24.01.2022 I’ve had multiple enquiries from parents recently about whether I offer an email only sleep support package. Following the recent question poll on my Instagram story asking if anyone else likes this as a sleep support package option - it seems the answer is a big YES! You can now find the ‘Let’s Sleep - Email Sleep Support Package’ on the website. ... This is a great option for families who prefer email communication (for whatever reason at all!). 23.01.2022 Let’s talk about awake times! . This is an absolute essential bit of knowledge for parents/caregivers! . Offering your baby a nap too late or too early can really throw off their sleep and lead to an unsettled bub. It’s quite confusing as you might be settling your baby for a sleep and they appear quite unsettled - so naturally you’de think that they’re overtired... . An under tired baby can actually be just as unsettled as an overtired baby! An overtired and under tired baby can also wake early from naps (after 20-30 mins of being asleep) leading to them not meeting their daily amount of required sleep . So how do you help your baby feel perfectly primed for sleep . Know their age appropriate awake time AND understand their tired cues. Once you see these tired signs - start their wind down nap routine and have them in their cot or bassinet calm but awake within 5-10 minutes. This will help them settle off to sleep so much easier . . #sleepconsultant #sleepconsultantmelbourne #letssleep #letssleepconsulting #babysleeping #multiplebabymamas #twins #twinsofinstagram #twinbrothers #mumma #family #gotosleep #healthandwellbeing #midwife #nurse #gentlesleeptraining #sleepingbaby #sleephelpseverything See more
23.01.2022 . I’ve always wanted to be a Mum. To have that beautiful connection with a little person that depends on me for every little need . We found out we were expecting our little Hazel back in November 2019. If someone had have told me she would be born right in the middle of pandemic - I wouldn’t have believed them. On July 4th 2020 she was born (about a week before restrictions tightened again in Victoria). I remember sitting on the couch when she was... a week old, double pumping and watching Dan Andrews press conference when he announced the tightening restrictions which meant we wouldn’t be able to seen any friends of family for the foreseeable future. I sat there and sobbed . My first 12 weeks as a Mum has been amazing and challenging in so many ways and I’m sure my experience will resonate with other mumma’s reading this . This pandemic has meant I have had 12 weeks of uninterrupted time with Hazel; my husband has been home for the first 12 weeks of her life; I haven’t had to rush to go out, meet people or do much at all & I’ve been able to rest and recover at home. It’s also meant however that my own sister and almost all of our friends, immediate & extended family haven’t met Hazel and didn’t even see my ! Her grandparents were so lucky to meet her in the first couple of weeks after she was born but it’s been weeks and weeks (9 to be exact) since my mum has seen her 1st grandchild. I can’t even imagine how gut wrenching that would be for her - I know it is for me. Pandemic mums and dads are missing more than that though...they’re missing face to face parent group catch ups, meeting friends and family for coffee or having a weekend away somewhere beautiful with their new baby. They’re missing the hands on support from loved ones, being able to hug a friend, debrief face to face about their birth experience, being cooked meals to eat in those first few weeks of being a parent or having someone pop over to give you a break for an hour so you can have a nap . This pandemic has taken so much from new parents but has given us so much as well . To all the pandemic parents and parents to be out there See more
22.01.2022 With Christmas right around the corner (how did that even happen!), I thought it’d be the perfect time to write a post about self care. Christmas holidays is such a wonderful time but can be stressful, busy and overwhelming at times. A lot of you may be getting up to feed or resettle your baby 1 or more times overnight (me included!). Although you may be used to this and are a total rockstar - this will mean you’re a little more tired than your average person. Honestly even ...if you’re not getting up at all overnight, parenting in general is tiring! Be kind to yourself. Rest. Say no to some social events if you need to. Listen to your body. Eat well. Drink plenty of water. Get out for walks and into nature. Take some time to recharge and reset for the new year. You got this parents Image from @positivelypresent
