25.01.2022 Hi Everyone, As you may have heard there has been a so called çyber attack in Europe this morning. This is more accurately described as a ransomware outbreak where a new variant of ransomware virus has been released. Ransomware is a type of malware or virus which infects a computer and after making contact with its source via the internet starts to encrypt any electronic files it can access rendering them unusable. The encryption is unbreakable and the ransomware them deman...ds a payment to decrypt the files. While you are protected with antivirus, unfortunately no protection is 100% effective so we need to be on guard. Please be vigilant and in particular look out for the following: - Do not open emails that appear suspicious or from senders you dont recognise - Never open an attachment in an email that you are in any way uncertain of - Never click on a hyperlink that you are in any way uncertain of - Never accept prompts that may appear on your computer that you dont recognise particularly that are about installing a program - Do not connect USB devices to your computer that are not for work purposes - If youre unsure of something let IT Support know who can verify it for you At home you should ensure that your personal computer has the latest software updates from Windows update (or Apple if you have a Mac) and that you have an antivirus program that is up to date and is scanning your computer. You should also ensure you backup all your important files to an external hard drive frequently and should not leave this backup drive connected to your computer.
