25.01.2022 A reminder that our Awesome Arts Exhibition is on at 12:30pm today at the school!

25.01.2022 Yesterday we were fortunate enough to host the Director General of Education Ms Lisa Rodgers and her executive team, who were here to have genuine conversations around education and the challenges we face in Leonora and the wider region. What was absolutely clear was that everyone in our community wants the very best for their children. By working in partnership we can create successful pathways for our students, with a commitment from the department to support and assist in every aspect of this continuing journey.

24.01.2022 Well done to all the award winners! Thank you to everyone who attended the night. It was a little tricky with the weather. A special thank you to all our award sponsors. The students did us all proud. Reports will be issued next week with school finishing on Thursday.

24.01.2022 The annual Saracen - Leonora DHS Art Competition is now on at the Leonora CRC! Our staff got in early to see the exhibition this afternoon. Head on down to the CRC to see the students’ amazing artwork and cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award! Special thank you to Saracen for sponsoring the competition, the Leonora Shire for providing the CRC gallery space and the Leonora DHS staff for setting up the exhibition.

11.01.2022 The High School students went to Laverton to participate in STEM activities ran by Fire Tech Australia. How good do they look in their school uniforms! They participated in flying a drone, learning how to program Sphero BOLT, augumented reality/virtual reality and microbits programming. The students were told by software engineers, programmers and game designers about the importance of learning STEM as different industries like people driving trucks in Perth without being on site using drone technology. The catch is someone needs to program the different technologies to make them work. Who is the next programmer?

07.01.2022 Ahoy, Me Hearties! Did ye know that the 19th of September is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? We celebrated at school last week because we love to live our Leonora DHS core vale, We Have Fun! We started the morning with Ship to Shore Fitness, followed by a treasure hunt. Each class had their own set of clues that they followed around the school until they found treasure! They then set to work back in class, writing about their experience and doing some pirate-y craft! A special thank you to Miss Lane for organising all of our swashbuckling fun!

06.01.2022 Due to staff out sick, Kindy will be up with Pre Primary again today. Apologies for any inconvienence.

05.01.2022 Excitement this morning as our new basketball court surface is finished and ready to play on!! Doesn’t it look fantastic? Thanks to the workmen who spent the week here laying the turf and getting it ready for us!

05.01.2022 The Bush Rangers Cadets went out to the Breakaways to show Richard Olive from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, a program coordinator for the Bush and River Rangers Cadet units around WA, to show him around about what we do in our local environment and some of the challenges we face.... like not bringing a hot plate to cook lunch. More on that later. The cadets took measurements and photos of some of the plants and flowers. As we haven't had much r...ain around here this year, it would be interesting to see what plants will flower. We also explain how we follow kangaroo pads to get to a water hole. The students were in their element to try to follow a kangaroo tracks to see where they led but time was not a friend so we had to abandoned the tracking. The cadets were very comfortable finding their way back to the bus through dense vegetation, leaving the experienced adults to fend for themselves. Thanks kids Their task before lunch was to light a fire to cook lunch. It took 8 mins for the first group to light the fire using flints. Much better conditions compared to last time where it took over 40mins in strong winds. Ms Carson showed a couple of cadets how to cook patties in al foil then they taught the others. Maybe Ms Carson should get the cadets to figure it out for themselves next time Good news is none of them had burned their patties! One cadet asked how long would it take to cook the pattie. We'll find out.... They had to learn how to adjust the heat by using the right amount of coals to cook their meat. We dropped by Malcolm Dam on the way back to show the effects of the lack of rain and the condition of the water in the dam. It was a great day out bush with cadets helping and supporting each other to not give up. Well done!

05.01.2022 It’s Carnival Day. The sports ground is all ready to go. It’s time to get up and get to school on time. We’d love to see the whole community down there to support our emerging champions. Centrecare is supporting the day by be cooking up a feed and we’d love you to join us.

03.01.2022 Well done to all our students for trying their hardest at the Interschool Athletics Carnival yesterday! Everyone is a winner for trying their hardest and HAVING FUN! We are very proud of our students for supporting each other. Gilroy, Leneesha (joint winner) and DJ took out the championship for their respective year groups. A special mention to Lummell (Year 4) for running in the Year 6 races and blitzed the competition! Thank you to the parents and community for coming out to support our students! Special thanks to HOPE for supplying extra fruits and water!

03.01.2022 Wow what a day. Here are just a few photos taken from today’s Athletics carnival. A big heartfelt thank you to all the community who came down to support the school to make it so successful. Look out kids the staff and community almost had you in that relay. To Bega, Centrecare and St Johns who all gave up their time to be there. But also to the amazing staff, especially Ms Carson, who go well and truly beyond the call of duty to give their all, to ensure days like these will live in our students memories for ever. Thank you! Bridgid Lafferty.

03.01.2022 Due to staff away, KindiLink has been cancelled today. Apologies for the inconvienence.

01.01.2022 On behalf of Leonora DHS and Jennette Maxfield I would like inform the parents, guardians and the wider Leonora community that Jennette Maxfield has won a position in Perth to be closer family. She has asked me to pass on her best wishes and her thanks for all the support she has received in Leonora in her time here. She does hope to come up and say goodbye in the near future. As a result of this appointment I have been asked to continue in the role until the end of year. I look forward to meeting and working with the community. Bridgid Lafferty

01.01.2022 We had a very busy day at school today! A few High School students went to the Ride4Life morning tea at the CRC to meet the riders and listen to their message they are spreading about mental health. They even had turns sitting on a Harley Davidson. We are so proud of them for representing the school at this event. Before lunch, we had the combined Form A and Form B assembly. Beautiful Talk 4 Writing performances from both classes. Congratulations to all the 90% attenders and awards winners for your hard work in class. Keep it up everyone! There's a rumour around the school that plenty of students have achieved higher reading levels after all their hard work Wonder who they are?? Will they be our next awards winners? Find out at the next assembly on Friday, 18th September!
