25.01.2022 The first thing that struck me about this wine (apart from the variety itself) was the colour. Wow, was it intense. It was very inky and concentrated and it was actually quite fascinating, how the wine almost appeared to stain the glass while I was swirling it. Dornfelder is not a variety that I have any experience in and this wine is definitely a departure from the conventional. Its a wine for the adventurists who get a kick out of trying new things. This is worth trying ...out about for its uniqueness and individualism and its a wine that will definitely appeal to the naturalists out there. 2019 @winterbrook #dornfelder This wine shows intense blue fruits and red cherries upfront, that provide richness of flavours on entry. It transitions to a savoury aspect through the mid palate with herbs of Rosemary, slate, a mineral edge and a funky wet wool character as well. The finish has bright acidity and silky tannins. Its a #goodwine with plenty of interest from a small boutique winery #tamarvalley #tasmania Winterbrook is a small boutique producer in the Tamar Valley and they grow and make everything on the Estate. Their story began 10 years ago, when Frank and Nicole Huisman packed up their life in Amsterdam to start a new life in a 0 6 ha vineyard. Theyve expanded the vineyard since then and built a small winery and minimal intervention is their ethos Dornfelder was created through a cross breeding project in Germany in the 1950s and has become popular in both Gernany and Switzerland, but is quite a new variety here in Australia Dornfelder is only a new edition to their stable and they have also planted another little known variety called Blaufrankish as well See more

25.01.2022 This wine is a blend of Grenache 60% and Cinsault 40% and it’s from the Barossa Valley. The Barossa Valley has built a reputation for full bodied, full flavoured red wines, like the one I posted last night.. So if this is your perception of the Barossa Valley, you would definitely have many friends, but there are also many a changes happening in the Barossa, with Biodynamic and minimal intervention producers like Small Fry, playing a part of that change. The wine colour of pi...cture (no filter), certainly gives you a hint that this is far from a tradional Barossan red. 2019 @smallfry eclectic violet grenache cinsault Beautiful, inviting bright opaque red/pink colour. Its velvety and glides accross your tongue displaying lovely sour cherry and watermelon fruits. Its light bodied and very textural, with a floral rose petal note and maintains delicious juicy cherries through the mid palate. The finish really works well too, with an even balance of tangy acid and fury tannins making for a really interesting and #verygoodwine #barossavalley #southaustralia Small Fry is a partnership project of two viticulturist Suzi Hilder and Wayne Ahrens who decided to turn their fruit into wine and they describe themselves as Viticulturist bitten by the winemaking bug. The fruit is sourced from 2 well established vineyards being their own 25yo vineyard in the Eden Valley and then also sourcing from the Barossan sub region of Vine Vale with vines exceeded 50 years old. The Vineyards have been certified Biodynamic since 2014 and they take a minimal approach to wine making. They only use old oak, so not to impart any significant oak flavours, preferring instead to let the fruit be the hero of the wine and being expressive to the environment, from which the fruit has grown. They take a natural approach to winemaking which includes exclusive use of wild yeasts for fermentation, no fining or filtering and no additions to the wine that will impart or change flavour.

24.01.2022 I have to admit to being a little excited when I heard that Arras was releasing a brand new non-vintage blanc de blancs. I do love a Blanc de Blancs (and if you're not sure what that means read down further) and the vintage Arras BdB is consistently one of the best wines in Australia by any standard. So, the prospect of an NV is rather mouthwatering, because let's face it, most of us can only afford vintage bubbles on rare occasions and NV bubbles is much more affordable f...or an average wage earner. We are spoilt for choice here in Tassie when it comes to sparkling wine and the new release from one of our premium sparkling producers does not dissapoint. Its an #excellentwine which offers exceptional value for money NV #arras #blancdeblancs This wine has a lovely mouthfeel of lemon mousse with a floral twist of Jasmine, honeydewmelons and cream. It has elegance and style and has a slight savoury influence with a hint of oyster shells that really gives this wine added complexity of flavour. It then finishes with a clean citrus note, that lingers nicely as well. #multiregional #tasmania When you translate Blanc de Blancs it means "white of whites" and in the case of sparkling wine it refers to the grape varieties. The three most recognised grapes for producing premium sparkling wine (including Champagne) are the red varieties of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and the white variety of Chardonnay. In laymans terms then, blanc de blanc is produced from Chardonnay and this variety generally produces sparkling wines that are elegant and delicate styles. See more

