23.01.2022 Thanks to Leura Garage for giving the garden beds in Leura Mall such a lovely long drink of water.

23.01.2022 Remain vigilant, but take a moment today to celebrate these wonderful fire people. It has just been announced that the Grose Vally Fire is CONTAINED.

19.01.2022 Over the past days our community has continued to be tested by these unprecedented fires. Mount Victoria, Blackh...eath and Bell join Mount Tomah and Mount Wilson in feeing the impacts of fire. As I sit here now I can see the alerts for Blackheath and while I am nearby, my heart is breaking to read them. I have been in community and can tell you that the Blue Mountains spirit shines through, despite the tension and adversity. I have been meeting emergency crews on the ground. They just keep going and that knock-about, cheeky spirit is shining through. Whether it is the fire fighters, the National Parks staff, the Ambos or the Police Officers going door to door in the middle of the night warning people. Or the SES volunteers I saw at Katoomba Fire Control today. The courage and the love of community is palpable. Our council staff, on barricades, fixing RFS vehicles and a range of other important activities. I am so proud of you. A shout out to the Blue Mountains Council workers at our tips, in the heat, in the smoke, helping people clear their blocks. To the staff of Penrith City Council who are working beside them, in our Blue Mountains, thank you. As their mayor said to me, this is what mates do". I have also been deeply moved by the everyday citizens who donate food to those defending our community or who just stand by the roadside and cheer them on. Recovery operations begin as the emergency continues to unfold. I want to thank our staff who are today preparing to support those communities impacted with water, attending to dangerous trees, fuel for the generator in the absence of power. A range of important things that help people move forward. The power company workers who turn up while the ground is still smouldering to re-connect towns impacted by fire, you are there for us too. We are better together. We are stronger together. I know we will see this through. We are all tense. We are worried for our citizens. For the animals and environment. We have a resolve up here. It is special. Christmas may have an underlying tension to it. But the most precious gifts are not under the tree. They are in these everyday stories of courage, compassion and community spirit. NB: If youre making a comment please stay on theme. This is not the place to push a political view etc. Play nice :) Mayor Mark Greenhill 2LT

10.01.2022 The Leura Village Association has made the difficult decision to postpone the Leura Harvest Festival. Now in its seventh year, the Leura Harvest Festival is one of the highlights of the Blue Mountains annual event calendar. In light of current situation, the festival cannot go ahead in May.... We hope to be able to showcase our local makers and regional producers as part of the Leura Village Fair in October. However, continue to keep an eye out for some online activity throughout May. We want to celebrate our backyard gardeners, our pet chooks, our jam-makers and our wonderful community so stay tuned for more ways you can be a part of the festival from the comfort of your own home, studio, kitchen or veggie patch!

06.01.2022 The Leura Village Association, comprising business owners and residents of Leura, has made the difficult decision to cancel this years Leura Village Fair due to be held on the weekend of 10-11 October 2020. The Leura Village Fair, held for the last 37 years, is one of the highlights of the Blue Mountains annual event calendar and comes at a time when Spring is truly evident in the Mountains villages. With the current uncertainties around large-scale public gatherings and wit...h Covid-safe guidelines still emerging and changing, the Committee felt cancellation of the Village Fair in its customary format, involving closure of Leura Mall was the most sensible course of action for this year. However, Leura Village will still be open for business: our retailers and cafes will be ready to welcome visitors and the cherry blossoms will be blooming. So to celebrate Springtime in Leura, and with a strong focus on following the necessary wellbeing precautions, we will be hosting a number of seasonal events and activities throughout September/October. More information on these pop-up events and activities will be available soon. If youd like to be involved or find out more, do get in contact with our Events and Activations Manager Sarah Barron via [email protected] Thank you for your continued support.

05.01.2022 ***DONATE A RESPIRATOR TO A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER*** Over the last few weeks, many people have asked whats the best way we can help volunteer firefighters? ...Here is an excellent opportunity. On Friday 27 Dec, Katoomba/Leura RFS received a donation of 23 breathing respirators from the amazing Ophelia of the group My Sisters Keeper. As a cancer survivor determined to protect volunteer firefighters from toxic smoke, Ophelia has set about crowd funding to buy firefighters much needed respirators and has been personally delivering them to Brigades, as you can see in the photos. Respirators are vitally important in protecting our long term health, and also make a huge difference in us being able to deal with heavy smoke on the fire ground and operate effectively for extended periods of time. You can help Ophelia help volunteer firefighters by donating a respirator. Each respirator costs $90 but youre welcome to donate a smaller amount which will go toward buying one. To donate, please call Allens Industrial Products on 07 32556455 tomorrow (between 9 and 5), Monday 30 Dec, and tell them you would like to buy a respirator for Ophelia to donate to firefighters. I will respost this message again when Allens opens again in the New Year from 3 Jan. Allens will take your payment and then Ophelia will collect the respirators for delivery to other Brigades. Once youve done this, please send a message My Sisters Keeper so she can keep track of whats been donated. We are so grateful for Ophelias hard work and the generosity for My Sisters Keeper. We encourage you to generously support this excellent cause so other volunteer Rural Fire Service Brigades can also receive these vital breathing respirators. Thank you

04.01.2022 Wishing one and all a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

04.01.2022 THIS MORNING, we went for a walk along Narrow Neck, Katoomba. Youll recall that it impacted by the recent fires when the fire passed over it into the Megalong ...Valley. Some parts really took a hit, whilst other parts fared much better and some were untouched. If you go there, you will see blacked trees, but youll also see INCREDIBLE BEAUTY. So take the time and look past the blacked trees and enjoy the views and the rapidly regenerating bush. As we walked, we were joined by 2 very noisy Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos. The Blue Mountains bush is an amazing place to be enjoyed, not avoided.
