Let us know how you go with this recipe!

25.01.2022 Self-doubt is something all of us experience at some stage in life. ? ? ' , , , ?. Do these sound familiar? Overcoming self-doubt and believing in ourselves are vital on the road to unlocking our true potential, just ask our Positive Futures youth worker Dan.... Despite all his incredible achievements, Dan never believed he could or would be able to go to university and complete his tertiary education. Still till this day surprised and ecstatic that he was able to, overcoming his own self-doubt led him to his proudest achievement, completing his university degree and becoming a qualified youth worker. What is something you have achieved that you never thought you could? What accomplishment are you most proud of?
24.01.2022 Today is a very special day. Father's Day isn't just a day of gifting tools and eating pies but a celebration of all the amazing fathers and father-like figures out there who are supporting their families during these difficult times of the COVID-19 crisis. We know that there are many different types of dads. Father figures come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes other special people in our lives take the role of dad. Were also thinking of all the people who have lost... their dad or maybe their dad has been absent in their lives. To brighten your day and to celebrate dads and father figures across Australia, were sharing a special series of dad jokes. You know, those jokes that make your eyes roll? Or the ones where your dad is the only person who thinks its funny! Pick your favourite joke and tag a dad (or a friend) .

22.01.2022 Our founder, Les Twentyman OAM, writes in todays Herald Sun that more needs to be done to support our childrens learning during this pandemic. "Right now in Melbourne, in the midst of this second hard lockdown, there are thousands of children who are deciding to depart from their education. They are filled with hopelessness, angered at the life that lays ahead. Some as young as primary age will never set foot in a classroom again.... As a society we cannot allow this to happen and must take immediate steps to put in place the support mechanisms to assist these kids and their families.... At the Les Twentyman Foundation we call this program, which is running in four schools with the support of the federal government, Positive Futures, because that is what every child deserves - an opportunity at a positive future in life."
21.01.2022 Earlier this year, we held our 11th annual Kids vs Cops cricket match which was great fun! Assistant Police Commissioner for the North West region Luke Cornelius joined police from the northern and western suburbs, coming together with kids from the Les Twentyman Foundation, for a game of cricket at Merv Hughes oval. We have a long history of engaging with youth through sport and the purpose of the event was to improve the relationships and understanding between police and y...oung people in a fun and supportive environment. On the photo, the boy on the left from Graeme, one of our youth workers, won player of the day trophy. Graeme has been with the Les Twentyman Foundation for over 2 years now, supporting Melbourne youth. He saw many young people struggle in life and at school when he was young. Seeing it affected his choices. Later in life, Graeme wanted to change his career to support young people and their families, create impact and bring change that really matters to him. Graeme is a rock for many kids today! #LTFTeam

20.01.2022 Many of our young people don't always have the best role models to rely on, learn from and be guided by. It isn't surprising that our leadership program participants exhibit such big improvements in their sense of achievement and belonging - they are finding their voices, learning how to trust themselves and people around them, becoming the leaders of tomorrow. They are truly inspiring! You support helps us continue doing our work, which is in a great demand right now. ... Consider donating today: https://www.ltfoundation.com.au/donate/

20.01.2022 Remote learning has been challenging for everyone, says Dan Andrews MP and some kids have found it a bit more difficult than others. To give these students some extra individual support, Victorian government are placing more than 4,100 tutors in classrooms around the state from 2021. The $250 million package is the single biggest boost to individual learning support in Victoria’s history, and will make sure any student who may have fallen behind or become disengaged gets the... help they deserve. The package will support more than 200,000 students across the state. This is great news! You can read more about the package: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/thousands-tutors-bring-stude And while this is in the early stages of rolling out, we continue supporting young people who are falling off their educational trajectory, helping them stay connected and motivated. 10.01.2022 Today is a very special day. Fathers Day isnt just a day of gifting tools and eating pies but a celebration of all the amazing fathers and father-like figures out there who are supporting their families during these difficult times of the COVID-19 crisis.

09.01.2022 Our has directly assisted more than 16,500 school students and over 400 university students . The program provides kids with much more than school essentials, it gives them the confidence to go to school with the dignity of having the books and stationary that everyone else has when they arrive for the new school year . Unfortunately, we know that some of kids experience bullying when they don't have the right school books or a uniform that fits properly. Our Back to School program ensure that kids can feel excited and thrive at school because every child deserves an equal education.