23.01.2022 Harvested from a single 3 ha site in the Coal River Valley, located near Penna which is approximately 30 minutes from Hobart. The Parish Riesling is always made in a dry, refreshing style and contains only 1.8g of residual sugar and its wild fermented... 2018 #parishvineyard #riesling This wine is lively and fresh, in a well defined citrus and lime fruit spectrum. Theres A herbal influence of thyme and a hint of grapefruit tantalises the taste buds as well. It's minerally with a touch of Sea salts and finishes with a steely, brace of acidity. Its an #excellentwine that would be a lovely accompaniment to freshly shocked oysters or seared scallops with a fresh garden salad #coalrivervalley #tasmania This wine is a part of the reknowned Hill-Smith family vineyards, who have their base at Yalumba in the Barossa Valley. They have significant vineyard investments throughout Tasmania, starting back in 1996 when they purchased the Jansz brand. Incidentally this Riesling site is surrounded by an abundance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines and the Hill Smith family are currently building a new Jansz winery here. The Hill Smith Family have a long history in producing Riesling with one of Australia's most highly regarded wines, the Pewsey Vale Riesling being first produced by the family back in the 60s

21.01.2022 Pet Nat = Petilant Naturel. Is it the trendiest sparkling going around? Aparently so, or is it just fake news? Either way who really cares, but one thing's for sure, those that are drinking Pet Nats are loving them for their fizzy, fun gluggability. ... These two examples certainly fit the criteria. They look inviting with well defined fruity charcyeristics that make them infinitely smashable. Their organic and use wild yeast with a minimal interventionistic approach. Two approachable, #goodwines if you want to start delving into the world of natural wines 2020 @DelinquentewinecoTuff Nut #Bianco interestingly this is made from a southern Italian variety called Bianco d'Allesano which originates in Puglia and if I was asked to chose between these two wines, then I'd go with this one. It feels like drinking cloudy apple juice. Its lite and fruity with a little bit of spice and almonds and a juicy bright lime finish 2020 #delinquente weeping juan #vermentino #Nerodavola A blend of red and white varieties, which are fermented separately and then blended. Its bright and light with granny smiths, raspberries and watermelons fruits that finishes with refreshing, juicy limes. Light and easy drinking and ideal with some chill. Pet Nats are made by taking partially fermented juice, transferring it into a bottle. Its usually sealed with a crown seal and fermentation continues in the bottle. The Carbon Dioxide that is created while the fermentation continues is trapped in the bottle creating the natural bubbles

20.01.2022 There are some great value wines produced in Italy’s Puglia region, with the generosity provided by Primitivo leading the charge. If you're looking for good QPR, then this will satisfy you for sure 2017 #Tormaresca #Primitivo This has a burst of flavour on entry with dark plums and black cherries. Sweet toasty oak maintains fullness throughout with additional influences from dark chocolate, black olives and licorice. It finishes with a juicy note of spiced oranges and ev...en tannins, making for a tasty offering and overall a #verygoodwine thats very easy to drink #puglia #italy Puglia is known as the heel of Italy and it's actually the biggest wine producing region in Italy, with around 17% of Italy's output and black grapes making up 80%. Primitivo has really made its mark over the past 20 years and has become the regions most famous grape and it's loved for its full fruity character and it's an early ripening grape that tends to produce a lot of sugar. Genetically, Primitivo is the same grape as Zinfandel. I did some research on this by checking out Dr Vinny from Wine Spectator and the origin of both varieties are actually clones derived from a Croatian variety called Crljenak. See more

20.01.2022 I do so enjoy a good Grüner Veltliner and Austrian one, always piques my interest. I know there are still many people out there that aren't familiar with this variety, but if you like dry Riesling, Pinot Grigio or a fruity style Sauv Blanc, then you will probably like this wine too. 2017 @ott.at #bernhardott #amberg #grunerveltliner ... This is a dry and textural wine. The mouthfeel is quite viscous and shows off green pear flavours and jasmine flowers. It maintains a bright tight flavour through the mid palate with a mineral and Saline note, Logan berries and green tea leaf. The finish is crisp and lingers with a touch of spice making for a well balanced, complex #excellentwine #niederostereich #austria The Austrians have certainly mastered this variety and it makes up almost a third of all wine produced in this country, but you will also find a long history for Gruner Veltliner (GV) this in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The new world is also experimenting with GV as well and good examples can also be found in several US states including Oregon, Finger Lakes and Napa, Okanagan Valley in Canada and there are also several producers in the Adelaide Hills of Australia that are cresting some hype about GV. The grape variety is believed to be indigenous to Austria and its history dates back to Roman times. GV never really reached any great heights for most of its history and it wasn’t until the 1950s when a new vine trellising was used on GV that really got the best out of the variety and production and popularity boomed thereafter. Bernhard Ott is considered an icon in the production of GV. He is 4th Generation family winemakers dating back to 1889. Since taking the Reigns Bernhard has converted the 28ha of vineyards to Biodynamics with 90% being GV and the remainder, Riesling. Am Berg is sourced from a combination of younger estate vines and purchased grapes and is in the process of being classified as organic. #budburstwinecollective $27.95

