Jacqui Bell and you start looking for the joggers. Quite an amazing quarter of a century she's marked up. From African deserts to Antarctica...she's run them all.

10.01.2022 Started this story before Covid-19 became a crisis here. Doesn't mean the issues have changed for these young men. In fact, with the virus' impact on the respiratory system, it's just got more relevant.

09.01.2022 She's off and dancing again! Bohemian Rhapsody is back in Queensland cinemas for a week and Guinness World Records holder Joanne Connor is queuing up to see the film she's officially seen 108 times. No wait...make that 109. Or 110. Don't stop her now, she's having such a good time. She's having a ball. Bohemian Rhapsody - The Movie & More https://www.couriermail.com.au//b7eef358fcc150ac36e76ac30c

08.01.2022 Something light and cute...we all need that. Out and about with our sweet dog, Alfie. And top shots of our mini mutt model by Mark Cranitch.

07.01.2022 Met this guy, Daniel Keighran, a couple of times in the writing of this story. Top bloke, down-to-earth. What a story he has to tell! From his tough upbringing (in my childhood neck of the woods), to Iraq, to Afghanistan, to his unbelievable actions in the Battle of Derapet that saw him bestowed the Victoria Cross. We'll hear more about Keighran in the future, I'm sure. His book, Courage Under Fire, with @tonyparkauthor out this week. @6RARAssociation @Grunts-Australia https://bit.ly/2TkPGVp

06.01.2022 Talk about stepping up to the plate. My friend and colleague Leanne Edmistone explores the world of kinship carers: people, often young, who look after siblings or young relatives when their parents can't. Nicely done, Leanne, on a tough subject.

06.01.2022 There's Greek myth, Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Superman, poetry and a whole lot of soul in the Brisbane Festival shows, Orpheus & Eurydice. Still showing. Go and get coloured in by Yorkshire's Flanagan Collective and Gobbledigook Theatre https://www.couriermail.com.au//4d7797a94450928f389520c75c

04.01.2022 Pill testing? Julie and John Tam thought it was just a green light to drug use. Then their son with the winning smile died of an MDMA overdose at a music festival. They researched and have changed their minds. Their love for Joshua and hope for change is in QWeekend tomorrow. It might alter your thinking.

04.01.2022 https://blogs.scientificamerican.com//australias-angry-su/ The author of this is an investigator at the ARC Center of Excellence for Climate Extremes and an associate professor at the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University. Reckon she might know a thing or two about the topic. Like, studied it and all. The nub: "Climate change is making Australian wildfires larger and more frequent because of its effects on dryness and fire weather."

03.01.2022 These pix will make you want to grab a board and get your inner Gidget out. Being a surfing photographer takes a heck of a lot of stamina...but the results! The exhibition is on at the Gold Coast, which hosts the Global Wave Conference this month. https://www.couriermail.com.au//f73e3891fcc89dbd633b48abea

02.01.2022 He's been a familiar face on Queenslanders' screens since the pandemic began, recently squaring off with PM Scott Morrison and NSW over border issues. But who is Deputy Premier and Health Minister Steven Miles and what makes him tick?

01.01.2022 Sat here for a while trying to write something more about this story for this post. Nothing more to say. Please read it - and show it to the teenagers in your life. https://www.couriermail.com.au//8c1b5e92f7fb57a62dab3f32ab

01.01.2022 Joanne Connor is a woman who knows what she likes. Grab a copy of Qweekend to learn more about her epic Guinness World Record viewing of Bohemian Rhapsody. She's a fun lady.