09.01.2022 A very important piece of research conducted by The University of Queensland and supported by Paul Ramsay Foundation. It reflects feedback from our youth workers that COVID-19 has had a very significant impact on education for at-risk young people. We’ve seen increasing numbers of students not return to school following remote learning. In addition to school refusal, we’ve also observed increased mental health issues and more anxiety. The ripple effect of the issues impacts... on behaviours, friendships and teacher workloads. Our Positive Futures program is playing an important role in four schools across Melbourne reaching out to families and reconnecting kids with their education and supporting their resilience during these difficult times. This program is funded by the Australian Government (thanks Jason Wood) and schools and is supported by research that shows its making a positive difference to hundreds of kids. Our goal is to expand this program to reach more young people so that we can ensure they don’t falll through the cracks of this pandemic.
09.01.2022 The Positive Futures team provided ‘Student Engagement Packs’ to some of the young people we work with during recent remote learning, in an effort to give kids a break from digital communication and also get the family involved in some different activities. Some of our students have been busy baking sweet treats with Sean, we’re sure they taste just as great as they look, Amazing effort!
08.01.2022 It's concerning to see that some Victorian kids viewed the last weeks of remote learning as 'optional'. We know that learning at home was very difficult for many students and some need additional support right now to stay engaged in their learning. Read our founder's, Les Twentyman OAM, opinion piece in the Herald Sun on how to keep kids in classrooms and out of court rooms.
07.01.2022 Our Youth Worker Dan and his students at Berwick Secondary College opened a coffee shop on campus in early 2019 as a social enterprise for our young people to maintain and manage. The surf life saving club at school generously paid for free coffees for all staff. The kids made 116 coffees and iced drinks over 4 hours, which is roughly 1 coffee every 2 minutes. Dan could not be more proud of our young people's efforts and resilience " ... , , .. , , . / ."-Dan Lipscombe Amazing effort and we thank the surf life saving club for their support.
07.01.2022 Our Basketball Program has provided guidance to thousands of young people through sport, teamwork and cultural awareness. ' ' , , ', is some of the feedback we receive from our youth today. Our Basketball Club isn't just a game of basketball, but a source of inclusion and belonging. ... Many say, ' ' , ' '. Through the game of basketball we aim to introduce young people to the bigger game - their own LIVES.
07.01.2022 Your feelings are valid . Tag a friend to remind them.
07.01.2022 We know this year has been a struggle for everyone: kids, parents and teachers. Were committed to supporting Victorias most at risk young people remain engaged in education, and are excited to announce a new program Bounce Back Tutoring, in partnership with Triumph Tutoring. Here, at the Les Twentyman Foundation we have been fortunate to receive sponsorship from Beacon Lighting to provide up to 20 (!!) young people with one-on-one tutoring sessions over the next few months, to ensure they feel confident to walk into the exam room, and 2021 . Best of luck to all VCE students with your exams! And best of luck to all students with completing 2020 and starting fresh in 2021.
07.01.2022 Last month, we celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child with a small group of diverse young women from our EMBRACE program, who shared their honest and refreshing perspective on what it means to be a young woman in Australia. On the day, we asked the girls to share their own advice to younger selves. These are priceless! Courtney Hall said, "" ! ' ' ... ' . ' ' . . . ' ' ."" 07.01.2022 Hey, we want to remind you that we are living in unprecedented times at the moment, which calls for unexpected things and feelings in our lives. Whatever you are experiencing right now is okay. And it wont last forever, it will pass. Tag someone who really needs this little reminder today.
07.01.2022 | Throughout these challenging times, the Les Twentyman Foundation has continued to provide critical services to young people at risk of falling through the cracks of this pandemic. The young people and families in our programs were already doing it tough before COVID-19. Now, were increasingly concerned about how stress and anxiety is impacting young people and their education.... We know that remote learning is very difficult for some students. We also know that many students are experiencing escalating mental health issues or even problems for the very first time. Our Positive Futures program urgently needs to be expanded to more Victorian schools so that youth workers can do what they best. That is, supporting the social-emotional development, wellbeing and resilience of young people. Because all kids deserve a positive future. Stay safe .
06.01.2022 Some days are brilliant. And some days suck! It's okay to have bad days. At the end of a bad day, there is always another day.
