23.01.2022 Tip of the day... If your stabiliser level is too high (UV against the sun) in a pool it will lock the chlorine molecules rendering them less effective as a sanitiser. This usually happens as a result of using chlorine tablets which contain cyanauric acid. Pools that sanitise the water using salt systems or other methods other than tablets usually don't have this problem. Although you will get a chlorine reading, sometimes a high chlorine reading, yet your pool has algae or ...other problems, i.e. dullness etc. This is because the chlorine molecules are nearly useless due to being locked up from the high cyanuaric acid level. Sadly, you can not add chemicals to lower stabiliser. Cyanauric acid (stabiliser) can be added, but in order to lower it, the pool needs to be diluted with fresh water and none of us like to waste water of course! You will need to take out about 3 foot (or 1m) of water, if you have a reading of over 100ppm and the best way is to use a submersible to syphon the water straight out as otherwise the pump will be sucking in air when it goes past the skimmer line.