19.01.2022 This is a rather delicious offering of a red wine blended with the iconic Shiraz grape and one that we more commonly associate with the northern Italian region of Piedmont. The result is a easy drinking, well constructed, medium bodied red wine. 2018 @longviewvineyard #vista #shiraz #barbera ... This is an expressive wine that features Red cherries and wild forest berries, with a spicy, slightly metalic note as well. There's a Herbal influence of marjoram and mint plus a touch of orange peel and white pepper as well. The finish has spice and moderate tannins and finishes clean and fresh. Its a #verygoodwine that's versatile in food matching because of its refined nature. #adelaidehills #southaustralia So let's delve into this blend a little more. Most people would be familiar with South Australian Shiraz, but in the case of Adelaide Hills it is classified as cool climate, especially when compared to its well known neighbours of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. The cooler conditions changes the Shiraz flavour profile to one of away from big bold flavours, to more elegant and refined styles, that are more refreshing and spicy with fine tannins. I think that this regional Shiraz character is certainly shining through in the wine. Barbera is actually Italies third most grown grape variety (behind other reds Sangiovese and Montepulciano) and its known for its bright fruit flavours, mild tannins and freshness from acidity. Once again, these qualities are evident in this wine through the forest berry fruits and the clean freshness on the finish. #budburstwinecollective $21.95

19.01.2022 The Milton property like much of Tasmanias east coast started in life as a sheep station dating back to 1826. Nowadays it's a much more diverse business that includes 19ha of vineyards and it has established itself as one of the most popular wine brands in Tasmania, with their Pinot Gris and Roses leading the charge. I visited their Cellar Door today and the wine that impressed me the most from their range was this 2010 Pinot Chardonnay. It had only recently been disgorged ...after having spent 9 years on lees, which is a time frame usually only given to top end luxury sparkling and Champagnes 2010 @miltonvineyard #chardonnay #pinotnoir This is a complex sparkling with quite generous fruit component of melons. There are mushrooms and walnuts, that really fill out the mid palate with savoury aspects and the many years spent on lees, giving additional fullness of toasty, bready flavours make this wine something rather special. The finish lingers long, with a phenolic rather than acidic character, making for a really interesting, multi layered #excellentwine and if you didn't know then you might think this was french #eastcoast #tasmania So you might wonder, why I'm putting so much emphasis on the 9 years on lees. In Sparkling wines that are made using the tradional method of Champagne, the bubbles are created naturally by adding sugar and yeast into the bottle with the base wine. A secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle and that creates carbon dioxide, which can't escape the sealed bottle and this turns the wine bubbly. At the end of the fermentation, dead yeast cells remain in the bottle and when left for an extended period of time, this creates extra flavour in the wine often described as bready, or brioche or biscuits. This is called the time on lees For Non vintage Champagne this time on lees is a minimum of 15 months and the more premium Vintage Champagne is a minimum of 3 years. It's not uncommon for the very best Champagne to go much longer, but in Champagne you are also paying $100s of Dollars for these wines. At #budburstwinecollective we are selling this wine for $49.90

19.01.2022 This is very good example of a Tasmanian Pinot Noir, which also won the trophy for the best export wine, at the Tasmanian regional show this year. The fruit is sourced from three Tasmanian sub regions, of the Derwent Valley, Tamar Valley and East Coast. 2018 #eddystonepoint #pinotnoir... Ripe red cherry fruits fill the mouth on and followed by pretty and floral characteristics. The mid palate is savoury with dried herbs of rosemary and thyme, spiced oak and orange peel. The tannins are firm and a little grainy, making for a #verygoodwine. #multiregional #tasmania This is a really interesting wine that really seems to typify a Tasmanian Pinot Noir very well. I often discuss the regional differences that make up Tasmania, which is in fact as big as Switzerland and Northern Ireland but is regarded as a single wine region. So if I was disecting this wine, the pretty floral characteristic is something that I normally associate with the Tamar Valley and the ripe cherry fruits is something that typifies the east coast. The Savoury notes and grainy tannins I find to more prominent in the South through its dryer climate and the Derwent Valley shines through in this way. #budburstwinecollective $32.95

