25.01.2022 I'm almost full-stack but full-stack is quite a hard thing to expect from people! #leofebeytech #programmerhumor #techmemes

24.01.2022 Here is my team's GovHack 2020 project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9c5NF-__qg We used topological data to determine which roads were able to be traveled on with alternative transport, like electric scooters and electric bikes.... I worked on the web app where you enter a start and end destination, and it calculated if the route is easily passable based on slope of roads along the way. It was a bit of a close call near the deadline, but we just finished it. You can test out the web app here: http://scoot.hobarthackerspace.org.au/

17.01.2022 Over the last few days I was in Queenstown to do a test run of the camera and PA system that myself and Anderson Morgan have been working on, for the West Coast Wilderness Railway. The camera system part displays camera streams from the front and the back of the train. It is configured with a web interface, where you select what is going to be on what screens. The staff then can trigger the stream from the web interface (tablet) and it displays the view from the front and bac...k. It was a significant milestone, running the system live on a real running train! And it worked! We had some power issues, where some carriages were losing power on the way up. That was fixed on the way back and it ran much better. The PA system is nearly complete. As a whole product, it is just about ready for them, it will be running on real passenger trips soon! It is such a great honor and opportunity to be working on this project, it will be a great achievement for Leo Febey Tech. However I am not pushing myself too hard to get it done, my wellbeing comes first! #leofebeytech

17.01.2022 I'm scheduled to deploy the camera system I've been helping with for the west coast railway on the 9th-11th September. This will be a significant milestone for the project, setting it up on the train fully for the first time. It will hopefully go well, and will look good on my resume. After that, my weekly schedule will be much more open to projects, software, apps, websites, etc. I have one software testing job on the go currently, but it does not take up the whole week, so I'm looking for more major projects to work on. However, I am still planning to run workshops, and provide technical assistance. But the software projects generally pay the bills.

16.01.2022 I have been working on the West Coast Railway project again today. I was updating the Compute Sticks with the latest software, so that the staff will have an easier time setting up the system. One interesting perk is that when I work remotely, I can see the cameras on the trains in the station. So I get a live view of the Queenstown train station! It almost feels like being there.. This shot was a bit blurry, they might need to clean the camera. But still very cool.

15.01.2022 My second workshop, Raspberry Pi sensor box. So, it didn't go as well as I had hoped. We had some issues with the WiFi network, where the Pis couldn't keep a stable connection. Which are up a lot of time before people had to leave. But people still said that they enjoyed it, had fun and learned things. They took home the parts and the instructions so they can work on it at home. I hope they complete it! They got a taste of setting up a Raspberry Pi, programming it and usi...ng Linux. Very useful skills! Definitely a learning experience, it's good to have things go wrong early so you can prevent it happening in the future. I will be doing things a bit differently next time. I've said that I'm on call to help, so the participants should be able to complete it at home, or meet up with me another time. #workshop #raspberrypi #learningexperience #wififail #python #linux #stem #education #sensors #iot

Thank you, Leo.

13.01.2022 Sunday Schooling: Arduino What is Arduino? Arduino is a cheap, easily programmable mini computer that you can program to do things with electronics components. For example, you can make an automatic watering machine, a robot, sensor data logger, oven controllers, automated lighting, and much more.... It's a very useful tool for empowering makers to make their own products, instead of buying expensive pre-made solutions. Before Arduino, the most popular alternative was the PIC series. Arduino has some improvements over PIC, like an official easy-to-use programming tool (IDE) and an easier programming experience due to simplified code base. Also, a form factor that allows you to easily plug in 'shields' with extra functionality that doesn't require soldering. The original Arduino became popular in around 2008, and it as spawned numerous official Arduino models, and competitors which do similar things. For example, Teensy, ESP32, MicroPython, and ARM Mbed. Not to be confused with Raspberry Pi - that is a whole computer that runs an operating system. The Arduino does not run an operating system, it just runs the single program that you upload to it. I've been a big fan of Arduino over the years, one of my latest projects was a Internet radio alarm clock, where the Arduino controls the LCD that displays the time and station info. 07.01.2022 Just a heads-up, I will be far away from Hobart this Wednesday to this Friday, as I am going to be installing a major project in Queenstown! For any Hobart-baser support, please wait until Monday 14th September. I will be on-call but very patchy. I will be checking Facebook and emails though. Looking forward to my next projects after Queenstown!

06.01.2022 Announcing... I will be running a family robotics workshop this summer holidays! It will be basically the same as my previous workshop, build a Python-powered robot that can avoid obstacles. But aimed more for kids and families. Take home a robot that you made! Stay tuned for more info and registration!

05.01.2022 Phone screen repair success! I replaced the screen on a Google Pixel 2 phone. It requires leveraging off the glass screen on top carefully with a heat gun and plastic pry tools. It came off finally, and I replaced it with a new screen that worked. Device repair is just one of my services, but I have proven that I can do it. #missionaccomplished #screenrepair #screenreplacement #pixel2

Do you have any cool tech that you're extremely excited for?... Maybe a new RTX 3000 graphics card, an iPhone 12. Or if your budget is a bit lower, perhaps just some new peripherals for your PC, or new Bluetooth headphones?

03.01.2022 Some clever people pointed out that it should be 'ls' not 'is'. Well done for spotting it! I missed it I'll pay more attention when getting images next time. But it's good to know there are people out there that know Linux commands. It's very valuable knowledge that can get you into well paying IT jobs. Considering that Linux is often so well hidden from everyday life. Stay tuned for more teachings!
