23.01.2022 I never really understood flatlay photography and how to make it not look like mess on a table But after quite a few shoots, I've figured out some ways to get a well-composed flatlay photo: Negative space is important! You don't have to fill up the entire frame - in fact it can draw attention to certain aspects of the image if there isn't something in every corner... Test out different distances from the products - shooting super-wide can tell a completely different story to a closer shot. I've found that going wider works well so don't be afraid to stand up on a chair to capture more of the surface - yes I've done this multiple times Consider the size of the objects in the frame - different shapes and proportions help to lead you around the image and make it more interesting. Practice, practice, practice! Figuring out the placement of objects and what works is best learnt through trial and error. Move things around, add different layers, take things out - give it a go and snap away until you fill the space just enough to get the shot you love! See more