17.01.2022 Today I had the opportunity to taste a brand new release from Spring Vale wines. It's a Chardonnay under the Melrose label, which has of course been the label for its early drinking, fruit expressive Pinot Noir that was first released in 2008, after Spring Vale purchased a neighbours property of the same name. I had a good chat with owner Tim Lyne about this wine and he said that he conducted many Premier Cru Chablis benchmark tastings to come up with a planned style for th...is wine. Tim really enjoys the lean, mineral style that is Chablis and wanted this wine to reflect an elegant, crisp chardonnay style and I think they have managed a wine, that is true to that vision. 2020 @springvalewines #Melrose #chardonnay This is a refined dry style of chardonnay. Its delicate with white nectarines and juicy limes. The mid palate is steely with a citrus twist, a hint of granny smith apples and grapefruits that leads to a crisp, mineral finish #verygoodwine #eastcoast #tasmania There are some long established farming families on Tasmania's east coast and when you come to visit and see the natural beauty of this area you can understand why generations of families have stayed on to work this land. The Lyne family at Spring Vale which is north of the township of Swansea is one of those family's. Springvale wines was established in 1986 by Rodney Lyne and his wife Lyn and their property was first settled by William Lyne in 1826. The original plantings were 0.8 hectares of Pinot Noir, but this has been expanded over the years and now the vineyard area covers 14.5ha. Rod and Lynn son Tim, joined the business in 2006 after completing his masters in both Horticulture and Business and he is now the Managing Director of the business.

15.01.2022 We all have that relative that has a sweet tooth when it comes to wine. Often it might be grandma or someone a little younger, who is in their early journey of discovering wine. Here's the perfect wine to satisfy that person this festive season. Just because there's a little sugar, doesn't mean it should be hard to drink and this is still well balanced and a well made wine made from the Prosecco grape with a little Moscato added as well. Oh yes, its rather moore-ish too if... you pimp it up with some fresh frozen blue, straw or raspberries and then to really top things off, by adding some strawberry sorbet and mint leaves on top. NV @dalzotto.wines #pucino #pink #prosecco This wine starts with a lively floral burst of white peaches and a juicy lime zing, almost like a fruit tingle. Jasmine flowers and creamy strawberries that finishes with good length. Its a #goodwine Pucino is the old word that was once the name used for Prosecco. The King Valley has a long history of producing Prosecco, and the famous Prosecco wines of Italy are made around the village of the same name. In 2009, the Prosecco Grape was renamed by the EU to Glera, because they registered Prosecco as a winemaking region. The King Valley has a long history of Italian immigrants settling here and making wine using the varieties of their homeland. Prosecco was one of those and despite the efforts of the EU since 2009, we are still using the Prosecco word as a description of the grape variety, rather than Glera. However, its probably only a matter of time that this will also change. This wine is available on the Budburst Online Wine Store for $18.00 See more

14.01.2022 Matching food and wine can be a little daunting at times. This Pinot Gris is a really well structured and versatile example that is not only nice to just drink on its own on a Sunday afternoon, but works well with a selection of foods. Smoked Salmon has always been one of my favourite matches with Pinot Gris and Garlic/Chili Prawns too. Mild Curries like Butter Chicken works well and on a more traditional note, succulent Roast Pork with Apple Sauce is pretty yummy too. 2020... #sharmans #pinotgris This is a wine a lovely balance and its showing ripe pears up front with a lovely influence of Jasmine flowers. There's good concentration of flavour throughout and a hint of Turkish delight as well, which then transitions to a dryer spectrum of minerals and limes, with spicy freshness to finish. Its an #excellentwine, so its terrific now, but I'm also looking forward to seeing this wine again in 12 months time, as I've found that many Pinot Gris of this style, really hit their straps after 12 months in the bottle. #tamarvalley #tasmania Available on the Budburst Online Wine Store for $24.95 See more