22.01.2022 Have you tried this hold? . I’m often asked by parents for ideas on different strategies to hold/calm baby - so here is one of my fav holds (demonstrates by my girl Hazel! . This back to tummy hold (reverse cradle) can be used for a few reasons!)... . - To hold your baby during awake time so that can look around but you have a hand free if required - To hold hold your baby when they have wind - To hold your baby when they are unsettled (they’re against your body but are facing away from you - which is great for an overstimulated baby needing to wind down) - For rocking/calming for settling for sleep . Hope this is helpful! It’s one of Hazels fav holds! . #sleepconsultant #sleepconsultantmelbourne #letssleep #letssleepconsulting #babysleeping #multiplebabymamas #twins #twinsofinstagram #twinbrothers #mumma #family #gotosleep #healthandwellbeing #midwife #nurse #gentlesleeptraining #sleepingbaby #sleephelpseverything

20.01.2022 How to help your older children adjust to the arrival of their new sibling There is SO much excitement and anticipation around the arrival of a new baby! Even MORE so for their older sibling/s. It is completely normal for your older child to have some behavioral and sleep changes after the arrival of their new sibling. This can include tantrums, requesting dummies or comforters they may have let go of and finding every reason under the sun to keep you going into their room... at bed time and overnight. Top tips for keeping your older child feeling invoked & their sleep on track: Reassure them if they are concerned or disrupted by the new baby crying overnight Return your child to bed straight away overnight if they get out of bed (unless they actually need something essential from you!) Stick to their usual day routine and bed time routine Involve your older child in the care of the new sibling Try and avoid saying ‘no’, ‘be careful’, ‘don’t’ or other phrases that can make your older child feel a bit excluded Instead make an alternate suggestion instead of no I can’t do that right now, I’m feeding hugo - baby hugo would LOVE if you hold his hand and tell him a story while mummy gives him his lunch from @_bornonawednesday

16.01.2022 Recent client review - Isla, 4m old: We worked with jazz for 2 weeks with her email support. Our little girl isla is 4 months old , as she went through her sleep regression and her developments she became very out of wack with her sleep routine and felt we were in a loss of trying to get it back on track! Jazz was able to assess and work our a routine for us with isla . Before we started we had to assist isla to sleep rocking for almost hours!! She would only then stay do...wn a few hours before she was constantly up. On top of this she was a serial cat napper and would not nap more then 40 mins. We felt like we were just fighting a losing battle. However within days and the change of routine , isla can now self settle being put down in her cot awake and calm , she now sleeps through her day naps especially her long lunch nap which she does 2 hours we are now having to go in and wake isla up!!! Along with being overall happy baby being able to identify when she is tired snd keep us as a family all happy and all having the sleep we need!! I could not recommend jazz more, she has helped us more then she knows and has been such an ongoing support for us!! So happy for this family
15.01.2022 It’s very common for parents to delay seeking support with their baby’s sleep. You might not feel like the issue is ‘bad’ enough, you might not be sure what sleep support involves or you might think the issue your baby is experiencing is ‘normal’ and you’ve just got to ride it out . Is your child waking up early? Catnapping? Waking frequently overnight? A challenge to settle at bedtime? Not keen on sleeping in their own cot? Has your child previously slept very well but ha...s recently become unsettled and had challenges sleeping? . . 14.01.2022 How to settle a newborn . I’ve touched on this topic recently but have had lots of questions coming through about newborns so thought I would elaborate . A newborn is a baby aged birth - 12 weeks... Newborns have a short burst of awake time 45 mins - 60 mins & gradually increasing to 90 mins by 12 weeks of age They typically require hands on settling to go calm for sleep or to go to sleep (motion, bouncing, shushing, patting, rocking, feeding) Depending on your sleep goals, it’s ideal to start offering your newborn sleeps in the bassinet or cot from day 1 Start a short wind down routine (2-5 mins) when you see their tired signs and they’ve been awake for 45-90 mins (depending on the age of your newborn) Swaddle your baby and ensure the room is dark, use white noise/rain/waves etc Place them down in the bassinet drowsy but a bit awake and use hands on techniques eg. patting, shushing to help them drift off to sleep Pick up baby after 1-2 mins (listening to their noises - are they calming? Are they escalating their cries?) if unsettled and repeat this process for 10-30 mins If baby is still not going to sleep - pop them in the carrier, pram or on your chest for that nap . These tips will help you teach your little one to slowly develop their own skills to sleep and ensures you are fully responsive to your baby . You’re all doing an amazing job . . from @fenja.elvia . . #sleepconsultant #sleepconsultantmelbourne #letssleep #letssleepconsulting #babysleeping #multiplebabymamas #twins #twinsofinstagram #twinbrothers #mumma #family #gotosleep #healthandwellbeing #midwife #nurse #gentlesleeptraining #sleepingbaby #sleephelpseverything See more
