25.01.2022 Weekly local COVID-19 update: As of this morning, there are only three active COVID-19 cases recorded in Port Phillip, with just one in St Kilda and no known active cases in Elwood, Balaclava, St Kilda East or Ripponlea. Visit the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website for the latest daily update on COVID-19, and view their latest media release for case numbers by local government area. DHHS also provides a breakdown of active case numbers by postcode. This data is updated daily and can be found in the epidemiological report on the DHHS website.

21.01.2022 Art, creativity and innovation are part of the DNA of Port Phillip. We have a strong cultural heritage that brings colour and meaning to our lives and has shaped how our community sees itself. Creative industries account for over a third of our economic activity and are the second largest employer in Port Phillip comprising art, culture, dance, design, fashion, film and television, media, music, theatre and photography. We are home to almost 500 identified creative spaces ...and businesses. Artists, actors, designers are our neighbours. COVID-19 froze our arts and creative industries. While funding support at a federal level is welcome, it’s limited and doesn’t preference small and medium sized venues and studios like many of the ones we have here in Port Phillip. More localised, immediate recovery and alternatives for the industry need to be of focus, in addition to the longer-term outlook. I don’t have all the answers, but I know that there’s a lot that can be done at a local level. We need our arts and creative industries more than ever. So especially now, we must continue to support the arts in all forms. I support an expansion of the existing $180,000 of relief allocated for our arts and creative industries. I support considered community planning and decision making as to the reallocation of the $1,700,000 saved due to the suspension of St Kilda Festival in 2021. I support initiatives like Renew Fitzroy Street a program that will activate vacant commercial spaces by incubating short-term uses with creative enterprises and independent local businesses. I support exploring new digital, virtual, distanced, outdoor and other COVID-friendly ways of revitalising our arts and creative industries in a post-pandemic world.

21.01.2022 This is great news for my industry and for anyone looking for a place to call home, be it to buy or to rent

21.01.2022 My great, great grandfather served as a Councillor (1930 to 1948) and Mayor (1939 to 1940) of the City of South Melbourne. Cr Jeremiah James Curtain received formal recognition for his service to our community, notably for forming the Civic Patriotic Fund for the troops, raising 3,574 (the equivalent of around $320,000 today). In the mid-1990s, the City of South Melbourne was amalgamated with the Cities of St Kilda and Port Melbourne to create the City of Port Phillip we kn...ow of today. It would be an honour to follow in his footsteps.

17.01.2022 THANK YOU everyone for attending tonight. I had the best time and I’m so grateful for your support!!!

15.01.2022 My vision for Port Phillip is one where: - All members of our community are able to meet their needs - Opportunities and privileges are fairly distributed... - Local amenities, services, businesses and industries are supported and enhanced - The climate crisis is addressed and sustainable initiatives are implemented I’m young, enthusiastic, progressive and fiercely independent. I'm the only Canal Ward candidate who is not a member a political party. I'm no wallflower. I have a degree in psychology and I understand people. I'm local and I understand what matters to Port Phillip. I'm a landlord, tenant, licensed estate agent and strong negotiator. I always fight for what's just and fair. My flyers will be hitting Elwood, Balaclava, Ripponlea and St Kilda East letterboxes on Monday and Tuesday. Ballot packs will start arriving shortly thereafter. Thank you all for your support so far, we're on the home stretch now.

11.01.2022 I've just received the last print issue of Divercity in my letterbox. After over 100 deliveries, the magazine will now move online only. Divercity online will continue celebrate our community and will also provide timely and responsive content, the opportunity for more frequent distribution and a greatly reduced environmental impact. You’ll need to subscribe to be added to the digital mailing list: http://news.portphillip.vic.gov.au/cn/afv76/divercity

09.01.2022 I'm one of the 51,000 women and 57,000 young people who call Port Phillip home. I'm enthusiastic, progressive and fiercely independent. I'm standing for our people, our places and our planet. I'm committed to enhancing our health and wellbeing, protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, advocating for our early education and child care services and revitalising our arts and creative industries. ... I'm committed to supporting sustainable initiatives to combat climate change by pursuing zero emission policies and implementing recycling strategies and exploring opportunities for new and existing green, open spaces within our municipality. Feeling connected to our neighbourhood has never been more important and now more than ever, our local government needs to be about more than just rates, roads and rubbish. If elected, I'll be proactive, collaborative and pragmatic. I'm committed to ensuring recovery support for our services, businesses and industries as we emerge from this global health and economic crisis. I'm a daughter, granddaughter, adoptive greyhound mother and lifelong local. I love where we live, I'm excited for our future and I want to see our unique culture thrive. It would be an honour to represent you. Please dedicate your number one vote to me.

06.01.2022 If candidates choose to omit their political party affiliations from their official candidate statements, how to vote cards, social media posts or other advertising material - It makes it hard for voters to know who they're really voting for. Unless candidates are asked directly, there may be no obvious way of knowing if they're a member of a political party. Most candidates are forthcoming, maybe because they're proud of their political affiliations, which is totally fine an...d actually makes perfect sense. But some candidates are not, and some political parties don't officially endorse their candidates, meaning that members of such parties can market themselves as "independents" and omit their party allegiances when running for local government. I hate this! I'm the only candidate running for Canal Ward who is not a member of a political party. And don't get me wrong, there's nothing necessarily wrong with being a member of a political party - My point is that this information should be public. Because only then can voters make an informed decision about who will represent them.

04.01.2022 Vote #1 for Lesley G Pianella, your independent Canal Ward candidate in the City of Port Phillip's 2020 local government election.
