25.01.2022 A little family group shot , one is leaving the neighbourhood .
23.01.2022 Beware of Elixir strings on eBay , these ones came with a "Made in China"sticker on the front ! Theyre actually made in USA of course , and these are fake , what's inside is cheap strings of a brownish colour with no Goretex coating . If you buy Elixirs online use a known Aussie store . The pic shows a real pack on left and fake on right .
23.01.2022 This Jim Williams made mandolin could not get a high enough action so I made a new base for the bridge . Seems the soundboard had dropped a bit with age .
22.01.2022 Thought I'd show you the process of replacing a chewed out truss rod nut on a modern USA strat . The nut is behind a ring of walnut in the headstock . You need ...to score the lacquer around it , then apply some heat to soften the glue (soldering iron) Once thats done you turn the nut anti-clockwise and as it back up , it pushes the walnut ring out , then comes the nut . Get a new nut and install by reversing the procedure . Then touch up the lacquer . Fender sell replacement rings but I didn't need it this time . See more
21.01.2022 This beauty came in for a setup , its for sale too . Look on gumtree $5,500
20.01.2022 Just a reminder about your guitar batteries , as you can see these preamps have been ruined by leaking batteries , I have replaced 5 of these in the month , and they're at least $400 each . Remove your batteries often and leave them out during storage .
17.01.2022 Guitar lovers might like to get to the Wicko Sunday from 1pm . Roy Payne will be playing his best Hillbilly Bop and Country Jazz on his custom twin neck guitar , switching between the standard guitar neck and shorter slide neck Roy is a master and has roped in a serious rhythm section , so well worth a look . It's fathers day so do what you really want to !
14.01.2022 This Maton was cracked badly , but came up ok with a little TLC .
12.01.2022 Anyone got a jazz bass bridge pickup ?
09.01.2022 Latest creation coming up alright .
05.01.2022 Here is a trap for young players , I see it every week . People buy a brand name set of strings online , happy that they got a great price . However what they get is a fake . Look at the two packs below , one has cheap ink and blurred artwork , same with the inner pack . Then look at the actual string , cheap junk with no coating ! I'm not advertising any brand here , but if you buy them online , go with a known Australian retailer and you have recourse if anything isn't right .
04.01.2022 If you don't know about reso-phonic guitars , here it is ... they have a cone made of spun aluminium , mounted in the body , the strings pass over the bridge on top so when it is strummed the cone acts like a speaker , making a loud and rather tinny sound which is cool for blues picking or slide playing , and country slide . This is a metal bodied Regal but wood bodies sound good too
02.01.2022 The dry calm weather last weekend was just right for spraying lacquer , this is a rosewood Flamenco guitar and the rosewood is looking great with a bit of nitro-cellulose lacquer.
01.01.2022 This would have to rate as the most unorthodox guitar Ive worked on , strange angles , carbon fibre soundboard , sound holes for the player , neck bolts sideways to a raised block , no bridge to speak of as strings hook under screws attached to pickup and a neck pickup also .
