24.01.2022 Update 1 June 2020 in Victoria. Croquet Victoria has been advised that despite information that appears to the contrary, club houses must remain closed, except for the use of toilets. This may change on 22nd June!!

23.01.2022 It is with much regret and sadness that our Croquet Club management and members have decided to close down the club until further notice. We will reassess the situation again then. We need to be taking this dreaded virus seriously and we decided it would be too difficult to adhere to the Government rules and regulations of social distancing. Please take care out there, stay safe, stay home if you can and we will see you all again soon

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Debbie McKinnon and Michael Barber who won our Intra Club Doubles Competition yesterday. Debbie is one of our newest members, she loves her croquet and was very excited to win with the more experienced Michael. It was a lovely warm day and the rain held off until later in the day. It feels like we are slowly getting back to a 'Covid' normal, everyone enjoyed the competition which was played in the great spirit of the game. Some photos of the action on the lawns.

23.01.2022 New print-ready version of the CA's #COVID19 guidance - for attention of all clubs. DM if you want a PDF copy! Full guidance: https://www.croquet.org.uk/?p=press/news&NewsID=7010&pup=y

22.01.2022 Yesterday we had a fun afternoon for our Christmas break-up. Garry created some fun games for everyone to join in. We then enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone, we look forward to a covid free 2021 where we can get back to enjoying our croquet again without restrictions. Stay safe.

22.01.2022 We had a beautiful day for play yesterday, the lawns were full and everyone was happy to be playing again.

20.01.2022 We had a great finish to our Twilight competiton last night. Congratulations to the winners, 'Sandra's Boys', Allister and Cameron Dowling who won 6 out of their 7 games. They were chased keenly by team 'D & D', Garry Van Sinderen and Geoff Robb and team 'RSL', Wendy Wyhoon and Brenda Hocking, who both won 5 out of their 7 games. Garry and Geoff came in a close 2nd followed by Wendy and Brenda, 3rd. Presentations and a raffle draw took place at the end of the night, well done... to Judy Robb who guessed the exact number of Yo Yo's in the jar. Congratulations to all. Thank you to our sponsors, Edneys of Leongatha, your continued support is greatly appreciated. Thanks to our members throughout the competiton who assisted on the lawns and in the kitchen and for supplying yummy suppers each night. It was lots of fun and we greatly appreciate the ongoing support for this competiton each year.

20.01.2022 Twilight is back!! Our annual Twilight competition is coming back on Monday night 3rd February. Competition will be over 4 Monday nights in February. Stay tuned more info coming soon.

19.01.2022 Our lawns were cored today and what an amazing process to watch!! Firstly a machine cores the lawns and makes small holes in the lawn. This is followed by another machine which comes along and vacuums up all the removed soil cores. Fertiliser goes on next before the sand is spread to fill the holes and rejuvenate the lawns. Then lots of watering!! The sand spreader had a bit of an axle blow out so they will be back to complete the job on Monday. Great job everyone.

19.01.2022 Thank you to the Lions Club of Leongatha Inc for joining us again this year by holding their dinner meeting at our club. It's always a fun night for us as well as a fundraiser. Many of the Lions Club members had a fun game of croquet before a BBQ dinner and meeting, this was followed by a supper supplied by our members. Thank you to our members for helping on the night and for making salads and supper. We greatly appreciate the continued support of the Lions Club of Leongatha. 18.01.2022 Last day of competition. Congratulations to the winner of Section 2, Garry Shandley from Leongatha who won 4 out of 5 of his games, followed very closely by runner-up Ian Kelson from Warrnambool, who won 3 of his 5 games. Runner-up was very tightly contested with Ian, Barbara Castles from Sale and Joy Davis from Traralgon, all winning 3 of their 5 games. Ian won in the end by a hoop count. Section 3 winner was decided yesterday, Congratulations to Liz Wallis from Ringwood tak...ing out the win. Congratulations to Pauleen Leditschke from Phillip Island who was runner-up in Section 3 winning 4 of her 5 games, followed very closely by Julie Love from Brighton who also won 4 games, this also came down to a hoop count. Well done to everyone. Thank you to Thelma and Ron for your expert refereeing over 4 days. We couldn't play without the enormous efforts of Graeme and Thelma who once again produced excellent lawns. Thank you to the members who helped in the kitchen making lunches and also for the afternoon teas. Bakers Delight spoilt us every day with their yummy scones and buns, their continued support of croquet is greatly appreciated. Overall a hugely successful tournament. See more