13.01.2022 Here we have a Riesling from one of Tasmanias most reknowed Winemakers. Samantha Connew had her first vintage in Oregon where she fell in love with Pinot Noir. She also had stints in Italy and Spain before taking on the role as head winemaker at Wirra Wirra wines for a decade. This followed a couple of years in the Hunter Valley at Tower Estate. In 2016 she embarked on a new path and moved to Tasmania, to start her very own, Stargazer Project. This #fantasticwine is unique ...and a little different from your normal Riesling. It was fermented in a ceramic egg for around 6 weeks and was then left on lees, for 10 months. This is also the first Riesling that Sam has released, from the Palisander vineyard and there have only been 893 bottles produced. She purchased the property in 2016, however the actual vineyard was planted in 2002, with cuttings coming from the Moorilla Estate Berriedale site. 2018 #stargazer Palisander Vineyard #riesling A fruity burst of honeysuckles and pears fill the mouth on entry. Its a concentrated and slightly viscous wine with 4.8g residual playing its part to enhance the silky texture. that has Rose and violet flower characteristics, juicy limes and cinamon spice. Its fruity, soft and elegant through the mid palate, which then transitions to finish that is lengthy, dry with some orange spice that provides the balance and structure that makes this a #fantasticwine. #coalrivervalley #tasmania #budburstwinecollective $39.90

13.01.2022 Tassie is a small place with small boutique producers, predominantly dotted all around the eastern side of the Island. This Laurel Bank Pinot Noir is from one of those small boutique wineries, being a father/daughter team, from the subregion, known as the Derwent Valley. Located down south, near a little place called Granton, they also have a couple of close, high profile neighbours, in Stefano Lubiana and Derwent Estate. 2018 #laurelbank #pinotnoir... This was a classy wine, with a structure of both elegance and power. There is good fruit concentration of red cherries and blue berries on entry and the mid palate is savoury, with rounded oak characters, thyme, licorice and orange peel. The tannic structure is well balanced and also provides strength to the finish, which should see this wine develop further in the cellar over the next decade. Its an #excellentwine and a great to drink now and it well and truly over delivers on price as well #derwentvalley #tasmania The Laurel Bank Vineyard was established in 1986 by Kerry Carland and the Pinot Noir vines, have now reached an age of 22 years. The 3.5ha vineyard has a sloping northerly aspect and are close planted at 1.2 meters apart and 1.8m between rows, with an emphasis on low yielding fruit. Winemaking duties now fall onto daughter, Greer. She makes the family wine but also established her own label of Quiet Mutiny in 2017, for which she gained a Young Gun of Wine nomination this year. Prior to creating Quiet Mutiny, she spent 13 years working for Julian Alcorso at Winemaking Tasmania. She gained her oenology degree in 2000 and then spent time travelling and working in Chile, Oregon and Burgundy. Available for purchase at the Budburst Online Wine Store for $29.95 See more

12.01.2022 Mount Benson is located in the south-east corner of South Australis and is a about 3 1/2 drive from Adelaide. Its home to a a small bunch innocative producers with an emphasis on sustainable vineyard practices. Its a hilly area which is close to the ocean and these two combinations make forrematively cool and temperate conditions with low rainfalls during the growing season with impactful strong ocean winds at times. Berrigan is one of those innovative wineries, with vineya...rds located just 3km from the Southern Ocean. The vinyards were planted in 1998, intentionally planted along a north-south running Ridge, which provides protection from the wind, but still takes advantage of the cooling conditions Dan Berrigan is a cool climate specialist who believes in minimal intevention. He manages his vineyards and is hands on in the winery as well and has made it his mission to show people how beautiful the wines of Mount Benson are. 2016 @Berriganwines #shiraz This wine has a generous mouthful of fruit on entry of dark cherries and red plums. Its quite subtle in its overall weight as is well balanced with influences of white pepper and forest berries and nice overall roundness is provided by toasty oak and vanilla sticks with rounded, slightly grainy tannins on tje finish. Its an #excellentwine that really offers exceptional value for money and with already 4 years of ageing, its nicely integrated over that time #mountbarker #southaustralia Well priced at terrific quality, is how I tend to look at the wines of Mount Benson. Being relatively isolated, means that this region flies under the radar of the average drinker, which basically results in really good value for money wines for us, the consumer See more

11.01.2022 There is much interest in minimal intervention wineries, but there is also much confusion. Basically, producers follow organic principles with no synthetic sprays in the vineyard and they steer away from using new(ish) oak, so they maintain the true fruit characters of the wines. They also tend to use wild yeasts and minimise the use of sulphur dioxide and preservatives.... Here we have 3 tasty examples in a Tasmanian Pinot Noir which has been fermented on Shiraz Skins, an organic Sangiovese from Bendigo and a cool Biodynamic Grenache/Cinsault blend from the Barossa Valley This is a new curated wine pack which was selected by me and the 3 pack is available through #budburstwinecollective for $79 www.budburstwinecollective.com/wineshop If you like what you see why not sign up to my regular updates.

