20.01.2022 Positions available in teams at Leongatha Table Tennis Association on Wednesday nights, to play competition grade table tennis. Do you have a hit at work or in your back room or garage on the weekend? Make up your own two person team. If interested shed is in the Leongatha Recreation Reserve Roughead Street come along at 7.00 pm for a fun night. Bats available for loan.

14.01.2022 Photo included: Leongatha Table Tennis World Veteran Case Debondt, Olympians Russell Lavale, Melissa Tapper and Leongatha’s Victorian junior player Jack Duff. Leongatha Table Tennis stadium was a buzz with Grade 5&6 students Thursday 24th of October when the Victorian Olympic Committee and GippSport ran a sports program to showcase five different sports. Current Olympic Table Tennis player, Melissa Tapper and Russell Lavale answered their questions and had a hit with the stud...ents. In A Grade, the home and away season has finished and top team De Lorean had to work hard for a 6-5 rubber win against Sierra. With Braden Andrighetto and Citty Taylor of Sierra defeating the two Michaels, Westerway and Holwerda in the doubles 12-10,3-11,7-11-8,14-12, it was 2 rubbers each. Sierras, Jo Taylor was two games up against Leanne Costello who came home strongly to win the match for De Lorean. Mustangs who are second on the ladder were defeated by fifth placed Humbug 7-4 rubbers. Humbugs Bryce Holwerda was struggling against Jack Duff in the first two games and in Jack’s words, he chocked and Bryce won the match in five. In the doubles, Bryce and Martin Stone, Humbugs defeated Jack and Neil Smith in four games. Third placed Corvettes trounced last placed Honda 10-1 rubbers. Corvettes, Neil Chilvers, Cam Dowling and Frank Hirst will go into the finals feeling quietly confident. Fourth placed Morris Minis, Michael Chang, Aiden Holwerda and Paul Mc Casey defeated sixth placed Ferrari 8-3 rubbers. Ferrari’s Fred DeBondt won two rubbers and Michael Bracecamp won a close match with Aiden, 9-11,11-8,11-13,13-11,11-8. A Reserve Grand final will be between Robins, Rob Calder and Robin McKinnon versus The Bears Shane Derrick and Lynne McIntyre. In the Juniors, the lead player is Will Davies closely followed by Harry Herbert, Jessie Pearce, Sam Holt, Sam Ellen, Lauchie Bell, Daniel Watson, Ben Watson, Lauchie Ellen and Samantha Davies Thanks Matthew for regularly putting articles in Sentinal.



10.01.2022 Due to the Corona virus, The Leongatha Table Tennis committee have decided to suspend Junior competition held on Wednesday afternoons until further notice. We regret having to take this action, but regard everyone’s safety as paramount and hope that play can resume in the near future.

