24.01.2022 Quote of the Day!

23.01.2022 Disruptive Skills Recently I was speaking at a women’s forum. The woman who spoke after me was an amazing artist. Her skills in painting, singing, creativity were unbelievable. It was clear that God had skilled & equipped her. I wouldn’t label myself as a woman who has skilled hands. I can speak, lead, mobilise. But when it comes to sewingpainting, creating new products etc, I don’t even bother. I’m thankful for the strengths God has given me and at the same time admi...re those who can produce masterpieces with their hands. Exodus 35:26 talks of all the women whose hearts stirred them to use their skill spun the goats hair. I don’t know of any women who are spinning goats hair today. But I know a heap of women whoose hearts are being stirred daily by the spirit of God to produce works of art, new products at work, fashion for a new generation, or blankets for the homeless. Sometimes you don’t see what you do as important or spiritual, but can I say your skills and ability to use your hands to create comes straight from the heart of God. You’re creative skills release the beauty of God unto our cities. We need more of it! So keep going. Be disruptive through the work of your hands for the glory of God! Tag a woman you know who is skilled with her hands. #disruptivehands #disruptiveskills To read more stories of disruptive biblical women, order your copy of the little handbook of Disruptive Women Book https://citywomen.myshopify.com/.../letitia-sheltons-books

21.01.2022 The First Women on the frontline of World War 1 Her dream was to be an investigative journalist. It was the summer of 1915, Dorothy Lawrence got on board a boat bound for France with her bicyle & notepad . She was determined to become the first female war correspondent. Shortly after her arrival she was told by editors at the Times that she would have no hope of her dream. This closed door did not stop her. She was so determined that she disguised herself as ...a man in order to get on the front lines of battle. She was going to do whatever it takes no matter the cost! She cycled through the countryside of France, into Paris where she convinced two soldiers in a cafe to smuggle or one of their uniforms to her. Surprisingly they were willing to help. Once she had the uniform, she added extra padding to bulk herself up. Dorothy cut her hair short and used watered down furniture polish on her skin to give herself more of a tan. She was able to forge military identity papers, calling herself Private Denis Smith of the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. She set out for the frontline, sleeping in ditches and haystacks, ,eventually hiding out in a flea invested dug out. One soldier took her under his wing, realising she was a woman. He smuggled her food and supplies & finally agreeing to take her on night shifts with him. Her health let her down, Dorothy began to suffer fainting fits and so handed herself in. She was immediately arrested. British generals didnt know what to do with her as she was not a soldier or a spy. They were shocked that she was willing to put herself into such a dangerous situation on the frontline of war. Eventually Dorothy was sent back to London, homeless & faceless. Had she failed in her dream to be a war correspondent? In the natural it would seem so. But I would say no. To sit on the dreams & desires in our hearts without stepping out and having a go is worse. Let’s not live in fear of failure or unrealised dreams. I’ve been amazed over the years as I’ve taken steps of faith that God had gone before me. Where things didn’t fully work out, Ive still learnt valuable lessons. Imagine how much Dorothy grew through her experience? #disruptivewomen To read more stories of disruptive women, order your copies today. 19.01.2022 The Disruptive Methods of Two Teen Sisters The more I read and research about the women in the Bible and throughout history and even today, the more I am absolutely amazed & inspired by the lengths that they go to in order to fight for life and also to fight against injustice. Sisters Freddie and Truus Oversteegendo do not disappoint. Their weapons?? Lipstick & eyeshadow....oh, and a gun These teen sisters joined the Dutch resistance during world war two. The...y would go into bars, striking up conversations with the Nazi soldiers. They would giggle and flirt, using every bit of their charm and then suggest a romantic walk into the forest to their unsuspecting date. Once they were out in the woods, they would seek to extract out all the information they possibly could & then shoot them dead. While there were other women during World War 2 who were in the resistance fighting the Nazi's, what makes this story uniquie is that it's the only one that includes flirting as a strategy. Truus was such a tomboy she had never even worn make up before the war. They never did reveal just how many Nazi's they killed. They attribute their willingness to fight against evil to their single mum who raised them to help those in need and fight oppression . Both sisters died in 2018 in their 90's. It took years for their efforts to be recognized, Truus was very outspoken, however Freddie was very traumatised, both women suffered from depression and PTSD for years after. War is never nice for anyone & destroys people & families on both sides. These stories are a fascinating insight into what went on. #disruptivemakeup To read more stories of disruptive women, order your copy of the little handbook of Disruptive Women Book 2 Print version https://citywomen.myshopify.com//book-2-the-little-handboo ebook https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084Q2BV5J/ref=sr_1_1

18.01.2022 A remarkable statement from the woman who saved 2,500 babies from certain death during world war 2. I guess rescuing the vulnerable should be normal

17.01.2022 I'm very thankful to have more time in my nation this year and getting around to Australian communities.

16.01.2022 A Disruptive Declaration Do you have an area of life that seems dead, barren, lifeless, and no possibility of hope?? I’m sure most of us could think of something where we have just about given up hope. It’s been years that we have been trusting , praying and believing. But there is no movement and God appears to be silent and missing in action. I’m sure this is how Hannah felt. She could not bear children. She was at the end of herself. She was crying out to God. Her hus...band’s other wife was popping out babies and rubbing it in her face. But for Hannah....nothing. However in the midst of her desperation & despair she prays, Oh Lord of Hosts. (1 Samuel 1:11) She was the first person in the Bible to declare this. In doing so she was indicating her trust in the power & dominion of God over every situation and over every created force. She prayed with such ferver & passion that Eli accused her of being drunk. This prayer of Hannah’s was answered and she gave birth. What do you need to declare God as the Lord of Hosts today? These are powerful words, putting God in His rightful place as sovereign ruler over all. Go ahead and declare these words over areas of your life that seem dead with the same passion that Hannah did. #disruptivedeclaration To read more stories of disruptive biblical women, order your copy of the little handbook of Disruptive Women Book 2 Print version https://citywomen.myshopify.com//book-2-the-little-handboo ebook https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084Q2BV5J/ref=sr_1_1

