12.01.2022 Recognise this beard? It's been all over your TV this bushfire season. Meet Auslan interpreter Sean Sweeney.

12.01.2022 They’ve survived the dinosaurs, and they’re surviving this season’s bushfires NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service just confirmed some fantastic news: the ...prehistoric Wollemi Pines have been confirmed as safe, thanks to a secret mission by NPWS firefighters working in partnership with the NSW Rural Fire Service. Wollemi National Park is the only place in the world where these trees are found in the wild and, with less than 200 left, a military-style operation was put in place to save them from one of the largest bushfires ever seen in NSW, they wrote on Facebook. The operation included large air tankers laying fire retardant to head off multiple fire fronts, and specialist NPWS firefighters being winched into the remote site from helicopters to set up an irrigation system in the gorge. In advance of the fire, NPWS firefighters were again winched into the site to operate the irrigation system and as the fires approached, helicopters water bucketed the fire edge to reduce its impact on the groves of trees. The operation was a success - while some trees have been charred, a detailed scientific assessment has confirmed the species is set to survive the bushfire season. The biggest threat to the Wollemi Pines remains illegal visitation and the risk of introducing disease. The location remains confidential and public access is not permitted. : DPIE via NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

11.01.2022 In true Horsley Park spirit, our crew are heading out today as part of a Cumberland Zone Strike Team in memory of Geoff and Andrew. To all crews in the field today, stay safe and look after each other.

11.01.2022 An emotional, yet precious and special time, this morning with members of the Horsley Park NSW Rural Fire Service today who are truly grieving the unfathomable... loss of their highly valued and much loved members, Geoff and Andrew who tragically died last night whilst fire fighting when a tree fell and impacted their tanker causing it to roll over. The helmets of lost members, Geoff and Andrew, have been placed on the Memorial in the station's front garden and those injured, Tim, Ben & Carlos, on the bonnet of their Cat9 tanker. Extraordinary generosity and support with the placement of floral tributes, visits and well wishes, as well as the delivery of food and drinks as an expression of support and care. Thanks again to Captain Darren Nation and all members for such meaningful and heartfelt discussions today. Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with all family, friends and loved ones today, and of course, all the extraordinary Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade members. See more

07.01.2022 Severe fire danger is forecast across south eastern NSW and the ACT for Saturday. Under these conditions, a number of fires will spread and may threaten propert...ies. Embers may be blown ahead of fires and could start spot fires. This map shows the potential spread of fire. The dark red areas show locations where fire may spread. If you’re in one of these areas, you may be impacted by fire. If your plan is to leave, leave early and avoid being in these areas during the heat of the day. The red dotted area shows locations which may experience embers. These may be blown from fires which are currently contained, or from fires as they spread. Watch out for spot fires and be ready to take action. If you choose to stay and are impacted by fire, you may not be able to leave. If you’re in one of these areas: - Check your bush fire survival plan. Know what you will do if the fire threatens your area. - Make final property preparations now. - Leaving early is your safest option. Don’t wait until it’s too late, as roads may be impacted. Stay up to date on bush fires in your area by checking www.rfs.nsw.gov.au, the Fires Near Me NSW app, social media and local radio. If you’re in the ACT, monitor ACT Emergency Services Agency at www.esa.act.gov.au. You can download higher resolution maps at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//fire-spread-prediction-for-sat