10.01.2022 This is a new release from Bream Creek and I have to say it was rather captivating. I kept wanting to drink more and more, as new flavours kept revealing themselves in my glass. 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay made in the traditional method. Nv @breamcreekvineyard #rose #brut... This is elegant and creamy with a strawberry mousse filling the mouth on entry. It has a lime twist and a hint of blood orange. Theres subtle oyster shell and mushrooms in the background as well, that really compliment the yeasty, biscuity characters of the mid palate as well. The wine finishes long, with a some phenolics providing extra backbone. This is an #excellentwine #eastcoast #tasmania Owner Fred Peacock was the Horticultural Manager for the State Governments Department of Agriculture in the 1970s and worked closely with other Pioneer Growers of that time including the late Graham Wiltshire (of Heemskerk and Jansz), Claudio and Julian Alcorso (of Moorilla) and Andrew Pirie (Pipers Brook). During the late 1980s Fred took on a viticultural job with Moorilla Estate, who were also managing the vineyard at Bream Creek. In 1990, this site came up for auction and Fred decided to purchase it, giving rise to the Bream Creek wines that we know today Available at #budburstwinecollective $36

09.01.2022 This has been one of the most important wines of the Prunotto stable and was first produced in 1970. The Summer of 2017 was quite hot and dry in Piedmont and cooler conditions around vintage time in September, resulted in a low yield harvest of high quality. 2017 #prunotto #occhetti #nebbiolo... Dark savoury cherries provide lifted fruit on entry. Earthy undergrowth characters including brown mushroom influences maintains a savoury theme. Theres a hint of leather, granite and dried herbs. Its medium bodied in weight, but as is a trait of Nebbiollo theres strength and backbone on the finish from firm and grainy tannins. Its a #verygoodwine and if you're not familiar with Nebbiolo but like the idea of of Pinot Noir with some grunt, then give this a try. #langhe #piedmont #italy Langhe is the greater wine region which is located to the NW of the town of Alba, in the Piedmont Region of Northern Italy. The region also encompasses the two most famous Nebbiolo communes in Barolo and Barbaresco, which are famous for producing powerful tannic wines of great ageing potential. These wines are often harsh as young wines and not very approachable for early drinking. The Langhe Appellation offers softer, easier drinking Nebbiolo. Sometimes even Barolo and Barbaresco fruit is used in Langhe Nebbiolo, especially fruit from younger vines which produce softer wines until the vines gain strength through ageing.

09.01.2022 It was great to have a live tasting and chat with Leigh Woodrow, talking all things Langmeil Wines and Barossa Valley and of course the Orphan Bank Shiraz took centre stage A few technical issues but we got there in the end. I do have a bottle of the Orphan Bank, so if any local members would like to taste it, let me know. ... Its also available to purchase from the Budburst online wine store, for $65 per bottle Cheers Joe

08.01.2022 I'm on a mini quest to delve into the Barossa Valley and some of the diversity that it presents through its sub-regions and also its old vines. Here I've found a Shiraz from the Ebenezer sub region which is in the north of the valley. The Ebenezer terrain is mostly flat with consistent depths of red clay soils and the elevation is around 300m (Barrosa ranges 110-600). The nights tend to be cool here and can also be proned to frost and the wine style is known for its opulent... mid palate and velvety tannins. So, based on these common elements of Ebenezer, I would say that I have found a benchmark example of the sub-region. 2018 @glaetzerwines #bishop #Shiraz Concentrated black plums and dark cherry flavours provide a full mouthful of flavour on entry. There's Black pepper, cocoa and well rounded toasty oak maintains a full and textural mid palate, that glides towards a silky yet firm tannic structure. It's a full bodied Shiraz and an #excellentwine that will continue to develop well into the 2030s. #barossavalley #southaustralia The Ebenezer fruit was selected from a low yielding 3 tonnes per hectare and old-vine age ranging from 35 to 120 years. Its undergone extended maceration and has spent 16 months in 40% new oak and 60% in 2-3 year hogsheads Ben Glaetzer is at the helm of the family business which was set up by his father Colin in 1995, who had been a winemaker for Barossa Valley Estate. Ben made an impact at an early age winning the Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year in 2004, when he was only 26.

