22.01.2022 Allin Towbars is a South Australian family owned and operated business that has been in operation for 70 years. Proud suppliers to the markets leading car manufacturers. When COVID first hit in April, we saw a large decline in business and were preparing for a forced closure which was terrifying. If it wasn’t for JobKeeper, we would not have had the confidence that our business would survive the turmoil. Fortunately, we weren’t forced to close and the decline in business didn...’t last long. From May 2020 onwards we experienced a spike in business of 20% largely due to a lack of interstate/international suppliers & increased local travel. To manage the increased volume we employed a number of new staff across multiple areas to assist us in focusing on design & quality control. Increased volume meant increased inventory so we sourced extra storage and changed the layout of our premises to allow for this. The volume increase highlighted some inefficient and inaccurate machinery, so we invested in new plant and procedures. The biggest lesson for us was don’t be afraid to slow business down. When the spike in business began we were struggling to keep up with supply and demand. Our culture prides itself in saying "Yes" to everything however during this time we had to shift our focus & slow things down to ensure consistency and quality. We were able to manage our customer’s expectations whilst still upholding our focus on great customer service. Our second lesson was communication. It was imperative our staff were informed on every aspect of the business as to assure them they would be looked after regardless of what Covid threw at us! 13.01.2022 My name is Stacey & I have been the Receptionist at Letcher Moroney since the beginning of January this year. My experience with #COVID was slightly different, as I actually stayed in the office for the majority of the time whilst everyone else was working from home. This was largely due to the front of house duties that were impossible to perform remotely. There were a few other staff members who were also required to work from the office during this time, so having a small... community going through a similar experience was very reassuring especially given the uncertain nature of the pandemic! 06.01.2022 Meet Nick Schapel, Letcher Moroney's Head of Business Advisory. Nick shared with us a little bit about his experience with COVID for our #covidlessons. My experience during COVID was probably a bit different to most at Letcher Moroney. It came at the start of trying to develop the Business Advisory/Letcher Moroney Financial Control division. COVID allowed me to work alone without distraction to build this division.... What helped was the daily zoom video calls with our team. As well as, regular check ins with individual staff to see how each person was coping. As a firm, the tangible help we were providing to clients each and every day was very fulfilling in itself. The biggest challenge for me was developing this new range of service offerings to clients without it sounding like a generic product or insurance policy. I learnt that it is always best to put the initial time into understanding each client by reviewing their business as a whole and having general discussions with the client. This allowed us to get a feel for what each client needed help with and then proceed to package the various services that are specific to the clients needs. This is in the hope to only provide services that are relevant and add value to each specific client.

04.01.2022 Bill Spurling, Senior Accountant and Leader of all Mentors at Letcher Moroney is sharing his #covidlessons with us. In the beginning it was extremely stressful. Firstly, it was difficult to adjust our work and home lives to the new ‘Covid normal’ and secondly, we were worried about how our clients would adjust and stay viable. What got me through Covid was helping our clients through it. As accountants, we were needed more than ever during the pandemic, so our jobs were safe..., this was not always the case for most of our clients. It was rewarding to answer phone calls from worried clients and to be able to finish the call with a lot of their worries gone. THE CHALLENGES - Apart from my wife and I having our first child mid-pandemic, the biggest challenge was the logistics of having everyone work from home. This also became the biggest positive as now many employees could work from home and it has opened lines of communication that we never thought we had. THE LESSONS - The biggest lesson for the year is to always be as flexible as possible. No matter what the situation is, it is always possible to pivot and adjust to produce the best outcomes. Not only has this been shown in the office, but it has also become very apparent in the way our clients manage their business’.
