23.01.2022 A more carefree time, in the rain ... just a couple of years ago. Start planning for next October's event ... we have.
22.01.2022 We haven't been able to do anything for a while, so lets look back ... which after all is what a History Group is all about. Who remembers our first Cam's Capers - 2017. What a great day. Here is a little video for jogging your memory of this fun and informative sunny day. https://youtu.be/kCG7b25PnJw.
22.01.2022 The first fire fighting unit purchased by the Lenswood & Forest Range EFS in 1957 was a second-hand Chevrolet Blitz 4x4. It was housed at the east end of the Lenswood Cold Stores Cannery. There was the odd occasion when the battery was found to be flat in a call out. A nearby tractor would tow the truck up to the Lobethal Road and if the vehicle didn’t run-start down the hill, it pulled into Lenswood Motors for attention. The hazy photo is from some movie film from the Joan Trevenen collection.
20.01.2022 Interesting map on this article from Trove!
20.01.2022 OK team - a few questions to ask your grandparents re Forest Range - do they remember their parents talking about the following : 1. Exactly where was Golden Point (not the property currently named Golden Point but the real location - may or may not be the same) 2. Exactly where was Parrot-tree Gully 3. Exactly where was Victoria Gully 4. Exactly where was Kensington Gully... 5. Which creek was New Forest Creek We have some information on the above but want to confirm our info and our guesses. thanks See more

17.01.2022 This photo was taken last week somewhere in our district. Do you know where it is and have an idea about its orgins? Learn more about this at our next History Group display - October (hopefully). Good guesses. So now who knows what it is and why it was built and who built it and when ..... Come on - do you know your local history? Hint - it is very long and goes around the side of the hill. "here a man demands two shillings toll per vehicle, with a reduction for trading people for the privilege of using Mr. Baum's track to Mr. Price Maurice's property, where the field expectant lies. This track is narrow- - only wide enough for one vehicle at a time with a steep hill on the right and a nasty fall on the left hand, so that drivers need to be careful."
17.01.2022 OK - another brain stretcher for you. Who knows their local history well enough to name the building that, in this photo, you see just the foundations remaining. Photo is 1949 so it was gone by '49. Stretch your brains ....
16.01.2022 Minutes of the AGM are uploaded. Short meeting, same team. Lets hope the coming year allows us to hold our October event! Start planning. https://historymeetings.wordpress.com/
16.01.2022 Remember the Apple andPear Festivals. Click on this link to view historical videos of three festivals. https://historylfr.wordpress.com/our-events/
15.01.2022 I wonder how people knew how hot the oven was in the 'old days'. What was a cool oven, a slow oven, a hot oven, etc. Below is a recipe from an old Forest Range resident's cook book. Lots of the recipes were from other people, ie Freda's sponge, Dorothy's biscuits. Her is Mrs Hale's fruit cake recipe. What old local recipes do you have? Do you ever try any?
15.01.2022 Many years ago, when we started the history group, one of the driving forces and original committee members was Kelvyn Vickers. Kelvyn helped us to research and gather information and was the subject of our first oral history recording. Kelvyn died some time ago and his wife Joan died last month. We have added a video of their property to Kelvyn's oral history page. The property was called Bonvale and the video is made from some of the many films that Kelvyn and Joan shared with us. View it on this page. https://historytopics.wordpress.com/vickers-kelvyn/

07.01.2022 Here's a second trip down memory lane, or up and over the hills, on a Cam's Capers. Enjoy looking back and remembering our wonderful exploration. https://youtu.be/cN0ZSUoccJg
07.01.2022 What do you remember about milk at school as a kid ?????
04.01.2022 A lot of community groups struggle to maintain their resources. In our area the community own both the Forest Range and Lenswood ovals and both committees work hard to keep the facilities up to date. But we all know that resources and funds are limited. So of course we encourage you to support both of these committees (be a member, offer assistance, etc).