08.01.2022 This is not your stereotypical Sauvignon Blanc. This is more in the classic French style, inspired by Pouilly Fume where the variety is sometimes barrel fermented (but not always, which is an incorrect perception) giving the wine a smoky characteristic. 2018 #jericho #fumeblanc... The fruit component of this wine is on the tropical spectrum and its also quite aromatic with hints of Jasmine flowers and also some almond influences. Fermentation in old French oak barrels and followed by 5 months on lees has really provided lots of texture and a viscous moutfeel making it rather elegant overall with a softly spiced finish. Its a #verygoodwine and very much a style of SB that I like to look for. #adelaidehills #southaustralia When it comes to family wine businesses, Jericho Wines set a great Benchmark. Father Neil has been the long standing winemaker. The whole family even spent two months in Portugal once, while Dad did vintage there. Not sure if the rest of the family got their hands dirty there, but they sure do now. Wife Kaye has been there all the way over 35 vintages and in 2003 Son Andrew followed in his father's steps as winemaker. Daughter Kaye has a Marketing and Aacounting degree and spent several years working for wineries in the Clare Valley before coming back into the fold. Youngest Son Kim, spent time doing vintage in Canada and Clare Valley and ultimately found his calling in Graphic Design With so much talent spread across the different sectors of important elements of a wine business, there is bound to be exciting times ahead for the Jericho family unit. #budburstwinecollective $24.95

05.01.2022 This is a great new release, from one of a number of new wine labels that are hitting the market. I suspect that there will be an influx of new Tasmanian labels over the next 5 years and beyond. Mapelton Vineyard is owned by the Laing family and its located in the Coal River Valley near the village of Tea Tree. Paul and his parents Denis and Kathryn have 3 adjoining properties called Woodlands, Mapelton and Lynnwood. Paul purchased Mapeleton in 2004 and he and Denis would ...always talk about how it would be a good site for growing grapes, because of its sloping northerly aspect and the rich dolomitic soils. Their discussions came to fruition in 2014. 2018 #mapleton #pinotnoir This wine has lovely lifted raspberry and blueberry fruits. It maintains a burst of flavour through the mid palate with cranberries and jasmine fruits, thyme and mint. The fruit component is the definite hero of this wine, but its also well balanced by a finish that has bright acidity and fury tannins. It's a #verygoodwine, and a wine that would match well with greek lamb or even some deep see Fish, like baked Blue Eye #coalrivervalley #tasmania #budburstwinecollective $29.95

05.01.2022 Some of you know me well, but many of you don't. So, here's a little about me. You know, the guy that keeps sending you wine suggestions.... I've been working in the wine industry for over 30 years. Wine is my passion. I love the collectiveness of like minded people and the fun it brings and I want to share this world with more people The 90’s were my foundation years and after completing my Diploma in Hotel Management, I worked as a Sommelier, managed a wine store and also coordinated a wine club, with over 2000 members. For the past 20 years I have been working for wine companies in a sales capacity. It’s been a journey that has allowed me to work with some of Australia’s best wine portfolios, conversing directly with Sommeliers, Winemakers, Vignerons, Wine Directors and Retailers, everyday of the week. I used to write for the Wine Club back in the old days and loved it. In 2015, I decided to start writing again, by creating an Instagram profile @Lenckdrank and before I knew it, there were more than 15 thousand people following and engaging with my wine stories and reviews, from all parts of the globe. I decided to create the BudBurst Wine Collective in 2020, as an avenue for my friends to easily access the wines I personally enjoyed and wrote about. 05.01.2022 I've had this wine a few times over the years and every time I've had it it reminds me of Tuscany. I say this not because the label says Sangiovese ( the most planted variety in Tuscany) but because the actual style of wine, reminds of a Tuscan Chianti. This has a similar fruit weight to a Tuscan example of Sangiovese and also similar spicy characteristic, but without the funk that you often get from the Italians. Its medium bodied and savoury, which has benefited from 4 y...ears of bottle age, that has added additional softness and flavour integration. 2016 #Collector #roseredcity #Sangiovese Wild red cherries and red plums are supplemented with savoury and herbal characters with a touch of Rosemary, Forrest floor, tobacco and spiced, nutty oak. The finish is dry and fresh with chalky tannins. It's a #verygoodwine that's drinking very well right now #canberradistrict #ACT Winemaker and owner Alex McKay has skilfully blended small parcels of varieties which are scarce in Australia but also found in the Blending of Chianti. The majority of the wine is Sangiovese and the remainder is made up of Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Colorino and Malvasia Nera. It seems that blending these varieties would be the secret ingredient in the crafting of this fabulous wine which tastes like a Chianti Classico. Fruit is sourced from Murrumbateman which is a part of the Canberra District Wine Region and it's classified as a cool region, and is home to around 20 boutique wineries these days Canberras recent emergence as a wine region of note has been due to an influx of new-wave winemakers, who are pushing the boundaries and branching out by trying out new varieties that have not been the norm in other parts of the Country. Grüner Veltliner, Gamay, Tempranillo and Sangiovese are all creating an excitement in the region and Alex McKay and The Collector are amongst the driving force. #budburstwinecollective $29.95