14.01.2022 This often really surprises parents! . Often no actual sleep training methods need to be used with your baby to make a big and positive impact for their sleep! You might have visions of needing to leave your child screaming for hours in order for them to ‘learn to sleep’. This just isn’t the case! . Often discussing some holistic changes to routine, environment, feeding/nutrition and settling techniques make a huge difference and is all that is needed ... . 11.01.2022 Client story: I recently finished up working with this lovely family (it’s always bittersweet finishing up!). Shaan was 2 years 11 months when we commenced the sleep support package. Shaan had been taking 1-2 hours to settle to sleep at bedtime and needing mum or dad in the room. He was waking once or more overnight and often needed mum or dad to stay in the room with him for the rest of the night or until he fell back asleep which could take quite some time. Understandabl...y, his parents were quite exhausted from this cycle each night and reached out for sleep support with me. Within just 10 days, Shaan is now going off to sleep on his own within 10-15 minutes at bedtime and sleeps through until the morning. Everyone is feeling so much more rested and most importantly, mum and dad reflect on the sleep support process positively It’s an amazing feeling working with families and helping busy parents and children get more
11.01.2022 I recently read a comment online that said mothering instinct is a lie (this was part of a review for a popular sleep consulting program). This made me SO incredibly sad, angry and mostly disappointed that this comment was shared on such a public platform. A parents instincts are such an imperative part of being a parent & the cornerstone to how you build connection with your little human . Since becoming a Mama myself in July, my gut has helped me make many decisions around ...how to best care for my little one . If you do some or all of the above to help your baby sleep and it is working for your family - that is totally OKAY! . Parenting is a such a balancing act and requires you to follow your gut instincts + seek information + support along the way . Parents you got this See more
11.01.2022 Babies are noisy little creatures! It is so common for babies to make different cries and noises during sleep, only to fall back asleep again! . If baby has woken up earlier than expected from a nap or is waking more frequently overnight - allow 3-5 minutes and see what they do. Go with your gut here however. You know your baby best and are used to their cries and what they are communicating to you. If you feel it’s appropriate - try this strategy . I’ve often been surprised when overnight my little one Hazel (13 weeks) makes a few noises and soft cries at 12pm for instance, only to wake up to her 4 hours later and realize that she actually fell back asleep on her own

09.01.2022 Hi there! I thought I would tell you a bit about myself . I’m Jazz - the founder of Let’s Sleep. I’m a Mum to my little girl Hazel (10 weeks old!) and live on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria with my husband Alex & our 2 rescue dogs and cat. . I’m a Registered Midwife/Nurse & Maternal and Child Health Nurse with additional training in Infant and Child Sleep. I have been working with women, babies and families for 10+ years in a range of roles. The kick I get out of... helping parents improve their little ones sleep is what drives my passion to be a sleep consultant and infant/child sleep educator. I am passionate about the power of educating families about how little people sleep and seeing how they then use that knowledge to help their child sleep well! . Feel free to ask any sleep questions in the comments (or anything else you want to ask!). If you’de like 1:1 support with your baby’s sleep - I would love to hear from you via email. 09.01.2022 Who can relate? I know I can!! . . . From @pure_little_hearts
