20.01.2022 The threat of feral cats is on the increase in Australia, and we have evidence that there are feral cats in the location of this Night Parrot population. In addition recent drought conditions in this part of Queensland have significantly increased the risk of unmanaged wildfire. These threats of human disturbance, feral cats and unmanaged wildfire are our first priorities in protecting the Night Parrot, and one of the reasons why we need to secure this location and put conservation management plans in place right now.

09.01.2022 As a ground dwelling, nocturnal bird Night Parrots are ideal prey for feral cats. Implementing measures to control feral predators will be one of our first actions. We also need to develop a fire management plan before summer, as the bird’s preferred spinifex habitat is particularly susceptible to unmanaged wildfire. Without action to intervene and reduce these risks the future of this small population is precarious. Please help support our mission and visit www.saveaustralia.com.au today.

08.01.2022 Did you know... Introduced plants and animals pose one of the greatest threats to the survival of many native species and the health of our ecosystems. Introduced plants cause environmental damage by displacing native plants, altering vegetation structure and disrupting natural disturbance regimes (e.g. fire). Introduced and domestic animals such as cats, foxes, livestock and rabbits prey on native species, compete for habitat and resources, and degrade habitat such that it becomes unsuitable for many native species.

08.01.2022 Seems the momentum is building the Queensland Government has today announced a $400,000 funding contribution from its Nature Assist program to support Night Parrot recovery efforts http://www.bushheritage.org.au//media/night-parrot-funding