15.01.2022 Fatima al-Fihri: Founder of the world’s first university Over 1000 years ago, the vision and investment of one woman made way for the founding of the world’s first university: the University of Qarawiyyin in Fez, Morocco Fatima al-Fihri was born into a well educated family and inherited a large amount of money when her father died. Tragically around the same time, her husband & brother died too and so Fatima was on the hunt for a purpose. She invested her wealth... into starting an educational institution for the benefit of her local community which eventually morphed into the University of Qarawiyyin in the year 859 (that's a long time ago). It was the first educational institute in the world (as recognised by UNESCO and Guinness World Records.) As soon as the doors opened students came from all over the world to attend. Fatima herself was a student at the University she started. It was considered a hub for intellectuals, especially during medieval times. Still operating today, one of the major attractions of the Uni is its library which has over 4000 manuscripts & it is now open to the public. One woman with a disruptive vision and willing to invest her inheritance into something greater than herself has made way for hundreds of thousands to be educated. #disruptivevision To read more stories of disruptive women, order your copy of the little handbook of Disruptive Women Book 2 Print version https://citywomen.myshopify.com//book-2-the-little-handboo ebook https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084Q2BV5J/ref=sr_1_1

12.01.2022 She Disrupted Marathon Running Seems hard to believe that up until 1972 women were not permitted to run in the Boston Marathon. So in 1967 when Katherine Switzer submitted her form as KV Switzer, she was planning to disrupt to say the least. Wearing bib number 261, Katherine started the race strong . Other runners were impressed to see her out there along side of them. However not so race manager Jock Semple, he chased after her, grabbing her and yelling ‘Get ...the hell out of my race and give me those numbers!' Running along side of Katherine was her boyfriend Tom, who was a big man and he got rid of Semple. Katherine was feeling pretty shaken by the ordeal of being attacked and was so tempted to quit. She recounts . If I quit, everybody would say it was a publicity stunt. If I quit, it would set women's sports back, way back, instead of forward. If I quit, I'd never run Boston. If I quit, Jock Semple and all those like him would win. My fear and humiliation turned to anger. Katherine finished the race in 4 hours and 20 minutes. She then went on to be the winner of the 1974 New York City Marathon and to be named female runner of the decade by Runner's World Magazine. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2011. At the age of 70 she ran the Boston marathon again, only coming in 10 minutes later than she did in 1967. What a remarkable woman! Katherine disrupted the lie that women dont have the stamina to run marathons, she stated The idea of running long distance was always considered very questionable for women because an arduous activity means you would get big legs, grow a mustache and your uterus was going to fall out. In an effort to counter this absurd notion, she intentionally wore earrings and lipstick for the run. Thank you Katherine for not quitting and paving the way for female runners all over the world!

10.01.2022 The World's First Female Mayor Sometimes we become disruptive by accident. For Susanna Salter, she had no desire to be in politics, let alone run for Mayor of her city in Argonia, Kansas . She was just 27 years of age, a mother of 3 and pregnant with the 4th when a group of men nominated her as a joke without her knowledge. These men wanted to embarrass and defeat the women’s temperance movement. Their ploy was uncovered on election day when Susanna went to vote... and saw her name on the ballot paper. She was asked if she was elected as Mayor, would she serve & Susanna said yes! The intentions of these men backfired when Susanna won the election, putting her as the first woman in power in a USA city. For her efforts she was paid $1. She put up with much opposition and ridicule, but she was not afraid to take up her position as Mayor. She knew more about politics than what her opposition realised. For one year she did a great job, but did not run again the second year round. Susanna lived until the ripe old age of 100 & died in 1961. There are no accidents in God. Even though Susanna had no intentions of being Mayor, God placed her in that role. He knows exactly where He wants you and how to get you there! #disruptivewomen To read more stories of disruptive women, order your copy of the little handbook of Disruptive Women Book 2 Print version https://citywomen.myshopify.com//book-2-the-little-handboo ebook https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084Q2BV5J/ref=sr_1_1

07.01.2022 The books I write are not big. In fact Lyle Shelton calls them pamphlets I write small books because most women I know are raising their kids, looking after a home, working a job and disrupting darkness wherever they can. They don't have time to read for hours. My latest book Disruptive City Women is small but powerful. 03.01.2022 What a Man! When Ruth arrived In Bethlehem with her mother in law Naomi, she was a nobody. Not only was she a foreigner, she was female, poor and barren. It can’t get much worse than that! She was an outsider and she stood out like a sore thumb!... She refused to hide or be a victim, rather she engaged straight away in the ancient welfare system of gleaning. She worked as hard as she could for as much as she could. This work was dangerous, Ruth showed a lot of courage & initiative and it was her strength which caught the eye of Boaz, the owner of the field. He could see that Ruth had placed herself in a position of shame in order to meet her needs and also the needs of her mother in law. It’s at this point that Boaz shows the world what true masculinity looks like. He modelled to the world a laying down of his life and resources to permit Ruth to glean, promising protection for her, but the also promoting her to make sure she could get ahead. Unselfish and sacrificial love. Boaz takes things one step further and invites Ruth to his table at lunch time and then proceeds to serve her, treating her as if she was one of his best employees. Boaz has the power to make or break her life. In a culture that saw women as less, Boaz treated her as someone better than himself. It was a true display of kingdom manhood & love. Thank you Boaz!