09.01.2022 Honestly though! . The LAST thing parents need is to be made to feel guilty or judged for how they’re helping their baby sleep . In those first 3 months of your baby’s life, they typically require more hands on settling to get to sleep and back to sleep throughout the day and night. These hands on techniques might include rocking, patting, feeding, shushing, bouncing, motion, baby wearing or holding your baby... . Depending on your family sleep goals, I encourage parents with newborns to do 2 things: . 1 - Put baby down sleepy and calm but still awake and use hands on techniques if needed to help them drift off to sleep in their sleep environment 2 - Offer them the opportunity to sleep in their bassinet or cot for MOST sleeps in the day and night (consistency will help babies get used to their sleep environment) - try settling for 10-30 minutes and if it’s not happening for that particular nap, that’s OK . These two tips will help your baby slowly learn the skill to get to sleep and go back to sleep on their own & be comfortable and content in their sleep environment . Be kind to yourself. If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or just need a rest from helping your baby to settle - then pop them in the carrier, pram or lay them on your chest for a sleep. Remember you have PLENTY more days to come with your baby and loads of time to work on sleep and settling. It’s a marathon, not a sprint! . #sleepconsultant #sleepconsultantmelbourne #letssleep #letssleepconsulting #babysleeping #multiplebabymamas #twins #twinsofinstagram #twinbrothers #mumma #family #gotosleep #healthandwellbeing #midwife #nurse #gentlesleeptraining #sleepingbaby #sleephelpseverything See more

07.01.2022 Night sleep Educating and empowering parents to understand their baby’s sleep is such a huge part of my role. Knowledge is power! I’ve had lots of night sleep questions lately so here is an information filled post on all things NIGHT SLEEP! ... Babies night sleep is divided into a few stages. Having an understanding of these stages can help you to pinpoint why your baby may be waking at particular times during the night (other than for their normal number of night feeds!). Stage 1: Bedtime. Your baby or child would ideally go off to sleep between 6pm - 7.30pm (when their bodies are naturally primed for sleep). Their melatonin levels (sleepy hormone) are highest and cortisol levels (awake/stress hormone) are lowest at this time, the sun starts to disappear and your baby’s body temp lowers slightly - all of this prepares them for night sleep. Stage 2: If your child wakes 45-60 mins after bedtime, it’s most likely they are overtired or this can be a sign of illness in some cases. Your baby may need some more day sleep, a tweak in their day routine or an earlier bedtime. Stage 3: 9pm to midnight. This chunk of sleep is the most restorative due to being a period of deep REM sleep. Night sleep cycles are 2-4 hours in length. If your baby is waking between 9pm and 10pm, they may have simply woken at the end of sleep cycle rather than waking due to hunger (depending on their age and feeding needs). Sleep before midnight is the most restorative - aim for as much as possible before 12am! Stage 4: Midnight is when your baby comes out of their deepest period of night sleep. It’s common for them to wake here and need a feed due to hunger. Stage 5: Midnight - 4am. Wakes from 12-4am are often due to developmental changes e.g rolling, standing, talking, crawling. Typically the coolest part of the night is 3-4am so your baby may wake here if they are a bit cool! Stage 6: 4am - 7am. Around this time your baby is coming into their lightest period of sleep. Ensure their room is very dark to prevent any sun streaming in and play white noise to drown out birds, people moving about the house etc. Post any questions or thoughts below!
06.01.2022 What do you wish you could change about your little one’s sleep? . Maybe you wish that they could self settle for a nap. Maybe you wish you had more of a routine to your day. Maybe you wish you could move from multiple feeds overnight to just one or two, or even zero. Maybe you wish you could put your baby in their cot for a nap rather than holding them or pushing the pram. Maybe you wish your baby wouldn’t wake at 5am each morning. Maybe you wish they weren’t waking every... 2 hours overnight . Whatever your sleep wish is - its almost always achievable with the right steps in place. 06.01.2022 I thought I would post this handy guide about naps and when you would look at dropping naps as your child grows! Stay tuned...I’ll post a video shortly elaborating on how to drop naps and why it’s important not to drop them too soon! Birth to 3 months (4 to 6 naps)... * From birth to 3 months of age, your newborn baby will have quite unpredictable sleep patterns (completely normal!). Some naps may be long (1-2 hours) and some may be short (30-45 minutes). * Newborn babies require more naps as their awake time is shorter (as little as 45 minutes in the first few weeks up and up to 90 minutes as they get closer to 3 months). 3 to 6 months of age (3 naps) * Around 3 to 4 months of age, babies are typically able to sort their sleep into 3 naps throughout the day more consistently. The middle sleep would ideally be the longest of the day. * These naps would ideally be within the biological sleep windows (when your little one’s body is most primed for sleep) 6 to 9 months of age (2 naps) * Around 6 to 9 months of age your baby will be ready to drop their last shorter nap of the day. * The morning nap and lunch time nap should still remain within the biological sleep window for optimal restful sleep. 