06.01.2022 Lockdown has provided us all with an opportunity to slow down and create new positive habits. For some people it's going for walks, doing more exercise, planting a vegie patch or cooking family meals. For our CEO, Renee Hancock, the lockdown has granted more time to settle in with a good book! Renee was delighted to receive a copy of Alice Pung's book in the mail. Alice is an ambassador for the Les Twentyman Foundation and an inspiration to many young writers.... is a collection of writing about topics such as migration, family, art, belonging and identity. Renee says that despite being in lockdown, the first essay in the book made her feel like she was back walking through the Footscray Market. She says the sights, smells and sounds of the Market is something our entire team misses while working from home - as our office is practically next door! Alice's essay gives an insight into the stories behind the stallholders. What are you reading right now? Check it out here: https://www.blackincbooks.com.au/books/close-home
06.01.2022 Self-doubt is something all of us experience at some stage in life. ? ? , , , ?.
06.01.2022 Our CEO, Renee Hancock, says that many families have experienced a double whammy during this pandemic - the increased costs of having their children at home full time and a loss or reduction in income. Families tell us that being able to access healthy and nutritious food is a concern due to tighter budgets and lock-down restrictions. One parent shared that shopping in multiple supermarkets to find the cheapest prices has become unfeasible and with children at home for longe...r periods the grocery bill is increasing. Over the past four months, weve provided hundreds of families with pantry staples, fresh fruit, vegetables and quality Australian meat with the support of our donors. We continue to experience more enquiries for this type of support. While the increased JobSeeker payment has made a difference to many young people and families financial hardship, and the stresses associated with it, still remain a major concern. If the Government goes ahead with its plans to cut Jobseeker by $300 per fortnight, this will have a devastating impact on young people and families living on low incomes. Its absolutely critical that the Government recognises that now is time to permanently and substantially raise the rate of income support payments. 06.01.2022 Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today and it remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. And this is why we want to take this opportunity to highlight this long standing problem. This fight belongs to all of us: all genders, races, socio-economic statuses and per...sonal circumstances. We have been watching many amazing women and girls in our organisation and leadership programs grow and find their voices, creating the change we want to see in the world. We also need your help. We cannot do this alone. You cannot do this alone. Let's spread the message all around the Internet and the world - share this post and have more important conversations today to help eliminate violence against women and girls. 05.01.2022 Teachers have a huge impact on children, with many of us being able to recall a positive lesson or piece of advice given to us by teachers decades later. When we asked staff who their childhood hero was, our Youth Worker Sean shared his hero - his high school teachers: "This teacher understood my flaws and looked past my poor choices. This teacher showed me that the world wasn’t against me and helped to guide me back to a happier path."... Thank you to all the teachers for all your hard work, patience, resilience and dedication to our children's education and lives. It has been a hard year for all, yet they have overcome many challenges to ensure learnings continue, and we are so grateful. #LTFTeam
05.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on the inadequacy and indignity of the income support that our nation provides to people unable to find a job and those who are unable to work. 05.01.2022 As youth unemployment looks set to peak, COVID-19 is a chance to address the existing problems for younger Australian workers. Although young people may have minimal risk from the virus itself, the risk of financial impacts of COVID-19 are significantly high for our youth due to the industries they often work in, like hospitality and retail. The longer our young people are out of work the more likely their skills will deteriorate, along with their self-esteem and overall ment...al health. More than one quarter of young workers are employed on a casual basis and have been with their current employer for less than 12 months, which makes them ineligible for the Federal Government’s JobKeeper payment. This has substantial negative financial impacts and reduces their ability to swiftly return to their previous job roles. All this will have a long-lasting negative effect on a whole generation of Australians. Check out the The University of Melbourne article online: http://bit.ly/IMPACTONYOUTH
05.01.2022 Our employees at Les Twentyman Foundation are like one big family, and with current restrictions we all miss not being able to see one another. To acknowledge R U OK Day, we took some time out today as team members met in pairs to have a chat and see how they are feeling. Please take this day to check in on your loved ones, everyday is a day to start a conversation that could change a life.
