23.01.2022 An update on Sam representing Australia at the 2019 Asia Pacific Deaf Games. With much disappointment we advise that the games in Hong Kong have been cancelled due to escalating violence. Sam is disappointed but of course his and the teams safety is paramount. Last Thursday the Deaf Football Australia team received formal notification from Cameron Miller, the Chef de Mission of the Australian Asia Pacific Deaf Games team that, due to recent changes in the nature of the ongoin...g protests by pro-democracy advocates, Hong Kong Deaf Sports and Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation can no longer guarantee the safety of athletes during the Games. Hong Kong Deaf Sports and the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation have decided to CANCEL the 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games. What happens next with the Deaf Football Team? DFA have heard over the weekend that competing countries will be advised of the details of any alternative competition at the end of October. At present we do not have anymore details. Some form of competition is forecast to go ahead; Asia Pacific Deaf Sports needs to confirm the top six countries for the World Championships in September 2020, and the 2021 Deaflympics. Sam has been very fortunate to have considerable support over the past 6 months, with many people helping to allow him to fulfill his dream. Those fundraising dollars received for Sam are safely held and will now be used to cover the costs of any alternative future competition. Sam will attend another training camp in Sydney from the 6th to the 8th of December to ensure that both he and the team stay focused and in shape for future matches. Sam continues to train and follow instructions from the team’s fitness advisor, as he has since making the team. We would like to thank everyone for your support over this time and will keep you advised of when the competition is rescheduled. 14.01.2022 PLEASE READ....important message from our President. Dear Leongatha Knights Football Club community, The committee has recently been involved in discussions both internally and with the GSL in relation to the 2020 future of our club in relation to fielding teams into this seasons competition.... Following receipt of all the information it has been decided that for the safety of the club, players and parents the Leongatha Knights Football Club will not be playing any games in the 2020 GSL season. A very difficult decision and one not taken lightly. Your committee has weighed up a lot of issues including considering the relative numbers of people who had registered to train. I understand that a number of players have paid fees and we will be in touch in the future to discuss how we can move forward. Here is some information and or points that the Committee considered: Safety of all participants in view of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Do we have enough LKFC volunteers to met the game day guidelines, at present we do not have a Secretary and this position is still being sought. Mary MacKillop have advised that we are not able to utilise the LKFC grounds, therefore we would have needed to seek an alternate venue for LKFC home games. Additional costs would have been incurred for use of those grounds. GSL have indicated that they would reduce their by fee $25. LKFC would have to reduce its fees at some stage. No advice has been received from Football Victoria as to if or how much they would refund / reduce for the season. Other clubs have already decided to remove themselves from the 2020 competition. Ultimately a decision had to be made and as a club we have a duty of care to all members of the club. We as many other people at the club have vulnerable people in our lives and Covid-19 does not discriminate, we would be very regretful if something within our families occured. As difficult a decision as it is, we are playing a local level community sport and our responsibility is to that community. I would like like to thank everybody for their efforts in attending our Covid safe trainings along with the relevant coaches. All and any training will therefore stop immediately. Thanks go out to all our Players, Parents, Volunteers and Sponsors who I hope will continue to be involved with the club going forward into 2021. Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing everybody next year ready and rearing to go at our new training facility. Thanking you Glenn Bainbridge LKFC President

10.01.2022 ******Important Message regarding COVID-19******* The Leongatha Knights Committee has over the past week been monitoring the current impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and in light of the latest information from FV we have decided that as of midnight tonight all training, soccer related activities will be suspended until 14th April 2020. This includes ALL levels of football from under 6’s through to the Senior Mens and Womens Teams.... As a club we have a responsibility and duty of care to our playing families both on and off the pitch. We will continue to maintain contact with the GSL and FV and will endeavor to update our members of the club on any future changes. We are being asked as a community to practice self isolation and limit our interactions with others and we believe that this decision is in line with these directives.