18.01.2022 Corona restrictions relaxed in Victoria The Victorian Premier’s announcement today (Sunday 22 November 2020) includes some very welcome changes in the restricti...ons affecting sport. These will be included in revised Return to Croquet guidelines as soon as we see the updated Directions documents from the Chief Health Officer. In the meantime, here is a summary of the main points. But first - many thanks to everyone for their patience over the past nine months! It hasn’t been an easy time. It’s been wonderful to have so many staunch members ensuring that their croquet club has not become a hotspot for infection. The good news, from midnight tonight: No masks outdoors, if you are social distancing (keep a mask in your pocket). Group sizes of 50 for outdoor sport, subject to a ratio of 4 square metres per person. Croquet courts easily meet the density ratio, so we are governed by the 50 player maximum. Clubrooms are open. Masks must be worn. Shared catering arrangements not yet clear. Gatherings of groups of 50 outdoors. We are not clear yet about the number indoors. Density quotient seems now to be 4 square metres per person, but the maximum for a meeting in a community venue is not spelt out yet. Hygiene and sign-in arrangements should be maintained, to avoid cross-infection and support contact tracing if need be. If your club has already completed a COVID-safe plan, we suggest you update it once you have the refreshed Return to Croquet guidelines. Send your updated plan and the refreshed Croquet Victoria guidelines to your LGA for information. More information: contact the Croquet Victoria Secretary on [email protected]

15.01.2022 Warm weather and happy players makes for a fun afternoon playing croquet. It was great to see the lawns full again

15.01.2022 Finally we are allowed to play Croquet again but with some very strict protocols and guidelines. It’s a start, we don’t want to rush these things and go back to square one again.

13.01.2022 Although the croquet play has temporarily stopped, the maintenance of the lawns and grounds continues. Garry and two of our new members, Michael and Jo Butterfield, have been gardening and sprucing up the back yard. They also spread 80 kgs of lime ready to be watered in with the rain. Michael built a little tin wood shelter and moved the wood from under the plastic. This is a job we have been talking about for a few years. It all looks awesome, thanks Michael, Jo and Garry, hope you didn't get wet or find any snakes!!!

09.01.2022 We have seen a great deal of interest in playing croquet over the last few months, (leading up to and after the covid lock down), attracting some awesome new members who are super keen on the game. We have also had a group of ladies from the local "M & M's" group who are keen to come and play and our Life Member Thelma has been conducting coaching sessions on a Monday morning at 10.30am for anyone who wants to learn more about how to play the game. We've had a great turn out and everyone has been enjoying Thelma's coaching and knowledge of the game, as well as her fun sense of humor.

09.01.2022 Cleaning Croquet Equipment Included in the guidelines that we must follow to allow up to ten players to return to the courts is the advice that all equipment sh...ould be sanitised. Paul Manwaring of the Australian Croquet Company, supplier of Dawson International croquet balls, has advised that a mild dishwashing detergent and water should be used to clean the croquet balls. Anything else may damage the balls. Please remember to also limit the number of people handling any of the court equipment. See more

07.01.2022 Congratulations to the winners of Section 1 and Section 3 yesterday on day 3 of the tournament. Section 1 was won by Roger Lee from Brighton Croquet Club who won 5 out of his 6 games followed by Andrew Wootton from the Brunswick Croquet Club who just pipped Colin Crawford from Traralgon in hoops. Both Andrew and Colin won 3 games each with Andrew winning with +30 hoops and Colin +4. Whilst Section 3 has more games to play today, Congratulations to Liz Wallis from the Ringwood... Croquet Club who won 5 out of 5 games to take out the winner’s prize. Runner-up for Section 3 will be decided today as well as Section 2 Winner and Runner-up. We would like to acknowledge our appreciation of the ongoing support and sponsorship of Bakers Delight in Leongatha who have supplied us with their yummy scones and buns each day, the players have commented on the great variety, thank you Bakers Delight. A big thank you also to the Leongatha RSL for donating bottles of wine for our raffle, much appreciated. See more

07.01.2022 Day 1 & 2. Our annual Association Tournament got off to a great start on Monday. We have been very well supported by 18 playing members entering from clubs all around Victoria including from Ringwood, Brunswick, Warrnambool, Terang, Brighton, Sale, Traralgon, Phillip Island and Leongatha. Some photos of the action from Monday and Tuesday.

06.01.2022 Today we had fun hosting a group from the Pulmonary Rehabilitation unit from the Gippsland Southern Health Service. Everyone enjoyed their games which reinforced how healthy and passive our fun game can be, albeit competitive . Thanks for organising it Kathryn and hope to see you again soon.

06.01.2022 Night 3 of our Twilight competition last night, and it's all coming down to the wire!! We have 2 front runners neck and neck, 'Sandra's Boys' (Allister & Cameron) and the 'RSL' (Wendy & Brenda) teams are leading the way on 5 out of 6 games each with only 2 hoops between them. They are closely followed by 'T & T' (Ray & Tom) and 'D & D' (Geoff & Garry) on 4 games each who could be the late challengers!! Competition has been strong with lots of fun had by all. Thanks to our members for helping on the lawns and cooking a yummy supper. Some action pics from the night.