05.01.2022 We all need a midweek wine that doesn't break the bank, but satisfies your taste buds, on Tightass Tuesday, Humpday or Thirsty Thursday. I've been on a mission to find exactly such a wine and I came across this one last week. Don't be put off by its 2020 vintage, its remarkably complex and flavoursome for such a young wine. This wine was produced by a local wine merchant who helped out at vintage time at Berrigan Wines in Mount Benson, South Australia. While he was there he... purchased some fruit and helped to make his own wine 2020 Pour les Frisque #shiraz This wine has generous spicy red cherry fruits that provide a nice mouthfeel on entry. Its medium bodied but quite juicy as well, with elements of sage, white pepper and licorice. The finish is well balanced with a nice spice and even tannins that provide some backbone and structure which compliments the primary fruit flavours. Its a #goodwine which at under $15 really delivers the goods well above its price point #mountbenson #southaustralia To purchase this wine, head to the BudBurst Wine store its $13.95 and we can deliver all around Australia. 02.01.2022 Newly curated Wine packs are now on the Budburst site (link in bio) www.budburstwinecollective.com/wineshop ... There are some beautiful Rieslings produced in Tasmania and with this selection we are focusing on Southern Tasmanias Coal River Valley. Three great producers and 3 completely different styles, but all are dry. The Pooley and Stargazer are textural, with the latter being fermented in a ceramic egg for additional complexity. The Parish is steely and zesty and great with Seafood. #budburstwinecollective $97.00 @pooleywines @stargazerwines @parishvineyard #tasmanianwine #tasmanianriesling #winelover #winepack #winegeek #winelife #winetime #winereview #australianwine

02.01.2022 The Journey Pack was a great success, with the first one launched last month. The feedback I received was that people enjoyed every bottle of the Journey Pack, which made me feel great, because that was in fact my aim. I try to chose wines of consistent quality across every bottle.... Sometimes you buy packs from other wine clubs, where they'll add a couple of carrots to attract your attention and then have a couple of cheaper and average wines to increase their profitability. I don't work on that model and hence there will be slight price variations on the Journey Pack each month. I'm very happy again with the quality and variety of this months pack and I'm sure you will enjoy every bottle and maybe also experience something a little new as well. It's only $145.00 (plus shipping Australia wide) For more details on the wines selected and how to purchase go to www.budburstwinecollective.com/wineshop And while you are there, why not sign up to the Budburst mailing list

01.01.2022 The Buddy bus was on tour again today taking members to local wineries on the outskirts of Hobart. 01.01.2022 I'm not sure why, but whenever I think of Rose, I think of enjoying the Suns rays in the garden, with a picnic basket full of yummy treats. This Rose is made from Pinot Noir and is the perfect wine for such an occasion. Light and fruity, yet dry and infinitely smashable. 2019 @miltonvineyard #Pinot #Rose... This is a Rose that is soft and fruity. Strawberries and cream was the first thing that sprung to mind with perfumed rose petals and a touch of spice. The finish maintains an even length in keeping with the fruit intensity. Its a #verygoodwine whi h is perfect for summer sipping, that will go nicely with soft cheeses and raw tuna. #eastcoast #tasmania I was reading the other day that since Covid we are actually having more picnics. With limited opportunities to go out, people are getting innovative and spending more quality time with their loved ones and picnics are back in vogue. Rose continues to grow in Australia and its up by 16% in the past year. Whereas in days gone by Rose was generally produced from Grenache, now there is much more varieties being used as well, which I think makes things rather intetesting. This ones is made from Pinot Noir, which produces soft, fruity expressive Rose styles. #budburstwinecollective $24.95