15 to 18 months (1 nap) * Around 15 to 18 months of age your child will drop their morning nap. * The remaining long midday nap may need to move a little earlier to prevent them becoming overtired. Bed time may also need to move earlier temporarily as they adjust to their new routine. 2.5 to 3 years (No naps!) * After years of your life revolving around your little ones naps, this is the crazy time when your child has NO nap! * Offering some quiet time in the middle of the day or early afternoon is still important for your child. How do I know my baby is ready to drop a nap? * Fighting naps, or nap resistance * Waking more frequently overnight * Early waking * Bed time ‘fussiness’ or taking longer than usual to fall asleep
05.01.2022 . All the Victorian folks out there - being out and about might seem like a bit of a distant memory at this point. However, we are slowly easing back into a more normal daily life and this means getting out and about with baby (and figuring out napping on the go!) . Planning your baby’s naps around your other commitments can cause a lot of anxiety for parents! The ripple effect of poor sleep during the day can absolutely impact the rest of the day a...nd sleep overnight. It’s so important however to balance your mental health & wellbeing and enjoy getting out and seeing your loved ones! . My top tips for napping on the go! If bubs is due a nap when needing to travel or use the pram - offer a small top up feed to help baby relax Use a breathable muslin wrap or something similar to drape over the car seat or pram to filter some light If your baby is used to white noise/rain/waves for sleep - play that for them when napping on the go Ensure bubs is dressed appropriately and won’t be too cool or warm (consider how many blankets you’re using and how many layers baby is wearing) . Aim to have the bigger sleeps of the day at home where possible (usually the morning and lunch sleep depending on age). However if you need to go out during these times, that’s okay too - try the above strategies to help make the nap as successful as possible! . . @snugglehunnykids @redsbabyaus See more

04.01.2022 Summer pram safety Naps on the go in the pram are super handy and a great way for you to get out of the house! If you’re living in Australia, the warmer weather is approaching. Just like cars, prams can heat up very fast when it’s warm and particularly when in direct sunlight. ... Here are some reminders for pram safety in the heat! All of the below tips are for warmer days * Avoid covering the pram with wraps or blankets while baby is napping in the pram (this reduces airflow and increases temperature inside the pram) * Remember on warm days baby will not need blankets whilst in the pram * Dress baby in clothing appropriate for warmer weather * Be aware that sometimes bubs legs are exposed to the sun whilst in the pram - either cover with a very light wrap or apply sunscreen depending on your babies age * Open any airvents or mesh sections of the pram that increase airflow * Where possible avoid being out with the pram in direct sunlight for prolonged periods (particularly at the hottest times of the day) * Plan pram walks in the morning before the heat sets in where possible * Check on your baby regularly * For hydration on warm days - offer extra milk feeds and water in a sippy cup if over 6 months of age Pram cover from @comfycodesigns Onesie from @kipandco

04.01.2022 The dreaded CAT NAP! . What are they? What causes them? How do you help your baby sleep longer? . A catnap is essentially when a baby sleeps for 1 sleep cycle or less (50 mins or under)... Catnaps can happen for a range of reasons Most commonly they occur around 3-4 months of age when a babies sleep cycles mature and are 45 minutes long typically in the day They can occur during periods of awake times lengthening- if baby is under-tired, they may wake after 1 sleep cycle and struggle to go back to sleep (trial lengthening their awake time slightly over a few days and see what happens) Catnaps are normal for newborns (12 weeks and under) however its ideal for them to have some longer naps as well for a more restorative sleep From 4 months onwards, babies can also catnap if they are dependent on you or a sleep prop to go to sleep (eg feeding, rocking, patting, dummy, motion) Consider the sleep environment (is the room dark? are you using some white noise for the length of the nap?) If your baby is cat napping - consider their age, awake time, how they are going to sleep and the sleep environment as one or all of these things could cause cat naps to occur . . Post any questions below or DM me if you need further support with your baby cat napping! See more
