25.01.2022 Simply listing goals you want to achieve in 2021 is an undercooked way to set yourself up for success. Examining the factors motivating each goal, understanding your values and character strengths, and creating a solid action plan are essential to attaining your aims. That said, to enjoy a fulfilling 2021, making resolutions is not the only way to set the tone for your year. I have personally taken a 'word for the year approach' the past few years. 23.01.2022 I've always been a writer, but the capacity in which I have written has varied extremely over the years. I was editor-in-chief of my high school's literary magazine. I kept a travel blog from 2003-2005. I studied writing and literature when I lived in NYC and was particularly prolific in poetry. I've taught academic writing in Australian Universities. 22.01.2022 I recently made a YouTube video calling out 'toxic positivity' in the context of social justice issues. This is something I feel very strongly about, having been mired in 'positive vibes only' messages which are pervasive in the personal development community. It needs to stop. Seriously. The article makes an interesting analogy between having a positive attitude and eating ice cream. 11.01.2022 I get asked a lot of questions when I reveal that my husband and I are polyamorous. Some of the most frequent: Isn't that just an excuse for cheating?? Answer: No. Are you just unhappy in your relationship? Answer: No.... Why did you get married then? Answer: (Oh, ffs ) Because we want to build a life together. Are you hitting on me? Answer: Okay, okay, this one is a bit of an exaggeration, but, yes, I have often been met with reactions that suggest that 'outing' myself as poly is some indication of my interest in the person to whom I am speaking. It is absolutely not. If I am interested, trust me, you will know ! So, we can sleep together then? We'll have to be discreet, though, because I have a partner. Answer: Aaaaaargh! No! Poly is not all about sex! Aaaand, the big one... But don't you get jealous?? Jealousy is not an indicator of love. It's a complex emotion that manifests itself differently from person-to-person. This is one of the better articles I've read on this subject. The title is a bit misleading, as the contents of the article focus more on managing jealousy, rather than eliminating it.
