23.01.2022 Congratulations to all our students who represented our school at today's rescheduled Interschool carnival. It was Lenah Valley's first time in Division A and we managed to finish in fourth position thanks to some outstanding athletic performances by our students. Thanks to Mr Gregg for his organisation and our parent helpers!

22.01.2022 5P went all out in their 'Devil's Diner' this week. On the menu was a vertical potato bake with garden salad and focaccia, followed by chocolate self saucing pudding for dessert. Year fives managed to pick and sell a huge amount of produce and pot some pumpkin seeds to plant in the coming weeks. They also squeezed in some chocolate biscuit batches to take home to share! We're still after any small plastic pots for seedling planting if you have some lying around at home. They ...can be left at the office for one of the kitchen garden team to collect. 21.01.2022 Good afternoon, At 12:00 today we had a fire drill. It was purely for us to practise students moving quickly and calmly out the school buildings and lining up in class groups for an attendance check on the oval. Whilst this occurs, staff (who do not have responsibility for class groups) are double checking all classrooms, toilets, library etc. Students are aware that it was purely a practise, but I wanted to inform the school community in case students speak about it this afternoon. We are incredibly proud of the efficient and safe manner in which all students and staff moved to the oval. Please do not hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher or myself, if you have any questions about the process. Kind regards, Jennifer Poynter
20.01.2022 Good afternoon, At 10:00 today we had a ‘lock down drill’. It was purely for us to practise teachers completing a thorough attendance, locking doors and windows, closing blinds and students moving to the safest place in the room to sit quietly. Whilst this occurs, staff (who do not have responsibility for class groups) are locking all external doors, manning phones to ensure the admin team confirm that every student and staff member is in a safe location and accounted for. St...udents are aware that it was purely a practise, but I wanted to inform the school community in case students speak about it this afternoon. The language we use about the reason for any lockdown is ‘the conditions outside are unsafe’. Lockdowns may be required for a variety reasons, including strong winds, insect swarms etc. Please do not hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher or myself, if you have any questions about the process. Kind regards, Jennifer Poynter
20.01.2022 Canteen help required Can you help in the canteen tomorrow or Friday? A Working With Vulnerable People Card is required. Please reply to this post with times if you are available. Thank you in advance.
20.01.2022 Good morning, The roadworks on Creek Road are making things more challenging for pedestrians and motorists. Crossing Creek Road with the crossing guard near the school or crossing Wilkes Road with the duty teacher is the safest way for students to walk down either side of Creek Road. We will stress this at school this morning and it would be appreciated if you could reinforce this at home. Student safety is so important. With many thanks and kind regards,... Jennifer Poynter
19.01.2022 Our K-2 enjoyed a fantastic 'Run for Fun' carnival today. There were lots of smiles and everyone tried their best. Big thank you to our Year 6 Leaders and Mr Gregg for organising and running a great carnival.
19.01.2022 Good morning It has just been reported to us, that after school yesterday, one of our students was near the milk factory and was approached and then followed by a man they did not know. This is being investigated by the police. If we hear further details we will let you know straight away. ... Kind regards, Jennifer

16.01.2022 LVPS COVID 19 Safety Plan Reminder: Keeping the length of time adults are on-site to a minimum is an important aspect of our COVID 19 Safety Plan. In line with this, please remember to drop-off and collect students promptly at the start and end of the school day. At this stage we are still not able to allow families to use our facilities for after-school play. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
15.01.2022 This week we had 1W in their instant restaurant the 'Cool Cocoa Cafe'. The theme of cocoa certainly left an imprint with students after a minor disaster with a container of cocoa that took a dive from the kitchen bench! Luckily we had enough to continue with our menu of baked potatoes, herbed bread rolls and chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert! Many flowers and carrots were picked, sunflower seeds were planted ready to take home now that the sun is making more of an app...earance. They will require some water and a warm sunny spot to grow until they're ready to be planted! Thanks to 1W and our Year 5 masterchefs for a fantastic day of mishaps, laughter and amazing food! We are hoping to have some plants and vegetables on sale each Tuesday afternoon in the coming weeks, so bring your spare change and grab some fresh produce at a very cheap price. We're also asking for donations of small pots if you have any lying around at home. Please leave any donations at the office. Ali Holmes Kitchen Garden Coordinator