09.01.2022 Rob Calder & Robin McKinnon A Reserve Premiers. Neil Chilvers, Cam Dowling and Frank Hirst A Grade Premiers. Corvette Premiers. From fourth to Premiers for Leongatha Table Tennis A Grade players Neil Chilvers, Cam Dowling and Frank Hirst, in what was a closely fought 6-5 rubbers, 21-19 games final.... Morris Minis - Michael Chang, Paul McAsey and Aiden Holwerda took it up to Corvettes all night. At the end of the first doubles match the score was 2 all with Corvettes Neil and Cam defeating Michael and Paul 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9. When Michael and Aiden of Morris Minis defeated Frank and Neil in the second doubles 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4, it was 4 rubbers a piece. It was down to the last singles game of the night between Cam and Paul to decide the winner. Cam came out strongly in the first two games, then Paul reversed the game score on Cam in the next two games. With all other matches finished, a last tense game was watched by twenty plus spectators with Cam winning 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 5-11, 11-6. A Reserve Premiers Team Robins, Rob Calder and Robin McKinnon was the stand out team, defeating The Bears, Shane Derrick and Lynne McIntyre 4-1 rubbers. Shane tried gallantly, but veteran Rob Calder was on fire only letting Shane take one game, winning 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4. Robins, Robin McKinnon has to be the most improved player of the competition playing some unbelievable shots to defeat Lynne in three games, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8. The Leongatha Table Tennis club, which is a Goodsports club, will be holding their presentation night on Tuesday 26th November at their sponsors, Prom Country Cheese factory at Moyarra. 08.01.2022 Leongatha Table Tennis. Leongatha Table Tennis club will be holding A Grade and A Reserve Grand finals on the 12th November, so with only a couple of nights play left the top two positions in A Grade could change. With De Lorean on 22-83-273, Mustangs on 20-76-269, Morris Mini 14-75-259, Corvette 12-70-234, Humbug 8-63-211, Ferrari 8-59-209, Sierra 8-55-193 and Honda 6-49-175, the top four looks set. De Lorean defeated Ferrari 8-3 rubbers, with De Lorean young Braden Andrighe...tto of Wonthaggi, taking seasoned player Jason Comrie to five games, before Jason prevailed. Ferrari’s Michael Bracecamp had two close five game matches against De Lorean Michael Holwerda and Leanne Castello, with Michael H and Leanne taking the honours. Mustangs defeated Corvette 6-5 rubbers with Mustangs Neil Smith, Jack Duff defeating Corvettes Neil Chilvers and Frank Hirst in a close doubles match 11-8,6-11,15-13,13-11,13-11. Then Jack defeated Neil C in a close five gamer to take the rubber. Humbug defeated Honda 8-3 rubbers with the match between Honda’s Katrina Brandon and Humbugs Poppy Duff being the only match to go to five games. The forth game ended 18-16 to Katrina, but Poppy won the match. Morris Mini defeated Sierra 7-4 rubbers. The two Michaels played a thrilling five games with long rallies. Changi smashing and Gristy defending two meters from the table. Sierras Michael Grist turned the tables on Michael Chang for a well earned win. Leading players, Jack 35, Michael C 33, Case 29, Bryce 27, Michael H 27, Neil C 25. A Reserve ladder is Robins 32, The Bears 20, RSL 12, Pies 8 and Flamingos 8. Flamingos defeated The Bears 5-0 rubbers. The Bears have called on fill in Colleen Herbert to replace James Ryan who is busy with VCE exams. Colleen had three close five game matches on her first night against Robin McKinnon and Bill Haw, only just losing both matches. Colleen teamed with Lynne McIntyre in the doubles to be defeated in a close five games. RSL defeated Pies 3-2 rubbers, with the Pies Shane Derrick defeating fifty year veteran Rob Calder for the first time in four games. Pies Issy Derrick played Kyle Campbell with Kyle winning in four games. The club who is a Goodsports club, will hold its presentation night on Tuesday 26th November at its sponsors Prom Country Cheese factory at Moyarra. Could all players who are going please register at stadium for catering purposes.

04.01.2022 Tammy Holwerda Memorial Shield. Leongatha Table Tennis Club held their dinner and presentation night at Prom Country Cheese factory at Moyarra. The surprise of the night was the presentation to Michael and Bryce Holwerda, of The Tammy Holwerda Memorial Shield, Junior Aggregate. A newly created award in the recognition of her years of tireless work as Secretary and Junior Coach. Tammy passed away in early 2018. Tammy was an instigator of the Gippsland Junior Sports Academy. Th...is involved sixteen junior players from Wonthaggi, Leongatha, Traralgon and Bairnsdale, getting together over a two year period at a club venue and being coached by Alois Rosario, who is the current Australian Paralympic Table Tennis head coach. Both of Tammy's sons, Aiden and Bryce were involved. Tammy organised and ran after school programs for junior players for many years and with her husband Michael organised A Grade, A Reserve and B Grade competitions. Tammy was quite often called on to find fill-ins at the last minute and was known to have played as the fill-in in all grades. Tammy had a mean back hand smash. The presentations were made to the winners by the club President Kevin Dowling, who will be passing the Presidents job next year to Bryce Holwerda. Winners were A Grade Club Champion, Michael Chang. Doubles Champions Case and Fred DeBondt. A Reserve, James Ryan. Doubles, Rob Calder and Robin McKinnon. Womens Open Champion Leanne Costello. A Grade Premiers, Corvettes, Neil Chilvers, Cameron Dowling and Frank Hirst. A Grade Aggregate went to Jack Duff. A Reserve Premiers, Robins, Rob Calder and Robin McKinnon. A Reserve Aggregate went to Rob Calder. Most improved Junior, All Grades, Poppy Duff. The Tammy Holwerda Memorial Shield, Junior Aggregate was won by Will Davies The Bill Holwerda Best Club Person for 2019 was Domonic Murdica. Members had a wonderful meal cooked and served by Bronwyn and Katrina with Burke entertaning member with his fiddle playing to end the night.
