25.01.2022 The Beadell Family are very excited about this new product: Too Long in the Bush: The Shepparton Talk with Pictures. We have been working hard on this for many months and the day has finally arrived we can offer it for advanced sales from lenbeadell.com.au/shop or follow the direct link at the bottom of this post. Len's well known 'The Shepparton Talk' has been reproduced in a DVD format and has now been set to pictures, by his oldest daughter Connie, many of the photographs... are from the family collection and never before published. The photographs, depicting the story as being told by Len, scroll through to enhance the story and give greater understanding of Len's experiences during his time in the Australian Outback. The DVD is $33 +p&h and is expected to arrive in our shop during the first week of December and it will be shipped as soon as possible after that date. However, it is not possible to guarantee it will arrive before Christmas due to the delays being experienced by Australia Post. www.lenbeadell.com.au//too-long-in-the-bush-the-shepparton

24.01.2022 Ever had trouble packing up your vehicle to go away? This is Len Beadell as a Scout in 1940 going on a surveying trip with his Scout troop (1st Burwood Scouts) to the Blue Mountains. They spent many weekends with their Scoutmaster Skip Richmond helping with his surveys - this is where Len learned surveying. On the job training at its finest!

23.01.2022 The 5,400 kilometre dog fence protects sheep industry from wild dogs and dingoes. At 2,150 kilometres long, The South Australian Dog Fence stretches from the Great Australian Bight to the New South Wales border. More than two-thirds of the South Australian Dog Fence (1,600 kilometres, red sections in map below) is over 100 years old. ... The photo below shows the section along the Anne Beadell Highway, taken 2018. The rebuild will take up to 5 years and as part of the procurement, there is a preference for South Australian businesses and Australian-made products. Holding the Line: A history of the South Australian Dog Fence Board, 19472012 by Leith Yelland, describes the history of the Dog Fence Board and was commissioned to mark the centenary of the Federation of South Australia. This history records the impact of dingos on the State's sheep industry and the measures undertaken by pastoralists and government to mitigate these impacts. 22.01.2022 More than two-thirds of the South Australian Dog Fence (1,600 kilometres) is over 100 years old. Kangaroos, emus, wombats, feral camels and wild dogs have degraded many sections. A new fence will reduce the impacts of wild dogs on South Australia’s $4.3 billion livestock industry by keeping wild dogs out of pastoral lands. 08.01.2022 We are sure many of you would have read Too Long in the Bush which was first published in 1965. Since that time it has been reprinted many times, in hard cover, leather bound, limp editions, audio book, braille and even in other languages. Too Long in the Bush remains our best seller even after all this time. Len kept the book reviews in a folder which make interesting reading in itself - these from 1965 and 1966 tell of the amazing story of Len's road building efforts throu...gh the harsh Australian deserts, the Happy Family and the story of a man who helped to make Woomera. A couple of First Edition books, including Too Long in the Bush, have been found during a clean up and were available from the online store, they are selling quickly and stocks are limited: www.lenbeadell.com.au/pre-loved-pre-owned-and-almost-perf

08.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. We recognise the contribution of all those who serve/have served and have provided support or assistance in the war and peace keeping efforts. We remember and give our gratitude and prayers for all who have fallen. Photos show Len kneeling on the right hand side with members of the Eighth Field Survey Section, Port Moresby, 1942 and in his Army uniform.... Lest we forget

05.01.2022 Supporting those who support us We can't wait to see the finished renovations!

04.01.2022 Ilkurlka partially reopens! As of 15 August 2020 Ilkurlka will reopen to travellers whose journey commences in Western Australia. This follows the relaxation of... the WA remote Aboriginal communities regulations for Ilkurlka (although restrictions remain in place for other communities). Given our limited stocks of PPE we would appreciate travellers bringing their own face masks if possible. We can supply hand sanitiser and disposable gloves at the roadhouse. The spread of COVID19 to our remote communities is still a major concern. For travellers heading from Western Australia to South Australia along the Anne Beadell Highway, permits are required in South Australia from Maralinga Tjarutja, the Woomera Defence Area, Mamungari conservation park and Tallaringa conservation park. A permit is also required for travel between Yeo and Yamarna along the Anne Beadell Highway in Western Australia. Please note that Ilkurlka will not be accessible from the east because of the WA border closure. The border is being monitored and the WA police will take action if anyone crosses the border from the east without having a permit issued by the WA government. Penalties for illegally crossing the WA border from the east are severe up to a $50,000 fine and/or twelve month’s imprisonment.

03.01.2022 Probably not ironic that this was one of the most popular posts for this year. What a curve ball this year was! This post was the purpose for this page - to celebrate Len's life and the contributions Lennie made that we all love to share in. It doesn't matter how many times we hear the story of the shady tea, pulling his socks over his boots, the flies and multiple airplane landings - we laugh every time. Thanks Lennie for the stories and the memories and to every one of our friends for sharing in them with us. We look forward to an adventurous and wonderous 2021. We love you all

02.01.2022 Both worth a visit - best wishes to the new owners

02.01.2022 Don't you love Facebook memories? 5 years ago we were setting off on a trip along the original section of the Gunbarrel Hwy