11.01.2022 Reminder: K-2 Fun for Fun Carnival 9:30am 1pm (Kinder 9:30am 11am) The forecast for tomorrow is for very hot weather. Please make sure you apply sunscreen to your children in the morning prior to dropping them off. We will have plenty for reapplication at morning tea time as required. If possible, sending your children in their team colours makes for a great atmosphere and gives students lots of people to cheer, when they aren’t in a race! A t-shirt, shorts, face paint... and ribbons are all example of ways you can do this. Unfortunately, we are still not able to have spectators to these events. 10.01.2022 Yesterday we had 2C with their restaurant 'Chapman's Chomps'. They were outstanding! Even our senior staff and administration staff were able to attend the restaurant to enjoy the very impressive menu. Arancini Balls with marinara sauce, salad and herb rolls followed by a Stephanie Alexander lemon tart. A delicious lunch for our final week at school. Today we also farewell our Ogilvie High School intern Stella K. She is a former student of LVPS and has been an amazing additi...on to our team. Thank you Stella for your hard work, initiative, patience, cooking skills and for saving us with the washing up every week! There were many requests for the recipes today so I have added the links below and passed them on to Mrs Chapman as well. Happy holidays from the kitchen garden team! https://www.recipetineats.com/cheesy-italian-arancini-balls/ http://villiersbrown.com/lemon-tart/
10.01.2022 ‘Come in 4A Bite’ was our instant restaurant this week.can you guess which class was hard at work in the kitchen and garden? The menu consisted of handmade fettucine with a blended vegetable sauce using our own canned tomatoes, silverbeet, carrots and celery. We made focaccia again as a side and finished with a lemon tart to continue using our available produce from the garden. The 4A students and their Year 5 masterchef buddies were such hard workers and managed to achieve... a great deal in the garden as well as gaining some new skills in the kitchen. This week we welcomed back Gina to our garden crew and we’re so glad to have her back on board! Brett has completed some fantastic work to enclose our garden beds in order to prevent the possums feasting on our amazing fruit and veggies, if you haven’t had a chance to take a look more recently I’ll be sure to share some pictures of the progress in the coming weeks. 07.01.2022 Good evening, I wanted to let everyone know that we did have a student hit by a car whilst crossing Creek Road, near Gerard Street this afternoon. Thankfully, the student has only received minor injuries some grazes and cuts as the car was travelling very slow at the time of impact. Please remind students to stop, look and listen, very, very carefully when crossing roads. Where possible, please use the pedestrian crossings near the school. A sincere thank you to everyone who saw or heard of the incident and has shown concern for the student and the driver. We are so incredibly fortunate to have such a caring and respectful school community. Kind regards, Jennifer Poynter

03.01.2022 Good morning, When using the John Turnbull Oval carparks at drop off and pick up times please ensure that you park safely and legally. Yesterday, a car was parked in a manner that made it impossible for drivers exiting the carpark to see approaching pedestrians or cars. Members of the Lenah Valley community are amazingly supportive of our school on a regular basis so it is disappointing when we hear that the school has negatively impacted on them. The last few weeks of th...e school year are always an incredibly busy time for families which makes our focus on safety even more important. With kind regards, Jennifer Poynter
02.01.2022 Today has seen us enjoy our annual Musical presented by our amazing Year 3-4 Choir and our hard working and talented music teacher Mrs Linda Weston. This year’s musical, Juke Box Time Machine had us all humming along and enjoying songs from many different musical eras. What an amazing effort from our 3-4 Choir and Mrs Weston! As always, this was one of the highlights of our school year congratulations and well done to all involved!
02.01.2022 Our Grade 5 band students had a great day at yesterday's workshop. They are to be commended for their great behaviour and their promising musical skills.
02.01.2022 Grade 6 Leavers Function Please remember to return the permission slip and $20 to the school office asap if you haven’t done so already so catering can be confirmed for the Grade 6 Leavers function on Thursday 10th December 6 8 pm Queens Head Hotel function room. Thank you,... Cathryn Kelly-Bounds, Alison Featherstone, Laura Bedford and Geni Francis (Gd 6 parent organisers).
02.01.2022 5MM were our class in the kitchen this week, opening their restaurant ‘Top Notch’ for the class to enjoy. Their skills in the kitchen and ability to prepare all aspects of the restaurant lunch were certainly top notch! On the menu was a vegetable lasagne, packed with carrots and silverbeet picked fresh from the garden, focaccia bread and a chocolate rhubarb self saucing pudding. We had surplus rhubarb since Brett has built our new raised garden beds and the rhubarb required t...ransplanting once the year 5 students had filled them with a huge amount of soil from our own composting system. A hugely productive day! Ali Holmes Kitchen Garden Coordinator
01.01.2022 Grade 1/2SO excursion to Molesworth has been postponed today due to a severe weather warning. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule in Term 4.
01.01.2022 6 Cantrell’s ‘La Fresh’ was our instant café this week and the fresh part was certainly a theme. Fresh pasta cannelloni with silverbeet from the garden to mix with the pumpkin and ricotta filling. Miss Cantrell even stated that she had been sceptical about replacing the traditional spinach with this option, but was definitely sold on the idea after trying it! We topped our makeshift cannelloni rolls (an experiment in itself) with a fresh tomato based sauce using our preserve...d tomatoes and fresh herbs, adding focaccia as a side dish as always.because fresh bread is amazing. Lemon tart for dessert using our abundance of fresh lemons from the garden, encased in the shortcrust pastry these year six students whipped up and blind baked early in the session. They certainly impressed with their finishing touches of some icing sugar artwork for presentation! We even managed to sneak in a session to bake some cheeky handmade treats for Brett, who has a very special birthday this week. We are all very appreciative of the work that he does to keep our grounds and our garden, looking amazing and the students have created a very special thank you on behalf of us all.