05.01.2022 One of our YSS Youth Workers, Gum Mamur tried his hand in the game of basketball when he first arrived to Australia, which he now sees as a metaphor for off-court life. He says "I'll show you respect, you show me respect - treat people with respect regardless of their age and where they come from." Gum's mantra has been immensely helpful in his work with Melbourne youth. Gum arrived in Australia as a 12-year old young man, directly from Kenya's Kakuma Refugee Camp. He couldn...'t speak English, and says he had few skills to deal with life in his adopted country. Today, he is one of our well-respected and trusted connections to many young people, who have also adopted this country as their own. Our founder, Les Twentyman says that no-one ever teaches young Sudanese kids how to be Australian. There is a growing concern around the absence of suitable programs for primary-age children from diverse backgrounds. This is why amazing youth workers like Gum and Les (and many others!) have been providing positive intervention and unconditional support for our at-risk youth through our programs and services. We feel very honoured to help create more leaders all around the state. #LTFTeam
05.01.2022 We are excited to see the Victorian Government make a substantial investment in tutoring programs to support the students who have fallen behind in their studies due to the coronavirus pandemic. We have been supporting youth for many decades, focusing on one-on-one, group and outreach work. Our CEO, Renee Hancock appeared on Sky News to talk about the importance of helping kids stay engaged with their education. Renee’s interview provides some highlights from our Positive Fut...ures program which operates at four schools across Melbourne. Students in the program are on the cusp of disengaging with their education, but our work has helped to reduce their absenteeism from school by 60%. What we really need to see right now is more investment in youth workers in Victorian schools . Youth workers are able to complement school work, assisting kids with trauma or difficult circumstances at home, ensuring they stay at school, remain engaged and find a pathway to further education or employment. The long-term ripple effect of youth workers' support is outstanding!
05.01.2022 While Book Week has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still want to celebrate and share some of the Les Twentyman Foundation founders favourite novels. Join us on this exploration of the Les top three picks below: , :... What a fascinating perspective on the Catholic Churchs role in the todays society. Father Bob is a motivator that never fails to think outside the box! He is not blinkered in his own views but tried to understand other peoples positions, which ranks him high amongst Les reads. , : Les is very proud of his book! Focusing on his lifes work, this book is being made into an international documentary, and its a great reminder of all the achievements and magnificent people involved over so many hard working years. : : This is a very compelling insight into the [Victorian] Police Force of yesterday. This read gives a great insight into the old police culture of looking after the boys, yet The Skull maintained his dignity and morals throughout. This is such a good book! What are your top three reads?

04.01.2022 Nyanjuma participated in our EMBRACE program about four years ago. As a University student today, she is looking back at her nurturing time with our program's youth workers. . . . ... ' . EMBRACE is a youth personal development program that enables young people to: better understand themselves and others; build their self-confidence; and develop positive behaviours which improve their health and wellbeing. The program provides young people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds with the opportunity to grow and develop through a series of events, workshops and camps. Life changing experiences like EMBRACE are made possible with the help of our loyal sponsors as well as community donations. The EMBRACE program is proudly supported by the Joe White Bequest. Joe White was a businessman who was very active in the communities of Ballarat and Torquay and later in Melbourne. He died in Brighton at the age of 86, having grown his business, Joe White Maltings, to become Australia’s largest Malting company. The Joe White Bequest was created to ensure a continuing legacy of community contribution and it is through this generosity that we able to offer our EMBRACE program.
03.01.2022 The pressure placed on a young person living in a low socio-economic area is not well understood by those who aren't here. This pressure leads to the young person disconnecting from society in general, sinking into extreme levels of low self-esteem and self-worth and engaging in high-risk activity. Here, at the Les Twentyman Foundation, we aim to reconnect young people with their families and communities enabling them to reach their full potential and make a positive contrib...ution to society. 03.01.2022 We are living in times we have not experienced before. Ever. It's okay to feel all sorts of things right now. One day, today, will become a memory. ""As a kid, I hated losing. I had to learn that mistakes are what we do as human beings"", says Andy Murray, a British professional tennis player from Scotland and an Olympic gold medalist and the reigning U.S. Open champ. He was a long way from understanding that as a 12-year-old, when he made it to the final of the Scottish j...unior championships on his talent and was thrown out because of his temper. Andy wrote him younger self (12 years old) a letter, that says the following: ' ' . . ... ... ' . ' . ' , 12-- . What would you tell your younger self today?
02.01.2022 Victoria has become the first state or territory in Australia to provide free pads and tampons in all government schools. The $20.7 million initiative was first promised in 2018, and has now been rolled out in Victoria’s 1500-plus state schools. Under the initiative, students will also get information about how to manage their periods. This long over-due and important change will help to break down the stigma of periods, while also relieving anxiety and embarrassment for gir...ls at school.
