24.01.2022 GOOD NEWS ABOUT TRAVEL BANS AND CORONAVIRUS FOR VISA HOLDERS ONSHORE DOHA says onshore visa holders CAN EXTEND their stay by applying for an appropriate visa. This may be a visitor visa.... DOHA also says it has put extra resources into applications for WAIVER OF NO FURTHER STAY CONDITIONS because of the increased volume of requests. FOR VISA HOLDERS OFFSHORE If you are required to enter by a specified date but cannot do so you can request an extension to the entry date. MEANWHILE The current travel bans for those arriving from Mainland China, Iran and Italy remain in place. As of midnight tonight, 15 March 2020 all those arriving in Australia (including Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents) are required to self isolate for 14 days. Some states have already introduced heavy penalties for those who do not comply.
22.01.2022 MORE NEWS ABOUT GENERAL SKILLED MIGRATION FROM DIAC The pass mark for the new SkillSelect visa subclasses 189, 190 and 489 will be 60 points. Intending migrants will first need to submit an expression of interest (EOI) and be invited to make an application for these visas. A Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesman said the change to the pass mark was in the context of the series of reforms to the skilled migration program undertaken by the Australian Government si...nce 2008. These reforms have ensured the skilled migration program is a responsive and demand driven program, the spokesman said. The cornerstone of this migration reform package will be the introduction of SkillSelect from July 1. SkillSelect is a new electronic service for managing the skilled migration program. Intending migrants without an employer sponsor wanting to live and work in Australia will need to complete an online EOI, then based on claims of their skills and attributes, will be allocated a score against the points test. SkillSelect will rank intending migrant’s scores against other EOIs. The highest ranking migrants across a broad range of occupations may be invited to apply for a skilled visa. Delivery of a balanced migration program requires careful management, the spokesman said. SkillSelect will provide greater control over who can apply for a skilled visa and when they can apply. The previous pass mark was appropriate in the context of the skilled migration reforms, with a greater emphasis on employer-sponsored skilled migration and managing a growing pipeline of unsponsored skilled migration applications. The pass mark for existing general skilled migration subclasses 175, 176, 475, 487, 885 and 886 will remain at 65 points. The pass mark for the new SkillSelect visas will encourage a broader range of people with the skills and attributes needed in Australia to register their interest in migration.

19.01.2022 While most Aussies focus on arriving at their travel destination, very few consider the power of the document that lets them leave the country -- their passport -- which happens to be amongst the world’s most powerful. http://www.ibtimes.com.au/most-powerful-passports-world-aus
18.01.2022 The Subclass 482 visa SHORT TERM STREAM The Short-term stream has a maximum stay of two years and can be renewed onshore only once (unless this would be inconsistent with international trade obligations) This means that certain countries may have an advantage. Persons who are not eligible to apply for a further Short-term stream visa onshore are expected to depart Australia at the end of their visa but may reapply from outside Australia. ... Another criterion requires assessment of whether the applicant genuinely intends to stay in Australia temporarily, having regard to the applicant’s circumstances, immigration history, compliance with visa conditions and other relevant matters. There is a requirement that the primary applicant has at least two years relevant work experience. This is said to ensure that the applicant has the skills to do the job and contribute to Australia’s economy. It also encourages businesses to consider training and developing the skills of Australians before turning to overseas workers to address skill shortages. Relevant work experience will be considered in the context of the nominated occupation, and experience in related roles and flexible working arrangements may be recognised; The English requirement for the Short-term stream will be the same as applied to the Subclass 457 visa. More news coming soon...
14.01.2022 NEPAL STUDENT VISA VET SECTOR UPDATE From 1 May 2019, all Nepalese citizens (both in and outside Australia) applying for a Student visa in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector will be required to provide evidentiary documentation of English and Financial capacity irrespective of the education provider or country evidence levels. This means a ‘Streamlined’ student visa applicant from Nepal wishing to study a VET sector course in Australia will also need to sub...mit documents that prove their English language ability and financial capacity to pay for their studies, living expenses and dependents (if any) at the time they lodge their visa application. DELAYS WILL OCCUR IF THE EVIDENCE IS NOT PROVIDED. The Department’s explanation as to why is this required? Nepal is currently the third largest source country for international students in Australia, following China and India. At the same time, Nepal is only the 47th largest country by population in the world. While the Student visa program is demand driven and there appears to be strong demand out of Nepal, the Department has a responsibility to students, education providers and the Australian community to ensure that the demand is sustainable and that the international education sector is not exposed to undue risk. The VET sector is a key driver of international education and provides an important pathway for students to gain qualifications and specific skills across a wide range of industries. The Department acknowledges this position and is undertaking these steps to ensure growth in the sector is sustainable and to protect the welfare of vulnerable students.

12.01.2022 The Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa regulations have been released and will commence on 18 March 2018. The Subclass 482 visa enables employers to access a temporary skilled overseas worker if an appropriately skilled Australian worker is unavailable. An overseas worker must be nominated by a sponsoring business and obtain a Subclass 482 visa before they can commence work in Australia. The Subclass 482 visa has three streams:... Short-term stream this stream allows employers to source skilled overseas workers in occupations on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) for a maximum of two years (or up to four years if the two year limitation would be inconsistent with an international trade obligation); Medium-term stream this stream allows employers to source skilled overseas workers for occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) for up to four years; and Labour Agreement stream this stream allows employers to source skilled overseas workers in accordance with a labour agreement with the Commonwealth, where there is a demonstrated need that cannot be met in the Australian labour market and standard visa programs are not available. SOME GOOD NEWS - Changes to eligibility requirements for the Temporary Residence Transition stream in the Subclass 186 and Subclass 187 visas will not apply to persons who held or had applied for a Subclass 457 visa when the changes were announced by the Government on 18 April 2017. 05.01.2022 Study pathways are available to offshore students as well. Students must do a statement of purpose which indicates they are genuine temporary entrants in order to get their student visa. Education Agents who get commission from the education provider are often not concerned about the courses they recommend and whether there is a permanent residence pathway. Happy to confer with students to discuss individual best study options.
